Here is an extremely rare opportunity to own a very special one-off Lotus sports car. This incredibly unique supercar was custom-built from a true Lotus factory race car chassis, but highly modified by the builder to much higher performance specifications and improved cockpit design/comfort. If you let this one go, you will not see another one for sale down the road. This is it. 1 of 1.

This is NOT your production Elise/Exige with 190hp Toyota power plant, but rather a 1700lb 300hp 6-spd go-kart on steroids, with nearly twice the rubber on the pavement then a production model S2 Elise/Exige. Built from a 1999 Lotus Sport 190 race chassis with 5,800 original miles, the Elise GT has 1000 miles on the newly fitted Honda race engine (break-in/tuning), and less than 50 miles on the new composite widebody.

$135,000 has been invested into this car build. This is not a body kit. Although the hand-formed, composite body is absolutely stunning, it was developed to optimize aerodynamic performance. Integrated front splitter, DRM-style wheel venting, side rockers, rear diffuser, and 67" fully adjustable carbon fiber wing (removable) provide an incredibly stable feel at track speed. Finished in Ferrari Giallo Modena yellow paint, the front clam is wrapped with 3M clear bra for paint protection. Updated lighting package includes custom HID beam headlamps and full LED lighting.

The power plant is a custom transplanted 4cyl K24, Honda's high-torque engine with the latest iVTEC technology. Performance-built to over 300bhp, this normally aspirated 2.4L is like having 600+hp in a 3500lb car. In other words, the power to weight ratio is through the roof and absolutely exhilarating to drive. Torque is delivered throughout the entire rpm range and is nothing short of phenomenal.

Honda K24A2 2.4L iVTEC Engine (from the Acura TSX) - Normally Aspirated - 300+bhp
Honda 6-spd Transmission / Exeedy Performance Clutch / Lightweight Fly Wheel
Ported/Polished Race Head / Oversized Valves / Performance Valve Train - Springs / Stage 2 Cams / Pro Chain-Tensioner
Skunk2 Pro-K Series Intake Manifold - 70mm Throttle Body - Composite Fuel Rail - 725cc Injectors - K-Tuned Fuel Pressure Regulator
Custom Cold Air Intake with remotely mounted (accessible) K&N Filter System
12.5:1 Compression Pistons w/ Coated Skirts / Bored 87.5mm / Crower Lightweight Rods / Balanced Rotating Assembly (Spins to 9500, but 8500rpm red line recommended)
Baffled Oil Sump w/ K20 Oil Pump (ported for high flow) / Remote Oil Filter Cartridge (Canton) / Laminova Water-Cooled Oil Cooler (Mocal)
High Capacity / High Pressure Radiator / Dual Race Fans - for Improved Cooling (important on mid-engine cars)
Custom Yellow Silicone Coolant Hoses / Stainless Steel Braided Fuel / Oil Lines - Aluminum AN Fittings
Custom Fabricated Header / Exhaust System - MagnaFlow Race Muffler (This car sounds incredible!)

In order to adequately transfer the power to the pavement, 3" of additional rubber was added to each corner of the car. This required a custom composite body be designed to fit the wider low-profile Hoosier R6 tires with SSR 3-piece wheels. Add some custom-valved Nitron dampers and upgraded aluminum-belled disc rotors, and the grip/performance on this car is unlike anything you can imagine.

The interior has been tastefully outfitted with carbon fiber and black alcantra suede. Custom carbon fiber seats with Schroth 6-point harness system ensures both driver & passenger are connected to the car during extreme high-g turns. The center console was custom fabricated with carbon fiber/alcantra and fitted with gauges and a Traqmate GPS data logger system with telemetry recording (RPM, Gear, TPS, Brake, Speed, GPS, and more) for integration with video. Custom software and digital dashboard (along with training) is also included with the car (see videos on YouTube). A progressive shift light system sets atop the dash to further assist the driver to get the most out of the car's power.. The dash/door panels also incorporate carbon fiber and alcantra, providing a tastefully finished and refined look.

To top it off, the Elise GT also includes a unique prototype 'H-pattern Auto Throttle Blip' system designed to rev match during quick downshifting under heavy braking, eliminating the need to heel/toe. This is an INCREDIBLE feature, and not available on any other H-pattern transmission. One of a kind!

