1998 LOTUS ESPRIT TWIN TURBO Built January of 1998, this is the V8 twin turbo model and what a great car. It was delivered new in Northern California by the Lotus dealer of Los Gatos to it's first owner, it has had one other owner since in Reno Nevada.

If you are reading this you probably know already about the Esprit and the great heritage of Lotus.
The founder of the company, Colin Chapman was an automotive genius, everything followed motor racing, his cars set the pace in Sports Car racing with the Eleven, 13 17 and the best of all the 23.  In F1Lotus really came to the fore in the 1960 with a great win by the brilliant Sir Stirling Moss at Monaco, follow that with Jim Clark's 1963 World Championship, Graham Hill's title in 68 and then in 1970 with the arrival of the brilliant Lotus 72  Jochen Rindt won the British, French and German Grand Prix one after another to clinch the world championship-a foretaste of things to come.  So successful was tChapman's design for the 72 that it just improved and improved, Emerson Fittipaldi became F1's youngest champion in 1972 and it continued to win in one form or another for years.

Lotus's drivers list reads like a who's who of motor racing, Ronnie Peterson, Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell, my son's hero Ayrton Senna, right throgh to today with the great Kimi Raikonen (leave me alone, I now what I'm doing) and the ever improving Grossjean (Yeah I'm an F1 fan!).
Chapmans famous" throwing of his hat into the air" eveytime his drivers crossed the finish line in first place I have carried on, my 13 year old son races 125cc Rotax GoKarts and I'm always at the finish line ready to throw my hat in the air when he wins! ("Horatio Fitz-Simon Racing" look him up on Facebook)......But back to the car I'm trying to sell..........................

The Esprit was conceived in the 70's, it was a stunning car at its launch and its fabulous looks continue to draw attention to this day. The first cars were powered by a Ford four cylinder and the bodies were made of fiberglass, something Lotus excelled at, the 1960's Elite was, I believe the first true monocoque fibreglass car.  The Esprit went through many changes and improvements over the years, but by 1998 the cars were powered by a proper V8 and exhaust gas was used to propel the mixture under high pressure into the motor with aid of twin turbochargers. Bodies were now made from a Kevlar/GRP mix, a vast improvement over the earlier models, this made them much stronger and the panels more stable. The interiors of the late cars are the best trimmed leather I've seen, there's dead cow from the front screen all the way to the surround of the rear window.

This Lotus, resplendent in Silver exterior with full black leather piped in red has been babied its entire 15 years of life, it appears to have never seen the rain,  take off the wheels and you can see the suspension still wears its zinc plating on the wishbones, the springs have the white paint on the black coil.
The exterior is super nice, there are some stone chips on the nose and front hood, but the paint is shiny and in super-nice condition. The right wheels have some small curb rash but confined only to the outer edge of the beads, the left wheels are perfect. The interior is absolutely lovely and still smells like a new pair of Gucci loafers, obviously the owners were non smokers. The engine is super clean and has no oil leaks, it starts easily, makes no smoke (what do you expect from an eleven thousand mile car) gears engage easily and it shifts up and down the pattern as you'd expect, when the Turbos kick in you get a nice kick in the back and the car leaps forward.
The toolkit is unused, the spare has never been on the ground and the roof spoiler is wrapped in a towel in the trunk for when you take the center panel off. I have both keys and the owners manual, plus a bunch of receipts for oil changes, though none for a belt change.
I would welcome any reasonable inspection, the Lotus is available for viewing in Pleasanton, California, just call me 925 789 9825 to arrange.
Come on, seriously, where else can you get a 170mph supercar for less than thirty grand.....it's champagne motoring for beer money!

And here's the usual stuff....This is not a computer game, please bid to buy, your bid is a binding contract, car is sold as is where is, no warranties implied or otherwise, all inspections must be made before auctions end, I am happy to help with shipping in the US or overseas. I am a licensed California car dealer and if you are in the state of California I must collect sales tax, that even applies of you want to come and collect it yourself..if you have any questions the number is 925 789 9825, thanks for looking!

