2003 - Lotus Esprit on 2040-cars
Mission Hills, California, United States
This is the car Lotus wanted to sell. Instead of detuning their wonderful V8 due to drivetrain issues, - fix the weak transaxle and let it pump out the 500 horses it was intended to! That’s exactly what you have here. The current owner ( only the second ) has taken a, sweet 20K California car and spent well over 100,000 to build this Ferrari eating supercar. All this and it is still capable of passing the strict California Emissions test and dropping a very happy kid off at school. Most of the work was performed by a well known Los Angeles County Lotus specialist and there has been a lot of it. Starting with the engine, it has been completely disassembled blueprinted, balanced and rebuilt using new bearings, forged pistons etc. The heads have been reworked and fuel system has benefited from a set of matched injectors and an ECU that is reprogrammable with the use of chips. Breathing in through K&N free flowing filters the turbo’s ( both rebuilt) now cool the air in a large charge cooler prior to the engine breathing out through racing cats. The manifolds have been Jet Hot coated and the racing exhaust system features upgraded O2 sensors and the turbos have new blow off valves and a very neat 15 pound boost gauge added to the interior. The result is an amazing sound and incredible performance. Aesthetically the engine also looks the part with a lot of candy blue powder coating, Aeroquip lines and braided or silicone hoses. The whole thing is held in the car by a set of heavy duty engine mounts. The torque is gripped by a 3 plate racing clutch and fed into the upgraded UN-1-13 gearbox, and custom linkage that is controlled with a brushed aluminum shifter knob with Lotus logo. The final drive was replaced with a Quaife limited slip differential. The rubber that hits the road consists of a good set of Dunlop Sport 9000 tires, 285/35ZR18 on the rear and 235/40zZR17 on the front. Suspension tweaking was next with new Lotus Bilstein shocks front and back, held up by Eibach springs all round with a 17mm sway bar fitted at the front. Finally stopping power was increased to match the forward motion by using Willwood 6 pot calipers on the front with a similar set of 4 piston units at the back with 12 inch ventilated discs all round. The cooling system did not go untouched either, having a new water pump, hi capacity radiator and high performance fan set-up, which all keep this fire breathing beast cool at all times.. To protect this vulnerable area a ¼ inch thick skid plate was added under the front. There is also a manual override switch controllable from the drivers seat. To help keep you driving, the car is equipped with Generation 8 High Power laser interceptors with quad detectors and a Valentine One radar locator, high range hidden system with controls units in the dash and hidden sensors installed in the front and rear bumpers – Stealth? The interior shows a little use, but is in good condition, with race inspired leather seats and dash, as well as a leather wrapped steering wheel and hand brake. It has also had a Halon fire extinguishing system neatly installed – just in case! This Esprit also has been equipped with a Kenwood radio with IPod connection, DVD and GPS system, and has had additional speakers installed for a total of 6 Alpine and 2 Infinity speakers, 4-mid range and 2 large woofers, and two tweeters with an external amplifier system. The car also has an active Low Jack anti theft system installed. The factory heat and air conditioning, both work as intended. The headlights were upgraded to new Hella Headlamp System, and the taillights are LED. The entire front half of the car has been shielded with SC Clearbra to eliminate road rash and it has done a good job. The exterior paint very nice, a deep black and in good condition, there is one minor scratch on the driver side quarter panel. There are some chips and scrapes to the lower valence/bumper but nothing unexpected or unusual. It has had a new gasket kit for the sun roof installed. There is a lot of invoices and a current smog certificate that go with this car along with a hardtop panel and some extra exhaust parts. This black beauty starts with ease, idles smoothly with performance that is breathtakingly fast. Although this car is obviously extremely powerful, it is surprisingly docile and easy to drive. The racing clutch is firm but forgiving and the gears selection easy and precise, not always the case with mid engine cars. It’s easy to just to cruise around town - until you stop wanting to cruise. The upgrades have come together to make this an exceptional automobile. This is a testament to the overall approach of no cutting corners by the owner and the professional manner in which these upgrades have been carried out. It has been well looked after since its purchase in 2006 and driven frequently but lightly by its mature owner and now it is time to pass it on for someone else to enjoy. It has never been crashed and it is straight, very clean and turns heads wherever it goes.

