REPO TIME AGAIN!!! BANK SAYS SELL THIS 1996 MAZDA MIATA MX5 WITH VERY LOW MILES. THIS CAR IS CLEAN INSIDE AND OUT!!! 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION, FULL LEATHER, SPEAKERS IN SEATS, AM/FM/CD PLAYER, 1.8L 16 VALVE ENGINE. ONLY 110,000 MILES ON THIS CAR, THERE IS A SMALL 1 INCH TEAR IN DRIVERS SEAT, RAG TOP IS IN GOOD CONDITION, TIRES DO HAVE SOME LIFE IN THEM STILL AT 65% TREAD, The 1996 Miata M-Edition was all about style. So the car comes with Starlight Blue Mica Paint, a tan leather interior, special stitching, and unique Enkei wheels. A point on the wheels: Other than the steel wheels of the base model, these are the heaviest ever fitted to a Miata. And look at that body roll! You forget how a stock one handles. It's ridiculous. The M Edition series was developed by Mazda USA’s marketing department in 1994.  It was produced for those interested in a special Miata only available in limited production numbers made during the regular production run for a limited time. It was an attempt by Mazda to standardize a higher level of build, exclusivity and upscale content. The series consisted mostly in the application of exclusive special paint colors, luxury interior features, special wheels and M Edition badges/logos throughout the interior and exterior of each car.  The M Edition series (as produced by Mazda from the factory) does not offer any engine or suspension performance enhancements over the regular series MX-5 Miata nor were they sequentially numbered.  Their VIN numbers are scattered throughout the regular run Miatas. The Mazda Miata M Edition series of vehicles are very desirable and sought after by Miata enthusiasts.  Searching for a low mileage clean M Edition and finding one is to may like finding the ultimate Miata.  Fairly expensive when first introduced, they can now be found priced as a regular used car, particularly if the seller has no idea what an M Edition is.  Further, the well known used car resale value guides seem to somewhat under value what Miatas are actually trading hands for.  Most clean Miatas will usually sell over blue book value, that’s not to say you can’t find one at a bargain price though.  M Editions are not sequentially numbered and their VIN numbers will be scattered throughout the regular run for each year.  A total of 12,470 M Editions were manufactured throughout the 4 year run. The colors and features will make any M Edition stand out at a gathering of Miatas and the clean low mileage ones are harder and harder to find.     The ’96 M is the first in the series to offer M Edition script on the tachometer and rear back of seats.  New black faced MSSS stereo offered with side door tweeters.  This is the only Miata ever offered with a factory installed (actually port installed) alarm/remote system. The ’96 M had the most expensive sticker price of any NA Miata.  The lower body sills are body color painted from the factory. Mazda's next-gen SkyActiv engines will drop spark plugs in favor of high compression

Mon, Jan 16 2017

Homogeneous charge compression ignition, or HCCI, is the black art of internal combustion engines that aims to produce diesel-like fuel efficiency for the cost of gasoline. Although some of its competitors have developed and subsequently given up on the tech, Mazda confirmed that the next-generation of SkyActiv engines will employ HCCI technology, improving fuel economy by 30 percent and at the same time reducing exhaust emissions. According to Nikkei, a new SkyActiv family of engines is set to debut under the hood of the next-gen Mazda3 sometime in 2018 before making its way into other vehicles. In simple terms, an engine that uses HCCI burns the air/fuel mix using pressure instead of with spark plugs, just like a diesel. At 14:1, Mazda's gasoline engines already have some of the highest compression ratios out there, but a move to HCCI means cranking up the compression to 18:1. While the tech sounds relatively straightforward, using HCCI means dealing with a number of side issues. It's one of those "on paper" ideas that compounds problems when put into practice. Heat, revs, and fuel must all be carefully managed as gasoline doesn't burn the same way as diesel. Mazda is mum on details, but the automaker seems confident that the issues have been sorted. If the new engines do indeed make it to market with HCCI, Mazda will have out-engineered GM, Daimler, and Hyundai, all of which have tried and failed to develop HCCI engines in a cost-effective package. With the market moving towards electrification, it's interesting to see Mazda still focusing so heavily on traditional internal combustion gasoline engines. It's an indication of where they see the market heading for the next few years. Although the automaker has been hesitant to move forward with hybrid and electric powertrains, Nikkei also reports that Mazda will begin mass production of EVs in 2019. Related Video:

