2006 - Lotus Exige on 2040-cars
San Luis Obispo, California, United States
Model Overview The Lotus Exige was introduced in 2006 as a hard-top version of Elise. It carries many of the best features of the Elise, such as the all-aluminum chassis, and the feather-light design. Weighing in at 2,077 lbs, the Exige is one of the lightest closed cars available. Besides fixing the roof, Lotus stiffened the suspension and made subtle changes to the sheet metal. The Exige features a unique engine cover and rear wing, as well as a front fascia that helps provide additional downforce over the Elise. For 2007, Lotus wanted to improve engine performance, so they added a supercharger to the 1.8L Toyota-sourced engine. This boosted output to 220 horsepower and torque to 165 ft-lbs, all while increasing efficiency to 23 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. But what has not changed is how dedicated Lotus is to making the Exige the ultimate driver's car. The seats are specially shaped to embrace the driver, but the thin padding means that every nuance of the road is transmitted to his or her hips. The car sits extraordinarily low at 45 inches tall. The steering is not power-assisted, but the ratio is quick and communication with the road is razor sharp. The only transmission available is a six-speed manual. The Lotus also features only four cubic feet of cargo space--1.3 cubic feet less than a Mazda MX-5.But that's the cost of the Exige's blistering performance. Lotus claims a zero to sixty time of 4.1 seconds. The Exige's mid-engine design, racing-style anti-lock brakes, and Eibach/Bilstein suspension mean this is a serious sports car. Lotus didn't want to dilute the essence of the car, but they did spare a few popular comfort items. Among them, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, leather seats with leather inserts, and a Blaupunkt CD player. The Exige is available in several configurations to suit the ways different people intend to use it. The Touring Package adds full leather seats, power windows, and sound insulation. Description of Car Here is an absolutely beautiful 2006 Lotus Exige S that is in excellent condition and an absolute blast to drive. This particular car was loaded from the factory with every option, White paint, Touring Package with leather seats and an overall more comfortable interior and an i-pod hook up. Additionally this car was prepared with a Carbon Fiber Splitter, Schroth ASM Racing Harnesses, Light Weight Battery, Custom Engine Tune and Katana II supercharger means this engine is making 255 hp! Also fitted is a Larini Sport Exhaust, Ferodo Street / Track brakes, rigid engine mounts, “bollock” shift knob, Toyo R888 tires, DBW Pedals. This car performs flawlessly and makes for an excellent affordable track car that can be driven to and from the track! With the weight reductions and the supercharger, this car is making 260 hp per ton; compare that with a NEW Porsche 911 that only makes 230 hp per ton. You decide how this translates into driving fun. This car is fully street legal with current California smog!!! There are not many track day toys that can be as reliable as a Toyota, with the performance of a super car. Most of the original factory Lotus parts are available with the car. These truly are excellent cars and are very rare with less than 300 imported to the US. This is an accident free car that is ready to be driven and enjoyed. This is a great value and these cars will undoubtedly be sought after as collectible cars in the future!!! This car earns lots of thumbs up everywhere you go and is a pleasure to drive. It would make a great addition to any collection or a weekend showpiece. Lotus next F1 team to collapse?
