Single owner yellow 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder for sale. This is an amazing car, and it is only being sold because we have run out of room. This car has always been garage kept, very well treated, serviced regularly (synthetic oil). This convertible is one of the most fun 2 door convertibles ever made, and was one of the first non-exotic cars with a sequential manual gearbox. So it has all the benefits of a manual car, but shifts without a clutch. You can use the gear lever to shift up/down or use the shift controls on the steering wheel for speed.

I also added a small turbo charger (6 PSI) to this car early on which adds just that little bit of extra kick to the engine. The engine appears to have been designed to handle more power, but probably never sold enough for TRD to add the turbo. The turbo doesn't impact fuel efficiency until you put your foot down, and then it spins up quickly and gives that bit of extra power. Only down side is that you have to use premium fuel. But the high quality turbo came with an O'Grady engine management computer, which can be tuned further if you'd like (I left it at the default safe settings). The modifications include an improved air filter, and the turbo really gives the exhaust an even better note.

2003 was the year the car received both functional and cosmetic changes. The chassis was stiffened for better handling, and the lights and interiors received cosmetic rework. Also the SMT was changed from 5 to 6 gears. Never have had any accidents or issues with this car, always serviced by Toyota (even after turbo kit). The clutch for SMT was replaced around 30K as part of the turbo addition work.

If you have ever driven an MR2 Spyder you know there is nothing quite like it (unless you have a Lotus Elise), and with the extra pick up it really becomes the car it always wanted to be. A good handling car, very comfortable for daily driving, yet pretty sharp in handling. Currently has performance tires (rather than all season), but this car was never driven in the late fall and winter months (we put in away in the garage for the winter every year from Nov to April or so). Really can't recommend this car for driving in snow. But this car has an amazing heater, you can easily drive with the top down and heat on even when weather outside is around 40 degrees. With windows up the inside wind noise and turbulance is pretty low.

The manual convertible top is in great shape, works very well. The interior is in very good shape, just a small amount of age, but nothing like what you'd expect for a 10 year old car. The exterior paint is in very good shape, a few small dings and chips, but nothing major. The paint and clearcoat are in very good shape as they were not exposed much to the elements and the car always has been polished. Includes original manuals and tools.

Ask any questions you may have before bidding, happy to answer. If you want to buy the car with buy it now and want to see it before contact me to make arrangements.

Watch Maserati prep this Quattroporte for Geneva by hammering on its sheetmetal

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

There are untold amounts of primping and set up that goes on in the days leading up to an international auto show. Of course, there are exhibits to erect, lights to hang and scripts to rehearse. There are also cars to prep. Usually the latter involves little more than removing finger prints and dusting, but in the case of Maserati the day before the Geneva Motor Show press days, the process apparently includes banging on the sheetmetal of one of your prized showcars like a crazed woodpecker.
We're not sure what caused a surface irregularity in the door skin of this 2014 Quattroporte - perhaps shipping damage - but it was interesting (and mildly painful) to watch, and hear, a show prepper attempt to repair this six-figure sedan with what looks like a jeweler's hammer, high-intensity light and soft cloth.
That'll buff right out.

2014 Monterey Motorsports Reunion is a symphony of classic racers

Mon, Aug 18 2014

With about 550 classic racecars lapping Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca over the course of the weekend, the Monterey Motorsports Reunion might be one of the largest vintage racing events in the country, maybe even the world. It was certainly one of the highlights of the lavish Monterey festivities last weekend. This year's featured marque was Maserati, which was celebrating its 100th anniversary, and plenty of trident logos could be found on track, ranging from the 250F grand prix car to some of the company's later sports cars. Of course, with 15 groups of classic racers, there was basically something for any motorsports fan. Among the highlights were the Trans-Am race that brought together rumbling hunks of American muscle to jostle for position on track. There was also a fantastic class from the '50s and '60s with Ferraris, Corvettes and even a Volvo P1800 and Toyota S800 racing together. Watching these iconic racers back on track at full pace was just a revelation to see, smell and hear. There were too many fantastic cars to list them all, but feel free to check out Autoblog's huge gallery from Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to see if you spot your favorite racecars of yesteryear. Maserati MC20 Cabrio is a 621-horsepower Italian hair dryer

Tue, Dec 21 2021

Winter is officially here, but Maserati is already looking forward to warmer temperatures and more driving-friendly weather. It released the first official photos of the MC20 Cabrio, which is exactly what it sounds like: a convertible version of the recently-launched MC20 coupe. Maserati likes having fun with the camouflage it uses to cover its pre-production prototypes, it notably dedicated an early MC20 test mule to Stirling Moss, and it designed a cloud-themed wrap specifically for the MC20 Cabrio. Unfortunately, whether it features clouds or swirls, the camouflage does an excellent job of hiding key details and the photos ask more questions than they answer. For example, we know that this is a convertible but there's no word yet on whether it will have a power-folding cloth soft top or if it will be fitted with a removable roof panel. Roof aside, the Cabrio looks nearly identical to the coupe, which isn't a bad thing; we think the MC20 is one of the best-looking cars that Maserati has released, and its exterior design will influence other additions to the company's range, including the Grecale crossover. Both the coupe and the convertible are built around the same carbon fiber monocoque, and we're guessing that there won't be major drivetrain differences between the two body styles. Power for the Cabrio will come from a mid-mounted, 3.0-liter V6 that's twin-turbocharged to develop 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Called Nettuno, it spins the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. More details about the Maserati MC20 Cabrio will emerge in the coming months. Sales should start for the 2023 model year. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