Lotus Type 132 electric crossover spotted testing in China

Mon, Feb 14 2022

Thanks to Carscoops, we know that Weibo Chinese social media user Ductile Iron BX spotted a Lotus Type 132 prototype testing on Chinese roads. This is the vehicle that will inaugurate the English sports car maker's transition to a battery-electric future and its future as a purveyor of crossovers, the once dirty word among the light-and-simple crowd that's just too profitable to ignore. In profile, the long, low roof makes the Type 132 look more like a jacked-up Allroad-style wagon than a traditional crossover. The heavy camo can't hide the jutting tail that holds a deployable spoiler. Those regular-sized wheels look good, but they don't fill the arches that way we've come to expect from speedy SUVs; we won't be surprised if larger rims appear on the debut model, with an option for even larger rims. The treatment of the rear quarter glass, which looks like a vent, is a neat touch. We know black drapery hides other touches like an active lower grille, its hexagonal mesh peppered with panels that twirl open to provide the right combination of powertrain cooling and vehicle aerodynamics, and some kind of sensor unit rising from the roof. Nor can the camouflage hide the sharp lines throughout, from the concave front fascia to the arced rear fenders to the dramatic rear bumper. This could be a good looking start to Lotus' people-hauler era. The Type 132 is expected to debut this spring, riding on the firm's Evolution Architecture for premium vehicles and featuring 800-volt electrics and a battery with a possible 120-kilowatt capacity. Lotus has said the crossover will reach 60 miles per hour in under 3. seconds, an estimate that probably refers to the dual-motor version that might put out as much as 750 horsepower. Even though the Type 132's place in the luxury segment will see it lined up against entries like the Aston Martin DBX and Porsche Cayenne, this being the first super-sporty CUV from this OEM, it will undoubtedly spend the early part of its life thrown into battles with the Tesla Model X. Lotus is building 60 extra light, extra aerodynamic Exige Cup 380s

Thu, Apr 20 2017

Lotus is never done adding lightness and once again turned its attention to the Exige. Like so many other special Lotuses, this one, called the Exige Cup 380, makes the same 375 horsepower from its supercharged 3.5-liter V6. However, the weight savings is a significant 117 pounds compared with the 2,447-pound Exige Sport 380. This savings comes from the inclusion of many carbon-fiber parts including a one-piece rear hatch, side intakes, hood, front splitter, side sills, and seats, among others. Lotus also removed the gas struts for the hatch to save 2.2 pounds. And if that's not enough, you can save another 2.2 pounds by choosing the optional HVAC and air vent surrounds, and 22 pounds with an optional exhaust system. The Exige Cup 380 also produces significantly more downforce than the Sport, 43-percent more to be exact. That results in maximum downforce of about 441 pounds at the Cup 380's top speed of 175 mph. The car achieves this thanks to a revised front bumper and splitter, vents above the front wheels, more vents behind the rear wheels, and a new rear wing. Even the windshield wiper rests in a vertical position to aid aerodynamics. The Cup 380 doesn't just benefit from better aerodynamics and less weight. The rear tires are wider than the Sport 380 at 285 mm. The Cup 380 also has two-way adjustable shocks and adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. Even the stability control can be adjusted to the driver's needs. The car is stopped by four-piston brake calipers at all four corners, and a standard steel roll bar protects the driver. If owners wish, they can also add an FIA-certified full roll cage. Lotus will only build 60 of these Exiges, and they're only available in Europe. They're not cheap either. In the UK, buyers will spend GBP83,000 in the UK and ˆ109,900 in Europe. That means this Exige would cost between $106,000 and $118,000, at current exchange rates. Related Video:

Lotus Evora GT410 Sport exhaust is the best new holiday song

Fri, Dec 21 2018

No matter what holidays people are celebrating, there's one winter celebration car enthusiasts can come together for: Driftmas. A Lotus Evora GT410 Sport was recently possessed by the ghost of Driftmas present Ken Block and decided to get sideways all over the Lotus campus in Hethel, Norfolk, England. The result is a beautiful winter symphony. The video is done in a slightly cheeky manner, as the yellow Evora shows up to work with a fully geared-up driver in the front seat, and a full Christmas tree stick to the rear engine cover. After blowing past a pristine Espirit S1 in a "slow" zone, the Evora slowly creeps through one of the garages, where a beautiful black and gold Type 72 race car sits quiet as a mouse. It then makes its way through a testing area and to a parking lot, where it rings a few bells around three specialty Lotus models, including what appear to be Exige Cup cars. It finishes the ride in front of the main office, where Lotus has another Christmas tree filled with little toy cars as ornaments. Before the Grinches start complaining about how it's not Gymkhana, that's correct. It's not. But we'd never turn our noses at a video with a soundtrack a sweet as this. Merry Driftmas to all.
