History:

This is car #002 of 100 anniversary edition models in 2002 which was the year the body style was updated to include the round tail lights. This particular car was on the floor at the at the 2002 LA Motor Show and can be seen in these independent links which I viewed before buying the car:

http://www.edmunds.com/lotus/esprit/2002/?sub=coupe&ps=used

The car was originally sold by Symbolic in La Jolla and then sold privately to a buyer in Salt Lake City. I purchased it from the second owner in SLC in Sept 2011 with approx. 15,000 miles on it and the car has been garage-kept in Phoenix since. I had a few routine maintenance service items done at the time of purchase at the Ferrari Lotus dealer in SLC (alignment, oil change, and a sweating rear axle seal) and then shipped the car to Phoenix. It has been looked after at the local dealer since.

As Anniversary Edition cars go, this is a rare find, low number car. I believe that there are 7 cars of this color in the 100 car production run.

Interior Condition:

There are not rips or tears in the leather seats or dash. There is a leather scratch about 1/2 inch long on the driver's seat (from a pant button) and the yellow trim piping on the driver bolster has a 1.5 inch separation. The plastic piping gets very soft in the heat and it separated as I got into the car. Yo won't notice it unless you're looking for it. There is an after-market stereo put in by the previous owner with a satellite radio antenna wired in. The factory stereo is included. The car came with Anniversary Edition mats with color matched embroidery. I haven't seen these in any other Anniversary Edition. The carpeting is in excellent condition except one small patch to the rear of the passenger seat where it looks like it was rubbed off but I bought it that way and I'm not sure what caused it (pictured). I'm not a smoker and I am almost certain that the car has always been smoke-free as there's no trace of it.

Exterior Condition:

There are stone blemishes on the front end and a couple of stone nicks in the windshield. The ones in the windshield were there when I bought it and are not the star-shaped ones that would spread. There is a paint chip on the neck of each side mirror (pictured). There is some hardened residue about 2 inches long in a streak that is stuck to the lower passenger door. (pictured) The dealer thought it may have been hardened shipping wax but I'm not certain. I did not want to try removing it with any chemical solvent myself. The paint on the underside of the RF fender lip is damaged from running over a piece of re-tread on the freeway (pictured). You can't see it unless you're looking from the underside of the car. There is a small nick on the lip of one of the rims. This car has not been in an accident nor has it had any paintwork or repair.

Maintenance:

I purchased new Falken tires all around when I bought the vehicle so they have approx 3300 miles  on them. Falken and Continental are the only two that make a match set of four for this car's different front and rear sizes. The battery and alternator were replaced in 2012, both fuel pumps in 2013 (one was failing), the thermostat earlier this year, and the rear hatch release cable earlier this year. The car came with aftermarket cats from JAE as factory cats are no longer available. The car is seldom driven and is kept on a battery tender. At about 80mph, there's a slight vibration from the front so I suspect a wheel balancing is needed.

I am fanatical about my cars. This hasn't been parked all day in the sun, I don't use it to get groceries where shopping carts might hit it, and I don't park it anywhere other than next to a curb because I don't want door dents. I have meticulously maintained this car.

Ancillary Items Included:

Both keys and remote fobs, the owners manual, the color-matched hardtop, the factory stereo, the two-piece color-matched air dam (not pictured), and the rubber air dam skirt air included. The air dam pieces have never been mounted. it is missing the glass top fabric pouch that originally came with the vehicle. The previous owner did not have it.

Driving:

This car is a pleasure to drive. It's smooth through all the gears, incredibly fast, and tight-cornering.  Be prepared to be photographed as someone is always taking a picture of it while in traffic!

Reason for Selling:

I drive the car very infrequently and want to replace it with something that has electronic shifters. While I like a manual gearbox, I'm leaning to the electronic shifters more and more. It'll be hard to part with this as it an exceptionally exhilarating ride.

Shipping:

I'm happy to help with any buyer-paid shipping.

