Overview
The 2003 Lotus Esprit V8 is a RWD 2dr coupe powered by a twin-turbo charged 3.5 liter all-aluminum engine producing 350hp. This example has a Black exterior and Raffia leather interior. It is one of two cars produced with this combination. There are 33,250 miles on the car. There are Michelin Super Sport tires (245/40 ZR17 & 285/35 ZR18) with less than 100 miles recently fitted to the car. The original glass roof is included, as well as the color-matched painted roof. All original keys are included.

Condition
The car is all original, except for the Lotus Elise steering wheel upgrade and modern Pioneer stereo head unit and plastic front spoiler lips. The original carbon fiber “sharp” lips and the OEM rubber lips are included, but not currently installed. Mechanically, the car is in excellent condition, as you would expect for a car with such low milage. Visually, the car is in very good condition with a bit of wear on the corners of the painted roof and the metal door sills and a few minor scrapes on the plastic front bumper lips and a couple of rock chips on the hood/facia.

Ownership history
The car was most recently purchased by my father in January of 2013. He re-imported it back into the US after purchasing it from an owner in Ottawa Canada. He installed the Elise steering wheel, OEM OZ Novas and a new OEM cat-back exhaust. The canadian owner kept good paper records for the car and had it professionally serviced from 22k to 31k miles. The owners prior to 2011 have services recorded in Carfax at the recommended intervals.

Accessories
  • Included in this sale are a few accessories and documentation. Photos of these items can be found here and here.
  • The original owners manual and original brochures included with the purchase of the car
  • An author-signed copy (14th of 250) of “The Story So Far”
  • A copy of Lotus Esprit, The official Story
  • Service manuals on CD
  • Official certificate of provenance from the company archivist
  • All paper documents from 2011 onwards
  • The original glass roof
  • Carbon fiber front spoiler lips
Personal testament and driving impressions
I’m selling this car as a consequence of my father’s unexpected death in July of this year. I am the current titled owner. As fantastic and extraordinary as I think this car is, it just doesn’t make sense for me to own it. I’m not the person who can drive and enjoy the car to it’s fullest.

In the few miles that I have driven the car, I have found it to be an incredible, visceral experience. This is a car that excites all the senses.

The exhaust note is superb and something that you can really only get with a mid-mounted V8 and short pipes. When the windows are down, the blow-off valves can be a bit startling, but with both turbochargers mounted less than a foot from your head, you have a keen understanding of what they are doing at any one time. Rolling up the windows quiets most all turbo sound from within the cabin. I find the stereo in this car to be completely worthless. It’s a fantastic and modern unit with Bluetooth, USB and great controls, but I rarely find the desire to listen to it, given the symphony of noises that the engine and exhaust emit.

The car simply handles like it’s on rails. It is so low and exhibits virtually no body roll. I have not found the limit of adhesion with this car and won’t advise anyone else to attempt it unless you’re autocrossing or on a track. With a suspension this geared toward performance, you’re going to notice which roads are crap and which ones are smooth.

Turbo lag is noticeable but the onset of power after 3k RPM is manageable. It feels a bit like lighting the candle on a solid fuel booster, but the power can be easily modulated once you get used to the timing of when it really starts to build.

You can listen to the idle exhaust note of the car here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=GEtWbar-5L0

Lotus announces Exige V6 Cup racer

Mon, 20 Aug 2012

The Lotus Exige is once of the most focused race cars that you can purchase on the market today, but for those individuals who desire to track the mid-engined racer, Lotus has released its latest no-frills, all-go racecar: the Exige V6 Cup.
The Exige Cup features a supercharged 3.5-liter V6 making 346 horsepower, enabling the 2,380-pound race car to get from zero to 62 mph in just 3.8 seconds. Power is put to the road with the help of Lotus Dynamic Performance Management, which allows for Touring, Sport and Race settings for the engine.
The Exige V6 Cup also features revised aerodynamics in the front fascia and rear diffuser, and it rides on a fully adjustable suspension that reaches the road with special wheels wrapped in Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo tires.

F1 just got a whole lot quieter, and some people are really unhappy about it

Tue, Mar 18 2014

The scene is the front straight of the Albert Park Circuit at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix, and what you see on track on either side of the gentleman wearing the orange hat is a Mercedes AMG Petronas being followed by a Lotus. The first major clue, as should be obvious by the nose of the Mercedes, is that this scene was captured last year. The other major clue in the photo is the gentleman in the orange hat: he's wearing earmuffs to silence the noise. We count at least four people wearing them, and that's before the camera pans. Some F1 fans have been pleased with the sound of the new 1.6-liter V6 engines, but it appears that the majority are not; the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix are threatening to sue because of a "lack of sexiness," and F1 impresario Bernie Ecclestone has declared he was "horrified by the lack of [noise]." YouTube user krookzeh has posted a video comparing last year's 2.4-liter V8 cars on the first lap at Albert Park with the new turbo V6 cars on the first lap this year. You can compare the sounds and the number of earmuffs in the short clip below. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Leaked patent images show forthcoming Lotus SUV

Sun, Oct 29 2017

Upon discovering leaked patent images of a Lotus SUV, the proper response is, "It's about time." Not because we've been insomniac with anticipation of a people-hauler from Hethel, but because we've had at least three years to prepare. Make that ten years if you start the clock from when Lotus blitzed the 2006 Paris Motor Show with the seven-seat APX concept in 2006. The APX first brandished the company's Versatile Vehicle Architecture (VVA). An evolution of that VVA - which can withstand a 3,520-pound curb weight - still supports the Evora. In 2015, when Malaysian carmaker Proton owned Lotus, Lotus CEO Mark Gales announced an SUV already in development that would be "the fastest and most agile" of its kind, and target the Porsche Macan. Now, with a new owner, better sales, and much bigger profits, we get a clearer view of what this slow-cooked, swoopy Lotus van might bring. The front clip, center roof channel, what look like bulging rear wheel arches, and the taillight treatment establish Lotus ties. The side view stands as notable for its rear window treatment and high-altitude fuel filler cap, both design elements echoing the 1974 Lotus Elite and foreshadowed by Gales two years ago. Tech rumors posit a Toyota-sourced four-cylinder engine and a 1,600-kilogram curb weight objective. That's 3,520 pounds in US speak, yet with a new car range in the works and more Geely-funded tools to choose from, the SUV won't use the aged Versatile Vehicle Architecture. If Lotus succeeds at the scales, the SUV would subtract roughly 1,000 pounds from a Porsche Macan. As Gales told Top Gear earlier this month, "[W]hat an Evora is to a 911 our SUV needs to be to a Cayenne." Intended for global export, Lotus plans to manufacture the SUV in China, and we're likely four years away from an on-sale date. Although we're promised the family offering will handle "like nothing else," it won't be a sports car, and only Lotus sports cars are welcome at Hethel. Related Video:
