A stunning 2001 bright red Lotus Esprit in beautiful condition. The red color is RARE and the most desirable Lotus Esprit color.  Heads turn when I take her on the road.  The car is a BLAST to drive, and handles like you expect a Lotus to.  She is fast and agile.  As my mechanic always says "A Lotus needs to be driven!"

The car is not only fun to drive, but a head turner.  "I'll take that over any Ferrari any day." from one fellow Newport Beach resident and "Dude, you are so the man" from one local surfer dude, are my all time favorite comments I have gotten.  People love this car and it is always turning heads.

From 2004-2009 the Esprit was maintained in Atlanta by two different Lotus specialists, one a former mechanic for Team Lotus Racing.  From 2010 to present the car was maintained by Harry and Paul at Viking Motorsports, Orange County's # 1 Lotus shop, and Paul can give a full run down of work done 714-979-1035.

I was the second owner, buying the car in 2004 with 6,000 miles. An Esprit has always been my dream car, and this gave me 10 years of pure pleasure. Now I live in L.A. now and do not have time to drive it or the roads, to drive it on.

Over the last 10 years I have fully replaced the brakes, including calipers & rotors, paid lots of attention to the cooling system (hot Atlanta summers demanded it) and treated this car with the love it deserves. 

The NADA Book value for this car ranges from 29,800 to 47,400. And this car is certainly above average!

There are only two minor flaws. The seats could use new upholstery, as there are two minor wear spots. It was the next thing on my list to do.  Also, there are minor scratches on the front bumper that need retouching. Those two things will get this car to showroom condition. Lotus Evora update coming, new models still on hold

The trials and tribulations at Lotus over the past several years haven't put the company in best financial position, and after the dismissal of Dany Bahar as CEO, the automaker seemed rudderless. Jean-Marc Gales (pictured above) is the new captain at the helm of the British sports car brand, and he seems like the complete opposite of Bahar. Where the former boss was hugely ambitious (perhaps overly), the current CEO has crafted a plan for a gradual turnaround under what he called a "logic-based" recovery in a recent interview with Autocar. The most logical part of Gales' plan is focusing on what Lotus can actually do. Instead of launching new products, he wants to continue to refine the current lineup. "We won't have the funds to build all-new cars in the next few years," he said to Autocar. The biggest of these updates includes a heavily revised Evora with more power and less weight to debut at next year's Geneva Motor Show. An even lighter-weight Cup model is planned for later. The Exige will get a revision in 2016. Gales also hints that a future, feather-light model like the 2-Eleven is on the docket, and a crossover is on the drawing board, according to Autocar, though not yet green lit. North America is also a priority. Lotus is forever linked to founder Colin Chapman's axiom to add lightness to the brand's models, and Gales is continuing that history with the Lightweight Lab. According to Autocar, in this huge room the company's models are completely disassembled with each part labeled. The entire staff is invited to come in and make suggestions on places to reduce weight and lower costs. "This brand is like a sleeping princess, but I believe she is starting to wake up," Gales said to Autocar, but he's keeping sales projections modest. Gales wants annual numbers to increase from about 2,000 units this year to 3,000 in 2015 with his streamlined workforce but intends to keep figures at that level for a bit, while the company stabilizes.

Banned Lotus 88 F1 car explained by Colin Chapman's son

Racing teams are always looking for ways to gain speed through creative interpretations of the rule book, but speed-obsessed engineers were a little too clever with the twin-chassis design for the Lotus 88 Formula One car. Colin Chapman's son, Clive, gave Goodwood the racer's fascinating story and why the organizers banned it. Lotus' innovation with the 88 was a novel twin-chassis layout. The outer chassis supported the aerodynamic elements and the body, and the inner one held the driver, engine, and transmission. The separate pieces allowed the car to meet the rules in the pits, but the outer chassis would create a seal with the track at speed to preserve the ground effect downforce. The organizers decided this ingenious solution went contrary to the rules against side skirts, and they banned the 88. However, this Lotus was important for a second reason. The inner chassis was F1's first carbon fiber monocoque. The lightweight material is common in racing and performance cars today, but it was a cutting-edge innovation for 1981. A Lotus Super Seven shows what simple beauty means

Roadgoing sports cars don't get much more pure than the Lotus Seven. With no roof or luxuries of any kind, this is quite possibly the car that exemplifies better than any other Lotus founder Colin Chapman's ethos of "simplify, then add lightness." Geoff Wise owns a 1963 Lotus Super Seven, and he shows why the car's uncluttered layout works so well, as you'll see in Petrolicious' latest video. Petrolicious often profiles people who take a classic car and upgrade it into a vintage racer one piece at a time. Wise did the exact opposite, though. He bought his Seven as a track car and converted it to work better on the road. For example, the engine now runs on pump gas, but it still has plenty of power. The bored and stroked 1.7-liter four-cylinder has a claimed 120 horsepower, which is more than adequate in the 1,000-pound Lotus. Wise says the Seven gets tons of attention when he goes for a drive, especially from kids. It's easy to understand why.
