Turbo was rebuilt at 67,000 by magestic turbo.
New custom made carpet was intalled a year or so ago, perfect. New headliner was installed at the same time.(a normal espirt problem, sorted!) New leather below front windsheild installed also.(a normal esprit problem, sorted!) The interior work was done by a guy that has done cars in Hot Rod ect.(He is the best, period) The engine runs as it should, gears all shift smooth and reverse works as it should.(you have to pull up on the shifter for reverse!) The air conditioner has never worked, needs recharging im sure. It has 70,000 original miles,I have only put 3,000 since ive owned the car. The owners manual has the orignal service documents from long beach california stamped by the dealership,I'll include pictures of that.(very cool!) I also include parts manual and service manual, very expensive if purchased separately. Besides the air conditioner, the relay for the bright lights doesnt work, front headlights only work on dim.(You have to get that relay from England,I'll include the guys in Atlanta,GA phone number, they can get it. This car drives straight and perfect. The turbo is strong and correct, but I stay out of it and always have, this thing has been babied, and I have continued that tradition. The seats are way above average for this year model. This is the last true lotus,GMC bought lotus in 1989 and promptly put a trans-am steering wheel in the cars, really a ugly move, but they had to have an air bag I guess. The original MOMO is so nice, one of the nicest things about driving the car. As far as bang for the buck, this thing has been reliable and a joy to own. I just need an every day driver for now,and I will use this sale for that purpose. THANKS FOR LOOKING,I HATE TO SEE THIS ONE GO! |

This is how ground effects work in a nutshell
Wed, Mar 30 2016There are two ways to generate downforce. One is with all manner of wings and spoilers on the surface of the vehicle. The other is with ground effects. One you can clearly see, the other remains something of a hidden mystery. Fortunately, the good folks at Lotus and Goodwood are here to dumb it down for us non-engineer types. It's called Bernoulli's Principle, named after Swiss physicist Daniel Bernoulli who literally wrote the book on the subject way back in the 1700s. Countless engineers have spent their careers focused on its study and application, but the crux of the matter is that, as the speed of air (or other "fluid") increases, pressure decreases. Play with the air's increasing speed and decreasing pressure just right and you can generate downforce underneath the body of a car without significantly increasing drag as you would with surface spoilers. For evidence of how Bernoulli's Principle applies in practical terms, just look at the last Ferrari to pack a turbocharged V8 in the middle and the latest one. The F40 had a giant wing on the back, where the 488 GTB has none. But because the 488 uses underbody aerodynamics (or "ground effects"), it generates significantly more downforce than the winged F40 ever could, and at lower speeds. Ferrari, however, was not the first outfit to harness the power of ground effects. Lotus did with the legendary 79 that Mario Andretti drove to the world championship back in 1978. That was the genius of Colin Chapman, and to explain how it all works in layman's terms, our friends over at Goodwood Road & Racing brought in Colin's son Clive Chapman, head of Classic Team Lotus, to put together the video above. Lotus Exige V6 Cup takes extreme to the extreme
Mon, 14 Jul 2014What separates a road car from a race car? You're looking at it. It's the Lotus Exige V6 Cup, a model based on what is already one of the most hardcore performance machines on the road, albeit upgraded to an even harder-core spec. It's a good 130 pounds lighter than the Exige S (a vehicle which didn't have much flab to trim in the first place) and can hit 60 in under four seconds. With the notably exception of certain versions of the Porsche 911, there aren't a lot of six-cylinder cars that can claim that kind of performance.
In fact, the Exige V6 Cup is so close to race spec that it's already eligible for a number of racing series. Just bolt in the removable FIA-certified roll cage, maybe swap on some slick tires and you're good to go. Then you can drive it home again when you're done, just like in sports car racing's heyday. But don't take our word for it: the team over at XCar took the V6 Cup to the UK's Goodwood circuit to see how it compared to the Exige S it recently drove, and you can view the stirring results in the video below.
Aston Martin and Lotus each issue recalls
Sun, 14 Oct 2012A pair of head-turning high performance cars are catching some attention off a different kind, in the form of safety recalls. Aston Martin and Lotus have issued recalls for the V12 Vantage Coupe and Evora, respectively.
Aston Martin's affects 169 examples of the 2009-2012 V12 Vantage Coupe. It concerns the tire-pressure monitoring system, and is less a malfunction than it is a compliance issue. The TPMS does not alert the driver until the front tire is more than 25 percent below the recommended cold tire pressure. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138 states that the alarm must sound when tire pressure is "equal to or less than either the pressure 25 percent below" the recommended cold inflation pressure. To address the issue, Aston Martin will notify owners and reprogram the software, free of charge.
As for Lotus, 80 supercharged Evoras have been recalled, all built between February and September, 2011. The problem involves an engine-mounted oil feed pipe, which could rupture, causing loss of engine oil or a possible fire if the oil sprays onto a hot engine.
