The Esprit is a 2002 Twin Turbo V8 with ~14922 miles on it. It is a 25th Anniversary Edition model. The car is paint code B92 silver metallic over black leather interior. The stitching for the leather is a silvery/white.

This Esprit is in excellent cosmetic condition both in an out. Some photos may have a pink or purplish tinge to them at the edges, it's the camera. All photos except the south of the border are recent. There is no damage or cracking to the lower front spoiler at all because great care is used when out driving. The car is 100% original as it comes from the factory with no modifications.

The exterior paint does not have any cracking or scratches. I personally detailed the vehicle using my supply of products and porter cable earlier in the summer. All rubber trim and gaskets are in excellent condition with no tears.

The interior of the Esprit does not have any tears and is still as supple and clean as day 1 from the factory.
All carpets are in an excellent non-faded condition. The interior is 100% original. I cautiously enter and exit the vehicle each time I drive it so I do not wear out the bolster and educate passengers to try and do the same. I use Leatherique rejuvinator and prestine clean products on the entire interior to ensure the leather was well fed and continued to be supple.

The transmission shifts smooth and shifter feel is quite lovely. The engine sounds fantastic. This is a pristine cosmetic condition car but has not sat in a garage which is probably worse for these cars. They need to be used to stay fresh.
The car has not swapped hands through multiple owners or dealerships every couple of months. It is automobile enthusiast owned since 2008.

Both the glass and silver tops are included with the sale. I also have the air deflector which can be installed at the roof mounting positions for open top driving. (See photo)

The car is not driven in the rain or foul weather. It is only used on sunshine days. Stored in a heated garage during the winter months with a battery tender.

The service history during my ownership is as follows:

Purchased the car in October of 2008

  • Because I live in central NY, it was then time to put the car away in our heated garage for winter storage.
Spring of 2009
  • Synthetic oil and filter change using an Esprit filter from JAE
2010
  • Timing belt replacement completed under Lotus Warranty
  • New auxiliary belt
  • New knock sensor
  • ECM was found to not have the latest reflash stickers so it was sent out to Lotus Cars USA for proper reprogramming and then reinstalled
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
2011
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
2012
  • Drove the car 250 miles to Lotus dealership for service ($2300)
  • "A" service for Esprit V8
  • Synthetic oil and filter change
  • Brake fluid flush and refill
  • Coolant flush and refill
  • Transmission fluid flush and refill
  • Clutch was said to still be in very good condition
  • Diagnosis found the HVAC valve stepper motor under the passenger side dash to be faulty and not properly directing air flow for use in heating the interior. It was confirmed coolant does get to the heater matrix correctly it just is not being directed. I was told it takes 3-4 weeks for the part to come in but I wanted to enjoy the car for the summer and it is a fair weather vehicle anyway.
  • Lower control arm bushings were replaced
  • Fuel filler neck seal replaced (I found the fuel neck grommet to be torn so I wanted it replaced)
  • Car was noted as being very finely detailed
2013
  • I may complete an oil and filter change before winter storage.
I hope the photos capture the vehicle condition and can take additional photos per requests.

Mileage on the Esprit will increase as the car is still driven to work every now and then. When the snow falls the car is in the garage until the spring and roads are clean.

Please ask any questions you may have and do not bid unless you are fully prepared to purchase the vehicle.
A non-refundable $100 deposit is due within 48 hours of winning bid via paypal. Balance is due in full via certified bank or cashiers check within 7 days.

Buyer arranges vehicle pick-up by an insured shipping company for the continental United States, or local pick-up once funds are 100% cleared. Title will then be signed over to the new owner and sent via certified mail or handed over if buyer chooses to personally pick-up vehicle locally.

If your eBay feedback score is below 5 points or 95% positive please call or email me before bidding.

Zero or low feedback bidders will be canceled.

Lotus Elise returning to US in 2020

Mon, Aug 3 2015

If you've been hoping to get your hands on a new Lotus Elise, we've got mixed news for you. The good news is that Lotus will bring the Elise back to the US market. The bad news is that it won't happen before 2020. Lotus was forced to withdraw the model (along with the Exige) from the US market in 2011 after it no longer complied with US safety regulations and its temporary exemptions expired. Lotus first launched the Elise in 1996 when the company was still owned by former Bugatti chief Romano Artioli. It rolled out the current Series 2 model in 2001, and brought it to America for the first time in 2004. The larger Evora faced similar issues, and was modified in the form of the new Evora 400 that now meets US regulations. Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales tells Automotive News that doing the same with the Elise would be unfeasible. "We'd need smart airbags, plus side airbags and to change the whole front crash structure. It would add 100kg," or 220 pounds, said Gales. While modifying the current Elise would be prohibitive, the next version is being designed to meet American standards. That won't happen before 2020. In the meantime, Lotus continues to sell a small number of certain variants of the Elise and Exige for use exclusively on tracks. F1 just got a whole lot quieter, and some people are really unhappy about it

Tue, Mar 18 2014

The scene is the front straight of the Albert Park Circuit at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, and what you see on track on either side of the gentleman wearing the orange hat is a Mercedes AMG Petronas being followed by a Lotus. The first major clue, as should be obvious by the nose of the Mercedes, is that this scene was captured last year. The other major clue in the photo is the gentleman in the orange hat: he's wearing earmuffs to silence the noise. We count at least four people wearing them, and that's before the camera pans. Some F1 fans have been pleased with the sound of the new 1.6-liter V6 engines, but it appears that the majority are not; the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix are threatening to sue because of a "lack of sexiness," and F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone has declared he was "horrified by the lack of [noise]." YouTube user krookzeh has posted a video comparing last year's 2.4-liter V8 cars on the first lap at Albert Park with the new turbo V6 cars on the first lap this year. You can compare the sounds and the number of earmuffs in the short clip below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. James Bond Lotus Esprit submarine car headed to auction [w/video]

Fri, 28 Jun 2013

We've covered many cars from the movies and TV that have made their way to auction (the original Batmobile, good old General Lee and even Bond's iconic Aston Martin DB5), but this one ranks up there among the rarest and coolest. RM Auctions has just announced that the Lotus Esprit submarine car used in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me has been added to the docket for its upcoming auction in London, September 8-9.
Of course, there are dozens of Bond cars floating around out there in collections, but none as unique as this Lotus, which ended a chase scene in the movie by taking a long walk off a short pier and transforming itself into a submersible. Since CGI was a meaningless collection of letters back then, the producers of the film actually built a fully functional Lotus Esprit submarine for the shoot. They hired Perry Oceangraphic in Florida to turn one of their six Esprit body shells into a fully functioning submarine, and former US Navy Seal Don Griffin was tapped for piloting duties. RM Auctions claims the Esprit submarine cost over $100,000 to build at the time, which is about $400,000 in today's dollars.
The submarine car comes with a incredible story, too. After filming in the '70s, it was shipped to Long Island, NY where it was kept in a storage unit that was paid in advance for ten years. When the storage contract ended in 1989 and no one claimed the contents, they were sold off in a blind auction to an area couple who had no idea what they were getting. The car has been shown occasionally in the years since, but its value remained purely speculative, until now. To date, the most valuable Bond car we know of is the original Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldfinger and Thunderball that sold for $4.6 million in 2010, but when the gavel falls at RM Auctions' London sale in September, we'll find out if the car nicknamed "Wet Nellie" on set can beat it.
