**please note that this auction is the ONLY LEGITIMATE ONLINE ADVERTISEMENT FOR MY CAR RIGHT NOW. The car is as I have described it below and is securely under lock and key in my private storage unit in Omaha. If you are interested in this car, shoot me a message and I'm happy to communicate directly. ***

Manufactured in Hethel on June 16, 1993, this pampered Esprit only has 26.6K miles. It is an extremely rare "Federal 93.5" variant, which means that it has certain components from the later S4 (interior and access improvements). There were only 62 of these particular Esprits built, from #245 to #306. This one (#303) is the fourth from the final built. There were only 21 Calypso Red cars in the world, 17 of which had this color leather specified.

This one has lead a pampered life. I would be surprised if there are any better examples than this one left anywhere.

I am the fourth owner of the car having purchased the car last summer from an impeccable local executive. It is in nearly flawless cosmetic condition, with only a small number of insignificant cosmetic issues (thanks to the premium but thin leather, the seat bolster on the drivers side is slightly fading). It has never been abused, tracked, or messed with. It is tight and shifts and drives flawlessly. Thanks to the leather (and the new Lloyd mats - with red edging) the car smells like new.

I have the books and records, keys, certificate of provenance, car fax, and a copy of the original window sticker. Also includes the Freescan tool (and cable) as well as the factory workshop manual. The car has an improved chip (the Red Race chip) from Lotus Esprit World. The belt was changed at 12K (and has been given a clean bill of health).

I had a new Sony head unit professionally installed (but not speakers - no cutting whatsoever) that enables you to plug your iphone or ipod into the dash and listen to the music directly. It also has a battery tender. I also bought a Momo shift knob but ultimately determined that, given how rare the car is, I wanted to respect the stock factory setup (even though, for the moment, it is no longer "stylish" to have small rims and a quiet exhaust). That knob is included in its box.

When I bought the car, my first Esprit, I had concerns/low expectations about it's overall ‘personality’. I have been pleasantly surprised with how easy to live with and quite trustworthy the car is. It is a simple, thinly-veiled race car. The interior is consequently tight and purposeful. If you are built like a race car driver, you will be fine. I am 6'1" and it fits like a tailored suit.

The only issues I have had with it: last November the clutch master cylinder failed and was easily and inexpensively replaced by my local mechanic (the bigger hassle was figuring out how to safely load the car onto a flatbed). At the time I also had all fluids flushed. Also, a leaky axle seal was replaced.

It's a seriously beautiful car that I didn't intend to sell. I'm only selling due to a job transfer to Scottsdale that requires me to raise funds for a down payment on a house. (I am also selling my 928S4). Given the capabilities of this car, well-taken care of Esprits are an amazing value. A PPI is certainly welcome - this car will stand up to scrutiny.

Serious inquiries only, please. No scams or shenanigans.

Cheers!

Lotus Emeya 'hyper-GT' teased before September 7 debut

Wed, Aug 30 2023

The Lotus Type 130 became the battery-electric, 1,972-horsepower Evija coupe. After an ICE diversion for the Type 131 to become the Emira, the Type 132 became the battery-electric Eletre "hyper-SUV." The Type 133 four-door is nearly upon us, and we now know its name will be the Emeya. This corrects the error of thinking the sedan will be called the Envya, based on Lotus filing to trademark that name. A brief Emeya teaser for the "hyper-GT" before a debut September 7 announces a challenger to EVs like the Porsche Taycan, spicier variants of the Lucid Air, the Tesla Model S Plaid, and less obviously, the Polestar 5 from the also-Geely-owned sibling brand.  Naturally, the teaser offers just a small taste of what's ahead. We see a quartet of thin, hockey-stick LED headlights, finally exposed after Lotus hid the upper lights behind camouflage on prototypes. There's a full-width LED light bar in back, underneath the active spoiler at the base of the rear window. And a brief moment 18 seconds into the video shows a large front brake caliper in yellow, painted with the automaker's name and the words "Carbon Ceramic."    The Emeya will be based on the same internal package as the Eletre. If the sedan gets two output ratings like the SUV, the template indicates baseline performance from a dual-motor powertrain of around 595 or 893 horsepower, and battery packs of either 92 kWh or 120. European range estimates for the SUV come in at 373 miles for the less powerful S trim, 304 miles for the stouter R. With the sedan having less of a battle to fight against the wind, we'd expect those spec-sheet numbers to improve. Practical use could tell a different story, engineers saying they tuned the Emeya to be a driver's car and benchmarked the Taycan. The feature list should include an 800-volt architecture and fast charging up to 350 kW, all-wheel drive, rear-wheel steering, active roll control, and the Eletre's active front intake shutters. Figured to be less than two inches longer than a Taycan, spy shots from last year showed the same minimalist driving space as the Eletre, but a dedicated four-seat interior. That extended center console could have been part of an option package, though. The SUV isn't making it to the U.S. until next year. We figure the sedan should arrive here afterward, likely for the 2025 model year. We'll know more on September 7.  Video Green Lotus Electric Future Vehicles Luxury Performance Sedan

Coca-Cola returning to F1 with Lotus sponsorship [w/videos]

Sat, 24 Nov 2012

Even before Red Bull Racing became a record-breaking three-time Constructor's Champion in Formula One, it has dominated conversations both as a team and as an energy drink. After seven years of "Red Bull this" and "Red Bull that," Coca-Cola is reportedly ready to jump into the F1 fray with its Sweden-based energy drink Burn.
Rumors had placed Coca-Cola's entry with McLaren F1, but it's actually Lotus that has secured the deal. We have no idea what the sponsorship will look like, but the website for Burn says that "We [intend] to foster that creativity by incorporating art and music in a way that will break the conventions of traditional F1 sponsorship," Lotus F1 team principal Eric Boullier adding "We are excited to partner with burn to build a new and innovative model for sponsorships that will combine experiences, content creation and social media..."
Since most - including this writer - have no idea what Burn is, we've included a couple of Burn commercial spots to help get us up to speed, which you'll find below. The 2012 season hasn't even ended, and we're already looking forward to 2013...

Born-again Lotus Esprit will be a hybrid in more ways than one

Mon, Mar 16 2020

Volvo parent company Geely is helping Lotus end its drought of new products. The storied British company is allegedly developing a mid-engined hybrid coupe it will position as a spiritual successor to the Esprit. The yet-unnamed model will slot above the existing Evora as a more usable and more refined alternative, according to sources who spoke to Autocar. It will ride on a modified Evora platform, but the two cars won't look anything alike; the upcoming hybrid will liberally borrow styling cues from the electric Evija hypercar.  The planned gasoline-electric powertrain will make the coupe a hybrid in more ways than one. The space directly behind the two-seater cabin will be occupied by a V6 sourced from the Toyota parts bin, and the electrified portion of the system will consist mainly of components provided by Volvo. An output over the 500-horsepower mark is likely, but more specific technical specifications remain guarded. What's nearly certain is that the Lotus engineering team will go to significant lengths to offset the weight added by the lithium-ion battery pack. Insiders described the coupe as a stop-gap between the current-generation Lotus models, including the Elise still sold in many global markets, and an array of upcoming sports cars that will ride on a new platform. Another one of the company's future models is an SUV — its first — built on Volvo bones and aimed at the Porsche Macan.  Lotus will introduce its mid-engined coupe during the first half of 2021, still according to Autocar, and sales will begin shortly after. It's too early to tell whether the model will be sold in the United States, but the company has previously indicated it wants to broaden its foothold in our market in order to grow, so we'd bet on seeing it here. This isn't the first time Lotus has tried to reboot the Esprit. In 2010, under the leadership of Dany Bahar, the company took the Paris auto show by storm when it unveiled five close-to-production concept cars including one that previewed a modern-day Esprit. The project was far too ambitious and none of the models shown in the French capital made it to production. In 2012, Lotus vehemently refuted rumors claiming it had canceled the Esprit, which was penciled-in for a 2013 launch, but hindsight is 20/20. Time will tell if two's the charm.
