This Glacier Blue 1986 Lotus Turbo Espirit HCI (High Compression Injection) is a beautiful example of the iconic British exotic car.  This classic Lotus features a dark blue leather interior and is in a very good condition.

In 1986, only 454 Turbo Espirits were produced, (According to research) making this a truly rare car. If you appreciate the stunning and dramatic lines that Guigiaro penned, then this is the car for you. In addition, this car has only been driven approximately 50,000 miles.  Car also features a built in Cobra radar detector (front and back) in case you feel the need for speed. VIN is SCCFC20A5GHF60857.

This fine car has been maintained by RS Motorsports of Closter, NJ who is considered by many to be the premier Lotus mechanic in the North East. Any interested party is welcome to contact him to discuss the car.

This Turbo Espirit HCI is reliable and fast. It has been known to cruise at 120MPH comfortably.

Needs

-        The car is equipped with air conditioning but it needs a charge.

-        Very minor cosmetic wear on the exterior, (not unusual for a car that has been driven) the paint has some blemishes.

-        The interior is good and original but the back of the driver’s side is a little worn.

-        (Please note)>>> The Carfax shows inconsistency of mileage because the speedometer stopped working and the odometer shows 29,000 miles right now but there are actually around 50,000 miles on it. Current Carfax report is available upon request.

According to the automotive press, “The Espirit is a wonderful example of form and function. The Lotus Espirit was an amazing vehicle. Its aerodynamic design, lightweight material, advanced technology and potent engine made the vehicle a success and attributed to its nearly thirty years of production.”

In March 1986, at the Geneva Motor Show, the Turbo HCPI (HC = High Compression, with petrol injection) was unveiled. The compression ratio had been increased to 8.0:1, maximum boost pressure was up, and not only was this the first Lotus to use injection – the familiar Bosch K – jetronic layout – but it also had a catalytic convertor in the exhaust system. The packaging engineers had done their best to make the cockpit more roomy, the seats had been widened and lowered while the footwell area had been enlarged. Not only was the engine more powerful and more torquey than before but the chassis had been improved with wider section tires (195/60s at the front, 235/60s at the rear). While there was a new front spoiler and a larger radiator intake. To drill home the message, this car also had HCPI decals. The ‘Rest of the World’ derivative of this car, titled Espirit Turbo HC, was put on sale in October 1986. It shared the same high compression head of HCPI, but retained its Dellorto carburetors and was not fitted with a catalyst. Like changes made to the normally – aspirated Espirit at the same time, the latest HC also had an uprated cooling system and adjustable rack seats. It was a more expensive car than before - ?24,980, which was an increase of ?1,540 on the original type. Compared with the earlier turbo there had been a 10% torque increase, which made an immediate and obvious difference to the performance. When Autocar tested the car in 1987, it was summarized as “in many areas …. A very practical supercar …. A remarkably satisfying device with which to cover long distances quickly. But with many less expensive sports cars offering similar performance, the Lotus begins to look a little less attractive than it did three years ago. The same cannot be said for its styling, however, which remains truly exotic.”

Lotus won't rule out SUV, but first we'll get a new Elise

Fri, Aug 5 2016

Not even Lotus can ignore the sales potential of SUVs. Speaking to media yesterday, Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales said "The SUV is an interesting market. We're working on a concept but haven't made a decision yet." Lotus has reorganized lately, and is cash flow neutral on a path to future profitability. Put away your pitchforks. Yes, Lotus is the last automaker we'd expect to make an SUV, but nearly every other carmaker has already given up resistance. And we surmise that even a Lotus SUV would follow the Lotus founder Colin Chapman's famous ethos of "Simplify, and add lightness." At least relatively. Or, as Gales put it, "We stick to our roots, because they are enviable roots." That means the new Elise, coming in 2020 and destined for America, will be a lot like the current model sold in other markets. As we reported last week, Gales confirmed that the next Elise will be slightly wider to accommodate side airbags, but otherwise will have similar dimensions and power-to-weight ratio. The Evora 400 Roadster is also still planned, but won't come stateside for at least two years. "Lotus will not fit electrical steering [systems]. They take away the steering feel." And while the SUV ship may sail, there are still a few heretical ideas left in Hethel. In confirming that the Elise will add assisted steering in the next generation, Gales assured us it would be hydraulic. "Lotus will not fit electrical steering [systems]. They take away the steering feel." Also off the table for Lotus is any kind of hybrid. Speaking to Autoblog, Gales explained that hybrid systems adds weight, complexity, and take up space. The first two items go against the core values at Lotus, and the third creates packaging issues. "Besides, when you have low mass it's easy to be efficient," the CEO said. He added that a pure EV might be something Lotus would consider, but not anytime in the near future. Lotus returns to the US this year with the Evora 400. Stay tuned for our first drive review in a couple of days (spoiler alert: the car is awesome). And beyond the Evora convertible and next Elise, Gales says "You will enjoy many more cars from our company." We can't wait.Related Video: Lotus Convertible Coupe SUV Performance lotus evora 400 jean-marc gales lotus evora 400 roadster