Lotus F1 Team promotes Joylon Palmer for next season

Mon, Oct 26 2015

After letting its longtime protege Romain Grosjean go to the Haas F1 team, Lotus has named his successor for next season. Driving for the team as it transitions back to being the Renault factory outfit will be one Jolyon Palmer, the current reigning GP2 champion and possibly one of the best-poised drivers to make it into Formula One. The 24-year-old Brit has been steadily working his way up the formula racing ladder, winning races in Formula Two and GP2 over the past several years before winning the latter title last season. During that victorious campaign he also served as a test driver for Force India, before switching to Lotus this season and getting 10 grand prix practice sessions under his harness. Jolyon's own experience undoubtedly sealed the deal, but his upbringing surely put him in a prime position to make it in single-seater racing. He's the son of former F1 driver Jonathan Palmer, himself a past Formula Two champ before completing half a dozen seasons in Formula One. It's what the elder Palmer's been up to since leaving the grid, however, that's put the son in such a strong position. As head of MotorSport Vision, Jonathan Palmer controls five major racing tracks across the UK – including BrandsHatch, Outlton Park, Snetterton, Cadwell Park and the Bedford Autodrome. He also runs a couple of trackday programs, founded the now-defunct Formula Palmer Audi series and continues to operate the FIA Formula Two Championship, the BRDC Formula 4 Championship, and the British Superbike Championship. All of which gave young Jolyon plenty of room to run as he developed his career. Will that be enough to put the young Palmer in a position to win next season? Only time will tell. But he arrives at a pivotal time for the team, which is expected to transition back from the privately held Lotus operation to Renault's hands, running once again as the factory team – but saddled with an engine package that has been underperforming against the competition. One way or another, it ought to be an interesting time to be in Enstone. Related Video:

Lotus Evora, Exige, and Elise add lightness to Geneva

Thu, Mar 3 2016

The folks at Lotus have been quite busy over the past few months adding lightness to their vehicles. Since December, the company has introduced lighter, quicker versions of the Evora, Exige, and Elise, and all three members of the trio are present at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Each one is special in its own way, but if you crave a nimble sports car, you probably wouldn't be disappointed with any of these new models. The Evora Sport 410 is the most luxurious member of the bunch, at least by Lotus standards. At 2,921 pounds, it's also the heaviest, but a 410-horsepower 3.5-liter supercharged V6 makes this one the most powerful, too. The coupe can rocket to 60 miles per hour in 3.9 seconds and to a 186-mph top speed. Lotus will make just 150 of these special Evoras per year, and they'll have carbon fiber parts for the roof, tailgate, sports seats, and more. Best of all, this will be the only one of these three that will get a North American version. The Exige Sport 350 Roadster is the coolest member of this group, featuring tartan seats that we absolutely love. It's also the quickest of the three, reaching 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds, and it tops out at 170 mph. The rapid sprint is possible because the 345-hp 3.5-liter supercharged V6 only needs to push 2,480 pounds. The Elise Cup 250 rounds out the group with the lightest weight at 2,053 pounds (2,030 pounds with the optional Carbon Aero Package) but the least power at 243 hp. However, it certainly isn't slow with a 60-mph run in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 154 mph. Lotus plans to make just 200 of them year each year. If you could pick any one of the three, which would you choose? The Evora might be the most livable every day but chucking around the Elise could be a barrel of fun. There're also those fantastic seats in the Exige. Let us know in Comments which one you want the most.

Lotus recalling certain 2011 Evora S models for possible oil leak, fire

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

Last year about 80 examples of the 2011 Lotus Evora S were recalled over an issue with the oil feed pipe. The same number of 2011 Evora S', but with different manufacture dates, are back in the recall box again for a very similar issue; this time it's the engine oil cooler hose that could rupture and spray oil either onto the rear wheels or a hot engine part. Neither of those cases is good, and the latter could potentially lead to a fire.
Lotus is working on a solution, so a recall date hasn't been announced. The bulletin below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has more information.