Thu, Jan 1 2015With the big post-season game of musical chairs finally over, the FIA recently released the final entry list for the 2015 Formula One World Championship. And while most of it is exactly as we've reported along the way (with Sebastian Vettel switching to Ferrari and Fernando Alonso moving to McLaren), the list does have a couple of small surprises. Reigning champ Lewis Hamilton, for example, has opted to race under his own Number 44 instead of the Number 1 to which he is entitled, but it's the asterisks that are raising some eyebrows. Both the Caterham and Marussia teams (the latter listed as Manor Grand Prix Racing Ltd, the name of the racing outfit that technically owns the entry slot) are listed as "subject to confirmation," and while Caterham (unlike the liquidating Marussia team) is still fighting to recover in time for next season, its tentative listing comes as no big surprise. What is a surprise, however, is the inclusion of the Lotus F1 Team with the same caveat, prompting speculation that the Enstone-based outfit might not make the grid next year. Those schooled in F1 history will know that the Lotus team of today shares little in common with the British sports car manufacturer and engineering consultancy of the same name, or with the historic F1 team that previously raced under that banner. It started out as Toleman (the team with which Ayrton Senna got his start) before being bought out by Benetton (where Michael Schumacher won his first two World Champion titles). It was then taken over by Renault (where Alonso won his two titles) before Genii Capital took over and fostered a relationship with Lotus that allowed it to use the name. In a final breaking of ties with Renault, the team is switching to Mercedes power for next season. The Enstone team has struggled recently, however. From the title-winning operation it once was, Lotus dropped down to eighth place in the 2014 Championship, failing to land on the podium (let alone win a race) even once this season, suffering a dozen DNFs out of nineteen grands prix. Without factory backing, the team has struggled financially as well, and without an injection of funds, it could drop off the entry list altogether.
Lotus Evora comes in for a facelift
Mon, Feb 16 2015Lotus may have scrapped the ambitious product plans of its previous administration, but don't think it's going to try to skate by on an altogether unchanged lineup. It's preparing what promises to be some major updates for the Evora, which is a good thing because that's currently the only model Lotus offers in the States. And here's out first look at what's in store. It's hard to tell much with all the camouflage disguising it from prying eyes like ours, but you can see this Evora prototype is wearing a new front bumper and what appear to be reshaped side sills that could be redesigned to allow easier ingress and egress not something for which low-slung Lotuses have been particularly well known in the past. A retuned version of the Toyota-sourced V6 engine is also said to be under the hood, and unburdened a bit by a cut in curb weight. The revised Evora is expected to make its debut next month at the Geneva Motor Show, paving the way for a potential convertible and even a crossover version down the road.
Why Lotus thinks its luxury EV game plan will succeed globally
Sun, Feb 25 2024Luxury sports car and EV maker Lotus completed its SPAC merger last week in the U.S. and its stock was publicly traded for the first time on Friday. Its an interesting turn of events for the Geely-backed automaker now known as Lotus Tech given the uncertain EV market, but one that may prove an exception to the struggles of other pure-play EV makers. Trading under the ticker LOT on the Nasdaq, Lotus Tech will focus on the higher end of the EV market with its Eletre SUV and Emeya sedan, which will not only be offered in the US but also in Europe and, more importantly, China. What is most important here is that we are definitely going to more markets at the same time through more models and through more stores, said Lotus Tech CFO Alexious Lee to Yahoo Finance from the Nasdaq market site. By the end of the year Lotus will have four vehicles in production, three of them EVs. These four models are currently available in Asia Pacific and part of it is also available in UK and EU, Lee said. We're having the new [Eletre] SUV model coming into the U.S. in the third quarter of this year, so different markets have different strategies and different product offerings and different conditions." Lotus is able to go to market in a number of territories due to the backing of its majority owner, Chinese auto giant Geely. But it also raised a considerable amount of money through its SPAC merger. Lotus Tech said it raised more than $880 million in pre-closing and PIPE financing commitments, with a targeted valuation on listing day of nearly $7 billion. Lotus Tech also had an interesting partner with its SPAC merging, combining with L Catterton Asia Acquisition Corp (LCAA), which is backed by French luxury conglomerate LVMH. Lotus Eletre in Solar Yellow View 11 Photos As Lotus targets the luxury segment with its vehicles the Eletre and Emeya will be playing in the $80,000 to $150,000 ballpark having a partner like LVMH, with its deep connections and insights into the luxury consumer, could be hugely beneficial. Now what is more important here is Anish Melwani, who is the CEO for LVMH North America, will be on the board of Lotus Tech, Lee said.