Race Recap: 2013 Korean F1 Grand Prix crazy enough for Psy [spoilers]

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

The end of qualifying for the 2013 Korean Formula One Grand Prix left us with five pairs: two chassis each from Infiniti Red Bull Racing, Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Lotus, Ferrari and Sauber. Yes, Sauber. The last time the Swiss team had two drivers in the top ten was Japan last year, when Kamui Kobayashi converted the grid spot into a podium.
But let's start at the front of the top ten, where Sebastian Vettel put his Red Bull on pole for the 42nd time in his career. He was followed by Lewis Hamilton in second place by two-tenths of a second, Mark Webber in the second Infiniti Red Bull, and Romain Grosjean in the Lotus in fourth. Out-qualifying teammate Kimi Räikkönen again, the Finn would line up in tenth. Nico Rosberg put the second Mercedes in fifth, Fernando Alonso got the first Ferrari into sixth ahead of teammate Felipe Massa, while Nico Hülkenberg led with the first Sauber in eighth, teammate Esteban Gutiérrez showing the promise he was hired for (okay, and his money) in ninth. Except they'd all move up a place because Webber had to serve his ten-place grid penalty after getting his third reprimand of the season in Singapore. That would get Sergio Perez in his McLaren into tenth. Yes, McLaren needed a grid demotion ahead to make it into the top ten.
It was an entertaining top ten that no one would have expected. When the red lights went out, we were treated to one of the most entertaining races of the year - it was Gangnam Style at 300 kilometers per hour.

2022 Lotus Emira packages and colors detailed along with European pricing

Mon, Sep 20 2021

Lotus just dropped all the nitty gritty details on the Emira First Edition, and it even provided European pricing. Unfortunately, we’re being told to wait for official U.S. pricing information, but this gives us a general idea of what to expect. WeÂ’ll start this off by letting you know that an Emira First Edition is fully loaded up with options, making it extra expensive. Europeans will be paying ˆ95,995 for the model, and in case youÂ’re in the U.K., your price is GBP75,995. The Euro equivalent is $112,000 at todayÂ’s exchange rates, while the pound sterling equivalent is about $104,000. Without U.S.-specific pricing available yet, itÂ’s impossible to nail down an exact figure. That said, expect it to be around $100,000 or a little more for the Emira First Edition here. Lotus tells us what you get for your First Edition money, too. It specifies that this model is the “V6 First Edition,” because a not-yet-detailed “i4” First Edition is coming late next year to launch the AMG-sourced four-cylinder model. The V6 comes with the six-speed manual transmission standard. It also adds the available 20-inch forged alloy wheels with a diamond-cut two-tone finish and two-piece brake discs with branded calipers. A bunch of optional packages are fitted as standard with the First Edition. You get the Lower Black Pack, which gives you a glossy black paint finish for the front bumper air blades, front splitter, side sills and rear diffuser. The Drivers Pack gives you the choice between the Tour or Sport suspension (Sport is slightly stiffer). Tour comes with Goodyear Eagle F1 Supersport tires, and Sport comes with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. The standard Design Pack adds privacy glass, sports pedals, Lotus-branded floor mats, a black Alcantara headliner and the choice of brake calipers in a few different colors. The Convenience Pack then adds front parking sensors, rain-sensing wipers with aero blades, auto-dimming mirrors and a rear luggage storage set. In Europe, this last pack also adds a reverse camera, but that will be standard equipment in the U.S. by law. You can add even more money to the Emira First EditionÂ’s price by opting for the full Black Pack (an extra GBP1,200 or ˆ1,370). This coats a number of other exterior parts in glossy black paint including the roof, mirrors, Lotus badge and exhaust finisher. Lastly, an automatic transmission is available for GBP1,800 or ˆ2,600, but thatÂ’s one you should skip.