Radford Type 62-2 John Player Special takes the coach-built sports car even higher
Wed, Sep 8 2021Radford revealed its Type 62-2 a month ago, and today the coach-building company is releasing its first 62-2 variant. It’s simply called the JPS, short for John Player Special. YouÂ’d be able to guess that just by looking at the car, though, as itÂ’s completely done up in the traditional John Player Special black and gold livery. This JPS Type 62-2 isnÂ’t just a livery either. ItÂ’s the most extreme version of the car, even more so than the Gold Leaf version of the standard Radford that improves matters over the “Classic” model. Engine output sees a sharp turn upwards from 500 horsepower to 600 horsepower in the JPS. ItÂ’s still using the 3.5-liter supercharged V6 youÂ’d find in the Lotus Evora (an engine Lotus borrows from Toyota), but this one is heavily modified. Radford says it uses upgraded pistons, new connecting rods, camshafts and an upgraded supercharger. Plus, itÂ’s running a more aggressive engine calibration. Hauling it to a stop are upgraded brakes — Radford uses carbon ceramic rotors and AP calipers. New and larger carbon composite wheels (18-inch front and 19-inch rear) from Dymag are fitted and wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Plenty of appearance and aero changes are made to separate the JPS from the other Type 62-2s. Radford says itÂ’s either lightly massaged or made big changes to every area of the bodywork. YouÂ’ll notice a giant new splitter up front, larger side air intakes to cool the more powerful engine and a more extreme diffuser in back to produce more downforce. WeÂ’ll also note that the JPS “livery” is not a sticker package; itÂ’s all painted on, requiring hours and hours of work by hand. Pricing for the JPS hasnÂ’t been revealed, but itÂ’s guaranteed to be expensive. This special model will be sliced out of the total production of Type 62-2s. Only 12 of the 62 total cars will be the John Player Special cars, so theyÂ’ll be incredibly rare — Radford says itÂ’s currently taking build slot applications, so you still have a shot at buying one. If you want to see the JPS in person, Radford says it will be on display at this yearÂ’s Goodwood Revival. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Watch the Lotus 3-Eleven run down Porsches and destroy the Nurburgring
Wed, Sep 21 2016The Lotus 3-Eleven is the automaker's most powerful production machine to date. Roughly a year ago, Lotus set out to show just how capable the 3-Eleven is by sending the open-top track-focused machine to the Nurburgring. Lotus claims the car set a blistering time of 7:06 around the track. Now in a belated celebration, automaker released two new, short clips of the vehicle sprinting around the Green Hell. There's no questioning just how capable the 3-Eleven is. In both videos, which are shot from the driver's seat, the track car chases down various Porsches at an impressive rate. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. While there's some controversy over how Lotus set the time, the 3-Eleven's claimed Nurburgring pace is quicker than a Nissan GT-R Nismo and is just four seconds slower than a Lamborghini Aventador LP750-4 SV. Earlier this year, Germany's Sport Auto magazine took the 3-Eleven to the Hockenheimring where the track car managed to set a new record, besting the likes of the Porsche 918 Spyder. With a claimed dry weight of just 1,962 pounds, the 3-Eleven focuses emphasizes lightweight structure over massive power. Still, it's Lotus' most powerful production car with a 3.5-liter supercharged V6. In the right hands, the 3-Eleven can sprint to 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and managed to lap the automaker's test track 10 seconds quicker than the Evora 400. Marc Basseng, the racecar driver piloting the 3-Eleven, claimed the 3-Eleven could go even faster around the Nurburgring with less traffic. After watching these new clips, we would have to agree. Lotus will go public via SPAC with $5.4 billion valuation
Wed, Feb 1 2023Lotus Technology, the electric-car maker owned by China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., agreed to merge with a blank-check company in a transaction that values the combined entity at about $5.4 billion. L Catterton Asia Acquisition Corp. will combine with the EV making subsidiary of the British carmaking group that Geely acquired back in 2017, the two said in a statement Tuesday. The special purpose acquisition companyÂ’s sponsor has ties to Bernard Arnault, the worldÂ’s richest man. Lotus Tech has been looking to go public since at least early last year. Management may have been encouraged by another luxury auto brandÂ’s recent listing: Porsche AG pulled off EuropeÂ’s largest initial public offering in a decade when it debuted in Frankfurt in September. A week later, Porsche overtook Volkswagen AG as EuropeÂ’s most valuable automaker. Rather than go the IPO route, Lotus Tech will merge with a SPAC whose sponsor combined with the private equity operations of ArnaultÂ’s luxury-goods powerhouse LVMH in 2016. LVMH is a passive minority investor in L Catterton, according to a spokeswoman. Arnault overtook Tesla Inc. Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk as the worldÂ’s richest man last month — the first time a European claimed the top spot on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. While Group Lotus is tiny compared to Tesla, Geely has been steering it away from combustion engines and has several all-electric models planned for the coming years. Lotus Tech sees itself as a competitor to the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin, and will get a jump on the first electric models from those brands. Lotus unveiled its all-electric Eletre sport utility vehicle last year and plans to launch a rival to PorscheÂ’s popular Taycan EV in 2023. Geely and other owners are expected to retain an 89.7% shareholding in Lotus Tech after the SPAC merger. GeelyÂ’s billionaire owner Li Shufu also controls Swedish carmaker Volvo Car AB and owns stakes in GermanyÂ’s Mercedes-Benz Group AG and the UKÂ’s Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings Plc. Deutsche Bank AG advised Lotus Tech on the deal, while Credit Suisse Group AG acted as capital markets adviser to the SPAC.
