This auction is for a used 2001 Lotus Esprit. I purchased this out of California after it had an accident and performed the repairs myself. I got it in 2007 with 17,679 miles. I replaced the front bumper, grille, passenger headlight pod, the passenger front wheel fender extension, some of the radiator ducting pieces. While I had the car apart, I sent the radiator out for improvements and had it re-cored with a 3 row copper tubes (versus the 2 row that was standard). I upgraded the oil coolers to aircraft oil coolers that I purchased from Aircraft Spruce. If you go to their website, look for the Meggitt Tory oil cooler. This is very similar to what I installed. At time I got them, they were manufactured by PosiTech International and I have the original certificate of conformance. While I was at it, I upgraded the oil lines to a higher temperature rating hose. I replaced all the rubber bushings with the Lotus Polyurethane versions. This also included the rear trailing arm bushes. Go to the Lotus Esprit World forum (LEW) and look up under maintenance section and then for the Lotus polybush upgrade. While I had the suspension apart, I put in new upper and lower ball joints and POR 15 coated the front and rear suspension arms. I then replaced the brake fuid. After completing the body repairs, I drove to NJ and had RS Motorsports replace the cam belts and put in a new tensioner assembly and idler bearing. When it was there, the ECU was sent to Lotus to be reflash with upgraded software. That was back in April 2009 when it had 18,992 miles (receipt available). A couple of years ago I added new tires: Hankook Ventrus V12 285/35/ZR18 for the rear and 245/40ZR17 for the front. Fast forward to 2014 and I added the 3m carbon fiber vinyl wrap to the bonnet and had the front of the car painted. I always liked the carbon fiber look (but not the price) and this was a relatively non permanent easy upgrade. The car shown in the pictures is the car for sale. |

Lotus Evora 400 shows the new face of progress [w/video]
Tue, Mar 3 2015Lotus may have scrapped all the grandiose plans of the preceding administration, but don't think for one minute that it's going to just sit on its finely honed laurels. No, the British automaker plans to revitalize its existing lineup, starting with the new Evora 400. Based on the company's existing 2+2 sports car, the new Evora 400 features a revised version of the Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter supercharged V6 that now produces 55 more horsepower than the Evora S for a titular total of 400 hp and 302 lb-ft of torque. With revised aero, bodywork, electronics, differential, gearbox and brakes, the new Evora 400 debuting here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show will now run to 60 in 4.1 seconds, reach a top speed of 186 miles per hour and lap the company's famously grueling test track six seconds faster than the previous model. If that's what resting on laurels looks like, we'll be taking our next vacation in Hethel, England. Join XCAR as it explores the history behind the Lotus Seven
Fri, Feb 28 2014All modern Caterhams are based on the Lotus Seven – a small, lightweight roadster developed by Colin Chapman back in 1957. That car has evolved into an entire range of models, spanning from the new, affordable 160, shown below in the latest video from XCAR, to the maniacal 620R. Over the years, the Seven has come to be a known quantity among auto enthusiasts. What isn't as well known is the origin of the Seven and the cars that came before it. As XCAR points out, "What happened to [the Seven's] earlier ancestors? What happened to the Lotus numbered one through six?" The answer probably isn't what you'd expect. Scroll down for a great look at unique motorsport that inspired Colin Chapman's earliest efforts in the latest video from XCAR. This content is hosted by a third party. Lotus introduces Exclusive customization program
Sat, Jan 16 2016Lotus doesn't sell much beyond the Evora 400 in the US, but the announcement of a new personalization program won't be limited to just that model. The Lotus Exclusive program will be applicable to every model that Lotus makes, including the Elise and Exige in all their many iterations, the new 3-Eleven, and the Evora – which remains, for the time being, the only model currently certified for use on American roads. The company will even apply its new range of customization options to pre-owned models. Hethel is currently rolling out the Lotus Exclusive program in Europe, but plans to expand its availability later this year. Buyers will be able to pick from an expanded range of exterior colors – or have a custom hue mixed up specially – in matte, gloss, metallic, or pearlescent finishes. Custom graphics can be applied to the roof and mirror caps, and various exterior components (from spoilers to add-on decals) can be ordered in one of four colors, as can the three available styles of racing stripes. The interior will be available to order with five colors of leather and four colors of stitching thread to give the cockpit a unique touch. Of course Lotus isn't the first manufacturer to offer such a personalization service, which is fast becoming standard fare among exotic and luxury automakers – particularly in Europe. In the UK alone you'll find McLaren Special Operations, Q by Aston Martin, Rolls-Royce Bespoke, and Bentley's Mulliner division. Other examples include Ferrari Tailor Made, Lamborghini Ad Personam, and Porsche Exclusive. Dodge even offers the "1 of 1" program for the Viper GTC. At the very pinnacle of the exotic supercar market, however, manufacturers like Bugatti, Pagani, and Koenigsegg build every one of their supercars to order, according to the customer's specifications, so personalization comes part and parcel with the bragging rights.