This car was imported, designed, and built for off-road use only. It is not street legal. That said, the chassis is Lotus, but everything else has been replaced. A new Honda engine, transmission, drive train, body, lighting, suspension, interior, etc. With a couple modifications to the exhaust system (catalytic convertor), it may be possible to get this car certified as a 'kit car' dependent on your State's compliance requirements. I know of people who did it with these cars, but I had no desire to do so as this is the ultimate track car... through and through.

I also will include some very specialized tools developed specifically for this car, and a SUPER low profile extended floor jack. The car is way to low for regular floor jacks. I also have collected tons of manuals and support information (including wiring diagrams) and will include all receipts for items should you ever choose to register as a kit car and apply for a VIN. The car comes with a certificate of origination that indicates 'For Off-Road Use Only'.

Email me for video links to see more of this car on track!

Also Available (but not included in this price)...

Custom 20' Look Auto Hauler Trailer -

Custom built to provide track side comfort, but also to use as a mobile trade show showroom/office. I use it to operate a track side GoPro camera rental service.

20' Look Trailer - Tandem Axle (2011 or 12... I'd have to look) - Bought it new.
Finished ceiling with 12v lighting from vehicle hitch connection.

Carpet - While the trailer came with wood walls and floors, I carpeted the entire trailer (walls/floors).

Custom Cabinetry - I designed the cabinets and had a company custom build them in. Lot's of power outlets in them. An AC unit is housed in the cabinet on the left. Underneath is storage for additional tires/wheels. The center cabinet is where I put my laptop. I also keep a small Bose sound system in there. Both of these feed the 27" HD Display Monitor/Speakers up above. This allows me to play promotional videos at shows and provide track side video services. I also installed rope lights around the ceiling for low light setting at trade shows.

Folding Sleeper/Sofa - Folds flat against the wall when hauling the Lotus. Once the car rolls out, it drops down and provides a nice sofa on track day. Nice for changing into proper track suit and shoes. It also folds down into a rather sizable bed.

20' Awning - I just had this installed this past April. Checkered flag design and folds out in two minutes. Awesome!!

Race Ramps - The Lotus sits very low, so to avoid any scrapes on the front splitter, these are super-lite ramps that allow you to easily and effortlessly drive the car into the trailer. No steep ramp or winch needed. Piece of cake.

I fully outfitted the trailer with items that are specifically made to support track side race gear, holders and shelves if you will. The are polycarbonate plastic so they'll never rust. Tie Down Straps/Holders, Helmet, glove, and glasses holders. Ramps/holders. Twin 10'x10' Checkered Flag Race Canopies/holders, CF Chairs & CF Table/Holders, CF Flags on telescopic poles (with Lotus Flags too), Fuel Bottles and Holders, Floor Jack Holder, Air Gauge Holder, Cans & Cleaners Cabinet. These are all mounted on the walls so nothing slips around. It also has a checkered flag 20'x12' pad that covers the asphalt trailer-side (for car or chairs/table).

I also have an 2001 F350 tow vehicle if interested in negotiating the whole package. More photos on request.

Now’s your chance to buy Lotus founder Colin Chapman’s 1981 Turbo Esprit

Mon, May 18 2020

Lotus founder and Chairman Colin Chapman’s former 1981 Turbo Esprit Series 3 sports car is for sale, and it looks fantastic in its metallic silver exterior imprinted with “turbo esprit” on both sides and the bonnet, and contrasting red leather interior. Built in February 1981 but not registered until August, it was ChapmanÂ’s personal car until his death in late 1982, and was also driven at one point by former Lotus Formula One driver Elio de Angelis. Chapman even arranged for British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher to drive it, at the Norfolk Airport in 1981. Thatcher was quoted in the local paper as saying it was “lovely to drive.” Right, then. Lotus built the car to ChapmanÂ’s specifications, with a lowered and modified suspension, modified bodywork to reduce wind noise, special brake pads and features like power steering and air conditioning that didnÂ’t figure in production models. Chapman, who suffered from hay fever, also had pollen filters installed, plus a roof-mounted Panasonic stereo system. ThereÂ’s also a specially assembled, blueprinted engine; Esprit Turbos of that model year featured a 2.2-liter turbocharged inline-four that made 210 horsepower and 200 pound-feet of torque. This was also the first Esprit model to be fitted with BBS alloy wheels. After ChapmanÂ’s death, the car was maintained for a few months by the companyÂ’s Factory Service Department, and eventually made its way to a succession of private owners. The car is currently on its sixth owner across seven transactions (one ended up re-acquiring the car), but it has just a hair over 11,000 miles on the odometer, with a new clutch slave cylinder and radiator core installed in the past decade. “This vehicle has lived a pampered existence and is a testament not only to its rich pedigree but to those who have cared for it over the years,” says the listing at Mark Donaldson Ltd., which claims it comes with extensive records. According to Top Gear, the seller is looking to fetch at least 80,000 pounds, or around $97,000. Related Video:

Lotus reveals an even lighter version of the Elise Cup 250

Thu, Jun 1 2017

For an automaker with very few resources, Lotus manages to keep things relatively fresh. The new Evora 400 is a blast to drive, even if it is just a heavily revised version of the car that debuted in 2009. The current Lotus Elise debuted back in 2010, and though it may have departed from our shores, Lotus keeps customers worldwide happy with a plethora of new variants. The latest model is the lightweight Lotus Elise Cup 250. Now, this isn't the same Elise Cup 250 that debuted last year, though the two cars are very, very similar. The main difference is weight, as is typical with a Lotus. Colin Chapman's tried and true saying, simplify and add lightness, is still true here. The new model weighs just 1,895 pounds, or 1,948 without the lightweight package. Last year's Elise Cup 250 was already quite svelte at 2,053 pounds. While you may think that shaving that much weight from an already light car must be the result of black magic or a localized black hole, the truth is far more simple. The Elise Cup 250 makes extensive use of carbon fiber, titanium, and aluminum for components like the bodywork, exhaust, and wheels. The rear window is plastic instead of glass, and the standard lead-acid battery is replaced with a lithium-ion battery. The rest of the car remains mostly unchanged. The car is propelled by a 243-horsepower supercharged 1.8-liter inline four. It can hit 60 mph in just 3.9 seconds, quicker than the more powerful Evora 400. There's plenty of aero to keep the car planted, but it's not a pure track car like the Exige. The Elise Cup 250 still comes with a full interior with a stereo, though there's no mention of cupholders. As exciting as all this may be, the Elise Cup 250 won't be coming to the US. Unfortunately, airbags and crash structures all add weight. For everyone else, the Elise Cup 250 is at dealers now. Editors' Picks June 2024: Some German SUVs and an excellent sports car

Fri, Jul 5 2024

This month sees some recently-refreshed luxury SUVs join the list of Editors' Picks. Both the BMW X5 and Porsche Cayenne are fresh for 2024, and both are extremely tempting luxury performance SUVs for the well-off buyer. The vast array of powertrains available for both of them ensure there's a version for all comers, and any enthusiast would adore the extra-high-performance versions of both. Of course, enthusiasts will enjoy the last car on this month's list the most with the Lotus Emira. It's simply spectacular to drive, and we can't recommend it enough to the hardcore driver. In case you missed previous Editors' Picks posts, here’s a quick refresher on whatÂ’s going on here. We rate all the new cars we drive with a 1-10 score. Cars that are exemplary in their respective segments get an EditorsÂ’ Pick designation. Those are the ones weÂ’d recommend to our friends, family and anybody whoÂ’s curious and asks the question. You'll find the entire list of Editors' Picks at this link here, which we keep updated as cars are either added or dropped from the list. The vehicles youÂ’ll find below consist of every car we rated in June that earned an EditorsÂ’ Pick. 2024 BMW X5 2024 BMW X5 M Competition View 41 Photos Quick take: The X5 is most desirable in its PHEV and M60i V8 trims, but the whole lineup is extremely competent and brings together excellent performance, excess luxury and cutting-edge tech for its segment. Score: 7.5 What it competes with: Mercedes-Benz GLE, Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport, Maserati Levante, Genesis GV80, Audi Q8 Pros: Superb to drive with knockout powertrains; excellent utility and creative features; styling is sporty and attractive but not over the top Cons: Infotainment system can be a pain; M Competition model is a little over the top; gets pricey quick with options From the editors:  Senior Editor, Electric John Beltz Snyder — "I really like the dual-opening liftgate/tailgate combo. The liftgate portion up top opens quickly, allowing you to throw something inside or grab something out of the back. Flipping down the lower tailgate part gives you a nice place to sit and change shoes. Another benefit is that you can open the liftgate without unsecured items immediately falling out. And with the way the X5 M Competition encourages you to drive it hard, you will end up shifting loose cargo around at some point." Road Test Editor Zac Palmer — "I'd snag the X5 M60i out of all the various X5 variants.