Mazda files patent applications for inline-six technology, new transmission

Tue, Feb 4 2020

We've known for some time that Mazda is one of the OEMs getting back on the inline-six engine bandwagon, and a report from Japan gives us a glimpse of some of the automaker's plans. Mazda has filed patent applications for both new exhaust components (depicted with an inline-six) and a new eight-speed automatic transmission.  The news comes from a blog called T's Media (fire up Google Translate), which located the new hardware in two separate fillings, one for exhaust system components and one for the new transmission.  Mazda's lineup has been exclusively powered by four-cylinder engines since the demise of the last-generation CX-9, which utilized a 3.7-liter V6 sourced from Ford. Since, Mazda has relied on turbocharging to get more power out of its SkyActiv four-pots, but changes may be coming. Prior reports have indicated that Mazda wants a new, larger engine architecture to power vehicles built on a new, larger platform. This new chassis is expected to accommodate longitudinal, rear-wheel drive powertrains, which could spawn larger crossovers and SUVs. It could also potentially underpin a new rear-wheel drive coupe, if Mazda decides to go that route.  While the inline engine itself is not news, what we're seeing here might actually be hints as to Mazda's approach to the next generation of its SkyActiv engine architecture. Mazda's exhaust patent seems to describe a scalable — perhaps even modular — setup intended to be used with inline and potentially even V-engines.  "Provided is an engine exhaust structure capable of securing exhaust efficiency while reducing the size of the engine by changing the structure of an exhaust port," a translation of the patent application's introduction says. "[T]here has been proposed a technique for collecting exhaust gas discharged from each cylinder inside a cylinder head without using a separate exhaust manifold with the aim of downsizing the engine." In other words, Mazda is looking for ways to make its future engines more compact, and the strategy detailed here is the use of an integrated exhaust manifold, similar to what other automakers (such as Honda and Ford) have utilized on their smaller-displacement turbocharged engines. The sketch above of an inline-six engine with just two exhaust ports illustrates this concept.  The eight-speed transmission, while noteworthy in its own right as Mazda currently relies on aging six-speeds, doesn't seem to offer us anything particularly game-changing.  Related Video:

Mazda zooms into SEMA 2016 with lighter MX-5 Speedster and RF Kuro concepts

Tue, Oct 25 2016

It's almost time for the 2016 SEMA aftermarket show again, if you haven't guessed already by the steady parade of early looks at various show cars. Mazda's MX-5 creations are generally a highlight for us, unapologetic Miata junkies that we are. This year's cars should be just as exciting as last year's, one being a revision of last year's Speedster concept and the other based on the brand new, sexy RF retractable targa top model. Both SEMA MX-5s were designed and built in-house at Mazda's Irvine design studio. This year's Speedster is somehow even lighter than before. Mazda carved 100 pounds out of it, making it a staggering 350 pounds less than a production soft top model. It's also been repainted in a color called "White Ether", which we're imagining looks something like the "Blue Ether" paintjob on last year's highly reflective Speedster minus the blue tint. Mazda will probably never sell a roofless Miata or anything this lightweight, but maybe it should. It looks like it'd be a blast to drive at a road course. And then there's the RF Kuro concept, the first RF-based SEMA show car, which is shown in the teaser above. It doesn't seem terribly extreme, to be honest. It's wearing a matte charcoal paint, which explains the "Kuro" moniker – kuro means "charcoal" in Japanese. A set of 17-inch RAYS forged wheels and MX-5 Cup suspension, and that's about it. Not to knock it; the RF is a sexy looking thing as it sits, and Cup suspension should make it handle even more like a go-kart. Of course, both concepts will be fully revealed at the show next month in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for a dose of concept Miata hotness.Related Video:
