WE BOUGHT THIS GREAT LITTLE CONVERTIBLE NEW IN 1992. WE HAVE AROUND 55000 MILES ON THE SPEEDOMETER AND ENJOYED THE CAR IMMENSLY. BUT WE NOW ARE OLD HAS BEENS, AND IT IS TIME TO SELL THIS WONDERFUL VEHICLE TO A YOUNGER PERSON WHO CAN GET THE FULL ENJOYMENT OUT OF ITS ROUSING PERFORMANCE. THE STICK SHIFT IS A JOY TO DRIVE AND THAT IS ABOUT ALL WE EVER USED IT FOR. THAT IS SHORT DRIVES INTO THE SUMMER SUN AND IT WAS ALWAYS STORED AWAY FOR THE MEAN WINTER WEATHER OF NORTH OHIO. THIS AUTOMOBILE CAN BE A HAZZARD TO DRIVE IN SNOWY AND ICY WEATHER.
YES, IT DOES NEED SOME WORK DONE ON IT TO BRING IT UP TO ITS BEST. AS WE AGED WE TENDED TO LET THINGS GO AND SO THE AUTOMOBILE AS IT SITS IN OUR DRIVEWAY TODAY IS IN NEED OF THE FOLLOWING:
A NEW TOP.
A PAINT JOB
A RADIO REPAIR
WINDOWS THAT ARE ACTIVATED BY PUULING ON A ROPE AND CLOSED BY SIMPLY PUSHING DOWN ON THE WINDOW.
THE ONLY DAMAGE EVER DONE TO THIS CAR WAS A SLIGHT RAMMING FROM A VEHICLE IN THE REAR AND I REPAIRED THIS TO MY SATISFACTION AND POCKETED THE INSURANCE.
THE LAST REPAIR, WHICH I DID MYSELF, WAS REPLACE THE CLUTCH WHICH GAVE OUT A YEAR OR SO AGO.
THE RADIO HAS BEEN REMOVED AS IT BECAME VERY QUESTIONABLE AS TO ITS PERFORMANCE AS THE CAR GREW OLDER. i HAVE THE RADIO IN A BOX IN MY WORKSHOP AND I WOULD THINK IT FIXABLE.
THE ONLY PROBLEM BESIDE THE CLUTCH REPLACEMENT, WAS A SPARK PLUG WIRE PROBLEM WHICH I REPAIRED MYSELF.
I BELIEVE THE AIR CONDITIONER IS NOT WORKING, BUT WOULD GUESS THAT A REFILL OF REFRIGERANT WOULD SOLVE THAT PROBLEM?
THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT VEHICLE AND I FEEL THAT IT HAS ONLY BEEN NOW BROKEN IN PROPERLY, AND WILL GIVE MANY YEARS OF RELIABLE SERVICE.
I MIGHT ADD THAT THE RUBBER IS IN NEW CONDITION AND THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED ONE TIME.

Mazda rotary engine returns in 2020 as an EV range-extender
Tue, Oct 2 2018It's really, truly, finally happening, folks. The rotary engine is coming back. And just as the many rumors, patents, and even a Mazda2 prototype suggested, it will return as a range extender for an electric car. The news comes from an official announcement from Mazda itself. We won't have long to wait, either, as the rotary-supported EV is slated to go on sale in 2020. It will be one of two electric vehicles available, the other being fully electric. Mazda also mentions that the rotary powertrain is small enough to fit "shared packaging layouts." It's a possibility that these two vehicles are variations on the same model, similar to the Hyundai Ioniq and Honda Clarity. Mazda further notes that the rotary engine will also be able to run on liquified petroleum gas, citing the engine's ability to handle gaseous fuels. This has us wondering if Mazda will offer compatibility with other fuels at some point. Hydrogen could be a good choice for California, and Mazda has had a number of hydrogen-powered rotary-engine vehicles in the past. Propane compatibility could be popular in other regions. Mazda didn't say anything else specific about the vehicle besides highlighting the rotary engine's high power output with a small package and smooth operation. It also mentioned that the range-extended car could be used as a source of electricity when the power grid is down. We're sure to learn more as we near the car's 2020 launch date. Related Video:
R&T chases down a burglar in the million-mile Miata
Mon, 04 Aug 2014Is the answer always Mazda Miata? We discussed this in passing on the Autoblog Podcast earlier this week, and most assuredly the answer is "no." For example, the little MX-5 would be a terrible people carrier, and it'd be useless off road. You can't really tow anything of substance with it, either. Still, if push came to shove, it's satisfying to know that the diminutive roadster could eke out a career as a chase vehicle for the police.
That fact was proven when Road & Track editor Chris Cantle did something that he himself recognizes as "stupid." Upon returning home, Cantle discovered a "twenty-something" actively burgling his home. The resulting story is easily one of the more entertaining episodes to come out of the 1990 MX-5's service to the team at R&T and, we're guessing, will be one of the highlights of the Million-Mile Miata challenge.
Be sure to head over to Road & Track for a full retelling of the chase from Cantle, as well as a follow-up on the saga.
Mazda reveals 25th anniversary edition MX-5 Miata alongside next-gen chassis
Thu, 17 Apr 2014Ford may be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Mustang this week, but it's not the only automaker with a sports car icon to fete at this year's New York Auto Show. Mazda is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of the MX-5 Miata with an array of 15 classic models. It's also showing off the chassis for the next MX-5, and unveiling a special 25th Anniversary Edition.
The special edition is based on the retractable hardtop model with either manual or automatic transmission, Bilstein shocks, a metallic red paint job with contrasting black roof and an off-white leather interior. Naturally, special badging can be found inside and out to set it apart from the record 940,000 other MX-5s sold to date, and just 100 examples will find their way to US buyers.
Along with the two-tone special, Mazda is also showing off the new Skyactiv chassis and engine that'll underpin and power the upcoming next-generation MX-5 (as well as an as-yet-to-be-determined Fiat Group roadster if the two parties can work out their differences). With a lower center of gravity that's also closer to the middle of the car, the new chassis promises even better balance and a good couple hundred pounds of weight savings over the outgoing model. Check it all out in the press releases below.
