Blue 1986 Lotus Turbo Espirit HCI (High Compression Injection) is a beautiful
example of the iconic British exotic car.
This classic Lotus features a dark blue leather interior and is in a
very good condition. In 1986,
only 454 Turbo Espirits were produced, (According to research) making this a
truly rare car. If you appreciate the stunning and dramatic lines that Guigiaro
penned, then this is the car for you. In addition, this car has only been driven approximately
50,000 miles. Car also features a built in Cobra radar

car is equipped with air conditioning but it needs a charge. -
Very
minor cosmetic wear on the exterior, (not unusual for a car that has been
driven) the paint has some blemishes. -
The
interior is good and original but the back of the driver’s side is a little
worn. -

the automotive press, “The Espirit is a wonderful example of form
and function. The Lotus Espirit was an amazing vehicle. Its aerodynamic design,
lightweight material, advanced technology and potent engine made the vehicle a
success and attributed to its nearly thirty years of production.” In March
1986, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Turbo HCPI (HC = High Compression, with
petrol injection) was unveiled. The compression ratio had been increased to
8.0:1, maximum boost pressure was up, and not only was this the first Lotus to
use injection – the familiar Bosch K – jetronic layout – but it also had a
catalytic convertor in the exhaust system. The packaging engineers had done
their best to make the cockpit more roomy, the seats had been widened and
lowered while the footwell area had been enlarged. Not only was the engine more
powerful and more torquey than before but the chassis had been improved with
wider section tires (195/60s at the front, 235/60s at the rear). While there
was a new front spoiler and a larger radiator intake. To drill home the
message, this car also had HCPI decals. The ‘Rest of the World’ derivative of
this car, titled Espirit Turbo HC, was put on sale in October 1986. It shared
the same high compression head of HCPI, but retained its Dellorto carburetors
and was not fitted with a catalyst. Like changes made to the normally –
aspirated Espirit at the same time, the latest HC also had an uprated cooling
system and adjustable rack seats. It was a more expensive car than before -
?24,980, which was an increase of ?1,540 on the original type. Compared with
the earlier turbo there had been a 10% torque increase, which made an immediate
and obvious difference to the performance. When Autocar tested the car in 1987,
it was summarized as “in many areas …. A very practical supercar
…. A remarkably satisfying device with which to cover long distances quickly. But
with many less expensive sports cars offering similar performance, the Lotus
begins to look a little less attractive than it did three years ago. The same
cannot be said for its styling, however, which remains truly exotic.” Any

Elon Musk buys James Bond's Lotus submarine, wants to install Tesla powerplant
Fri, 18 Oct 2013Remember when we reported the long-lost-but-found-again Lotus Esprit submarine used in the James Bond film The Spy Who Loved Me had sold at auction in London for $966,560 (well, $863,000 plus a 12-percent buyer's premium)? At the time, the buyer's identity remained a mystery, but Jalopnik has reported and confirmed that the man with money to burn is none other than billionaire Elon Musk, CEO of both Tesla Motors and SpaceX. What's even more shocking (maybe not for Musk) is that he wants to install a Tesla electric powertrain in it and make it transform into a road-going car.
The story of the submersible Lotus' journey from movie star to prized possession of the eccentric Musk is remarkable. After filming ended in the '70s, the car was shipped to Long Island, NY and placed in a storage container that was paid in advance by the studio for 10 years. After the money ran out, the contents of the container were sold off Storage Wars-style in 1989 and won by an area couple. It was shown in public on occasion throughout the years, but its value remained a mystery until the gavel fell in London last month. While far from the most valuable Bond car to be auctioned off (that honor goes to the Aston Martin DB5 used in Goldfinger and Thunderball, which sold for $4.6 million at auction in 2010), the Lotus submarine is definitely the most unique.
Also worth noting is that the Lotus sub is more than just a prop. Without the aid of CGI, the film's producers needed an actual submarine that looked like a Lotus Esprit, and so they hired a company called Perry Oceanographic in Florida to build it and hired former US Navy Seal Don Griffin to pilot the sub during the film.
Lotus Cars, Williams Advanced Engineering announce technical partnership
Mon, Jan 28 2019Sports car company Lotus announced a technology development partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering, more commonly referred to simply as Williams. Lotus says the partnership will be specifically focused on propulsion systems. And this has us very excited. Lotus doesn't need much introduction; it makes ultralight and spectacular handling sports cars. Williams is a bit more obscure, but it works on some of the coolest vehicles in the world. For decades the company has participated in Formula 1, and still has a team competing. It developed a wild 500-horsepower flat-six engine for Singer, and it worked with Jaguar on the C-X75 concept car and made stunt versions for the James Bond movie "Spectre." The company even has electric car experience with four seasons of Formula E and development work on the Aston Martin Rapide E on its prodigious resume. The subtext of these various Williams projects is that we could see almost any kind of powertrain show up in Lotus sports cars in the future. The companies could have some high-revving, high-output internal combustion engines for the near-term, then they could create electric drivetrains for future Lotus cars. Think first-generation Tesla Roadster but developed by a company with racing experience. Perhaps the two could even create some hybrids in between launches of the two powertrain types. Of course we're speculating, but none of this out of the question considering Williams' capabilities. In fact, since the Formula E experience is specifically highlighted in the Lotus announcement, we bet electric Lotus cars are all but guaranteed. Lotus reveals new LMP1 at Le Mans
Fri, 13 Jun 2014Lotus is at Le Mans this week where it has unveiled its new LMP1. Only it's not racing at Le Mans. And it's not really a Lotus, either.
The prototype belongs to an independent German team that ran a Lotus chassis in the LMP2 category last year, but was granted license by the FIA and ACO to step up to the top-tier LMP1 category to dice it with the front-running hybrids from Audi, Porsche and Toyota this year. Unfortunately, the team - which licenses the Lotus name from the automaker, much as the F1 team does - faced some setbacks. Not the least of those delays resulted from a mid-stream switch in engine suppliers from the Audi-sourced, naturally aspirated V8 it was originally set to use to a new turbocharged V6 from Advanced Engine Research.
As a result it wasn't ready for the Silverstone race that kicked off this season's World Endurance Championship in April. Nor was it ready for the second round at Spa in May or not for the headline event this weekend at Le Mans, but it aims to be on the track at the next round in Austin.
