Up for sale is my 1986 Lotus Esprit. I have owned this car for about a year and a half. I purchased it from Lamborghini of Houston, and it has been super reliable and fun to drive. Its my 2nd esprit and I have owned other exotics, so I am fairly well versed in these style of cars. Car leaks no oil, does not smoke, makes boost, transmission syncros are smooth and do not grind. Clutch lets out half way and works perfectly. AC blows cold, just serviced. Wipers, lights, clock, instruments all work properly. Headlights go up and down properly. Has the removable sunroof. Brake pads are new in the back, and the fronts are almost new. New tires, less than 1200 miles on them. Transmission and engine oil changed at 34,000 miles. Rack and pinion in good shape. Cam belt is in good condition and does not need serviced. New air cleaner and spark plugs.
The car has been repainted in the original color. I do not know when it was painted, it was this way when i got it. They did a really good job on the repaint. No overspray or weirdness. All jams look good. The glass on the car is perfect, looks basically new. The interior has been redone at somepoint also. There is no sign whatsover of the car ever being in an accident, no weird stuff with the frame or the underside of the car. The interior looks very good, but the steering wheel does show some sign of wear. The wheels are in good condition, but the clear coat on the rims is checking and looking a little faded. Car temp has never exceeded 90 degrees celsius. The oil pressure at idle when the engine is properly hot (2 hours of driving) is 25 pounds. 50 pounds at idle when just around town. Cooling fans come on and turn off as they should. Car is missing the spare tire/rim. Has a brand new Kenwood Ipod compatible cd player. New battery. This is a fuel injected (bosch) model. I do not have emissions testing here, I do not know if it will pass emissions. On carfax it shows a history of failing, then passing emissions fwiw.
Overall I would say the car is in very good shape. It is not brand new, bear in mind its 27 years old. It does have a few rock chips in the paint and some wear showing here and there. Lotus 3-Eleven may be the quickest track weapon you can buy
Mon, Mar 14 2016Germany's Sport Auto magazine routinely takes world-beating supercars around the short circuit at the Hockenheimring: Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis... the works. But the top of the leaderboard has now been claimed by something altogether smaller and less powerful in the form of the new Lotus 3-Eleven. The most extreme expression of the Elise/Exige platform to date, the 3-Eleven is a track-focused machine of the highest caliber. At its heart sits a relatively humble 3.5-liter supercharged V6, tuned to produce 460 horsepower. But with composite body panels and a low curb weight, it rockets to 60 in under 3.0 seconds flat, and more poignantly laps the company's own test track ten seconds ahead of the Evora 400. Now it's clocked a lap around Hockenheim – sometimes host of the German Grand Prix – in just 1:06.2, just edging out the previous record held by a Porsche 918 Spyder. It also bests the Gumpert Apollo, and the similarly track-focused Radical SR3 SL... not to mention everything else Sport Auto has ever taken to the track. What's even more impressive is that the magazine's road test editor Christian Gebhardt completed the lap on stock rubber and on a cold track that didn't get any warmer than 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Lotus is building 60 extra light, extra aerodynamic Exige Cup 380s
Thu, Apr 20 2017Lotus is never done adding lightness and once again turned its attention to the Exige. Like so many other special Lotuses, this one, called the Exige Cup 380, makes the same 375 horsepower from its supercharged 3.5-liter V6. However, the weight savings is a significant 117 pounds compared with the 2,447-pound Exige Sport 380. This savings comes from the inclusion of many carbon-fiber parts including a one-piece rear hatch, side intakes, hood, front splitter, side sills, and seats, among others. Lotus also removed the gas struts for the hatch to save 2.2 pounds. And if that's not enough, you can save another 2.2 pounds by choosing the optional HVAC and air vent surrounds, and 22 pounds with an optional exhaust system. The Exige Cup 380 also produces significantly more downforce than the Sport, 43-percent more to be exact. That results in maximum downforce of about 441 pounds at the Cup 380's top speed of 175 mph. The car achieves this thanks to a revised front bumper and splitter, vents above the front wheels, more vents behind the rear wheels, and a new rear wing. Even the windshield wiper rests in a vertical position to aid aerodynamics. The Cup 380 doesn't just benefit from better aerodynamics and less weight. The rear tires are wider than the Sport 380 at 285 mm. The Cup 380 also has two-way adjustable shocks and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. Even the stability control can be adjusted to the driver's needs. The car is stopped by four-piston brake calipers at all four corners, and a standard steel roll bar protects the driver. If owners wish, they can also add an FIA-certified full roll cage. Lotus will only build 60 of these Exiges, and they're only available in Europe. They're not cheap either. In the UK, buyers will spend GBP83,000 in the UK and ˆ109,900 in Europe. That means this Exige would cost between $106,000 and $118,000, at current exchange rates. Related Video:
2020 Lotus Elise Classic Heritage Editions celebrate past race car liveries
Wed, May 6 2020For 2020, the Lotus Elise is getting a very limited edition. The Elise Classic Heritage Edition is a version that can be had in one of four liveries that reference past Lotus race cars. While the paint schemes are fitting tributes, the redundancy of having "Classic" and "Heritage" in the same name seem antithetical to Colin Chapman's philosophy of "simplify and add lightness." Name aside, the color schemes look good. Naturally, one of them is the famous black and gold of the John Player Special Lotus race cars. Others are less familiar, but still significant. Two of them highlight cars driven by famous racers. The blue, red and silver combo references the 1980 Lotus Type 81 driven by Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell and Elio de Angelis. The red, white and gold version is for the 1968 Type 49B driven by Graham Hill. As for the blue and white car, it celebrates the first Lotus F1 car to win pole position and the race, the 1960 Type 18. The flashy paint is matched with equally flashy interiors. The upper door panels and other trim pieces are painted in coordinated colors, and the seat centers are finished in matching fabric. The one exception is the blue and white model that gets red seats. While the car is based on the 217-horsepower Elise 220, it gets features that are normally extra-cost on that car, including air conditioning, cruise control, a radio, carpeting and floor mats, two-piece brake rotors and forged wheels. Available as options are a hardtop, lithium-ion battery and titanium exhaust. All of these extra features, plus the colors and exclusivity help make the extra GBP6,350-pound upcharge worthwhile, which makes the car cost GBP46,250, or just over $57,000 at current exchange rates. Speaking of exclusivity, only 100 of these cars will be sold internationally. Lotus notes that the split between the different colors will be dependent on demand, so certain liveries could be rarer than others.
