2020 Mazda CX-30 shows off new appearance package at Tokyo Auto Salon
Fri, Jan 10 2020Following its introduction at the Geneva Motor Show last year, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 has appeared at the Tokyo Auto Salon wearing some new duds. The automaker developed a body kit for the compact crossover that's going on sale in Japan. The complete kit includes a front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser panel, rear spoiler, wheels and mirror caps. The body kit is stylish and subtle. The silver accents help it stand out against the plastic body cladding of the stock CX-30. It also has some faux aluminum "skid plate" sections on the front and rear so that people still recognize it as a crossover, even though it looks lower and sportier. Although the kit has only been announced in Japan for now, we expect it will eventually be available in the U.S. just as the Mazda3 appearance package did. The complete kit is priced at $3,147 at current exchange rates, and it's discounted over the price if you were to buy each part individually. That price could change for the American market if or when it's offered here. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Mazda planning not one but two new crossovers for U.S.
Tue, Feb 12 2019Mazda has already announced plans to unveil a brand new crossover at the Geneva Motor Show, but it turns out there's another one in the pipeline set to satiate the appetites of a crossover-mad U.S. market. Speaking at the Chicago Auto Show, Mazda North America CEO Masahiro Moro told reporters the brand has another model planned for production at the $1.6 billion plant under construction with joint-venture partner Toyota in Huntsville, Ala. It'll be "a new crossover SUV which is exclusively designed for the North American market," Automotive News quoted Moro as saying. While it'll be a different product from the one debuting next month in Geneva, the two vehicles will share some architecture. The company is reportedly still finalizing the concept for it. Currently, Mazda sells three crossovers in the U.S.: the subcompact CX-3, the compact CX-5 and the larger CX-9. Together, the three vehicles, which constitute half of the tiny automaker's vehicle lineup, posted sales of 195,778 for 2018, up 15.8 percent from 2017. They accounted for nearly two-thirds of the brand's total vehicle sales of 300,325. Production is expected to start at the new Alabama plant in mid-2021, Moro said, and add capacity for 150,000 units of crossovers. The plant is expected to employ up to 4,000 workers with a total capacity of 300,000 vehicles a year. Toyota plans to build the Corolla there alongside Mazda's crossovers. Mazda last week released the teaser pic shown above of its forthcoming new crossover headed for Geneva. It could be the next and slightly larger version of the CX-3, which will use the Skyactiv Vehicle Architecture that also supports the new Mazda3. Mazda6 Skyactiv-D Racecar ready to bring diesel to Grand-Am
Tue, 15 Jan 2013It may not be quite as radical as some of the company's past rotary racers, but the new Mazda6 Skyactiv-D racecar does have a notable powertrain underhood: the automaker's brand-new clean diesel four-cylinder engine.
Three of these new diesel-powered Mazda6 racers will take to the track in the Grand-Am GX class of the upcoming 2013 Rolex 24 at Daytona on January 26, with five drivers on each team. The car you see above, number 70, is sponsored by Mazda's longtime motorsports partner, SpeedSource.
