Rare 1978 Lincoln Mark V Diamond Jubilee Edition With NO RESERVE 400 V8, 108k original miles, under 10k on engine. Rare Diamond Jubilee with Diamond Blue Moondust Metallic paint and Diamond Blue Landau Half-Vinyl Roof. Priced at $20,529, the Diamond Jubilee Edition Mark V's were the most luxurious ever to date by Lincoln in a production car. Options include quarter windows that lower and raise before main window, silver tinted glass power moonroof with sliding shade, color matched aluminum "turbine" wheels, color matched body trim, auto-lamps with auto-dimming, digital "miles to empty" readout, tilt steering wheel, remote trunk release and automatic dimming headlights. Here's a couple of pages describing the features of the 78 Diamond Jubilee: http://automotivemileposts.com/mark51978diamondjubilee.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lincoln_Continental_Mark_V#1978_.22Diamond_Jubilee_Edition.22 Mechanical: The gentleman I purchased the car from had owned it since 1980 and had replaced, refurbished and rebuilt almost everything. I don't use the word "restored" because people use the word differently, especially in reference to luxury classics. I would personally say this is a restored car considering its condition. Over the last five years the car got a full exhaust system from the engine back including resonator (Lincoln is nice and quiet), new disc brake pads all around as well as front rotors, new alternator, new front end parts including ball joints, bushings and front and rear shocks as well as a set of new tires. The a/c has not been retrofitted to modern freon, compressor turns on and system blows cool but could use a charge of R12 if available or a retrofit to modern freon. All the amenities work, AM/FM stereo, the power antenna, the cruise control, the windows (small power vent and main) work perfectly, power seats work in all directions and the headlight doors work properly. The power moonroof and sliding shade work perfectly, no leaks in car washes or heavy rain. The Lincoln has always been obsessively maintained, anything that needed attention has always been addressed. The previous owner repainted the engine compartment and rebuilt the engine while it was out of the car (it did not need a rebuild, the previous owner just loved making the car perfect), the motor has under 10k on it. The previous Mark V I owned had the 460, this 400 is so fresh and well tuned I don't feel a difference in power, on the highway she gets 2-4 better MPG than the 460. The motor is quiet, the transmission shifts smoothly, no noises or leaks from anywhere. Cosmetics: The interior is overall in excellent, show car condition. The previous owner noticed the tops of the back seats were beginning to fray and had the seats repadded and recovered with NOS Ford materials, correct down to the inset design on the buckets seats. The carpet was replaced at the same time in the correct color and style. The door panels, dash display, padded dashboard, headliner and visors are in excellent condition. The center console armrest is a bit faded. About ten years ago the Lincoln got new vinyl on the top and padded trunk area and received a high quality, perfectly color matched paint job as well. The body shop actually had to re-do the pinstripe because it was not an exact match of the original. The underside is perfectly clean, undercoated when new, does not even show surface rust. I know I have photos of the undercarriage, I will try to find them or take new ones before the auction is over. The Lincoln has never had any kind of body repair and the chrome and trim are as nice as the photos show them to be. I've had several Mark V's and this by far is the one that gets the most attention, she's breathtaking in person. I'm always the only one at car shows representing this era of Lincoln style, I get endless questions and requests for photos when at car cruises. She's never been out in the winter or any type of weather, in person it's obvious it's always been meticulously cared for. I do not have the leather bound tool kit or the owner's manual. This is one of those classics that's obviously always been a "Garage Queen". Engine starts easily even after sitting for weeks, the garage floor is always dry when I pull her out. She cruises nicely on the highway, idles perfectly, shifts smoothly, brakes evenly and the suspension is luxurious. Drives overall like classic American cruiser should. The directional/brake/turn signal/headlights work properly, as well as the wipers and horn. I'm only selling the Lincoln due to financial circumstances as you can see from the lack of a reserve price. I'm a big fan of the Mark V's and the Diamond Jubilee is the finest example of this stylish, incredibly well built car. This Mark V is easily the best looking and running classic I've ever owned. It's remarkable how clean the undercarriage is, floors, frame and trunk solid as new, when I first got it my mechanic joked, "Has this car ever been driven?". I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Mark V is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. I can recommend a good door to door auto shipper if you need one. Once again, this is a NO RESERVE auction, the top bidder gets the Lincoln. Rare classic Lincoln which is as much a pleasure to drive as she is to look at. Ford F-150 could be affected by tornado-damaged supplier in S.C.
Wed, Apr 22 2020The disruption caused by a tornado that severely damaged a South Carolina auto-parts plant and killed a contract security guard last week could be felt by more automakers than just Ford and affect more than just its best-selling F-Series pickup, which is due for an update. And there’s still no estimate for when operations might resume at the plant. The Detroit Free Press reports that the BorgWarner plant in Seneca, near Greenville, makes transfer cases for F-150 and Super Duty pickups, the Ford Explorer and Expedition, Transit cargo vans, and Lincoln Navigator and Aviator SUVs. ItÂ’s also a supplier for the Ram 1500 and Toyota Tundra trucks. Transfer cases shift power from the transmission to the front and rear axles in four-wheel-drive vehicles. BorgWarner says it still has no update for when it might partially or fully resume operations. The tornado that ripped through the area in the western part of the state on April 13 tore the roof, walls and signage off the factory and killed a 77-year-old contract worker when the security building he was sheltering in collapsed. Only four or five others were inside the plant, which has been idled because of the coronavirus outbreak, when the tornado struck. In an SEC filing on Friday, Ford said it has sent employees to the site to help BorgWarner and assess the damage to FordÂ’s tooling. “Initial assessments indicate that the Ford tooling was not materially damaged in this incident,” Ford said in the filing. “We do not have sufficient information to estimate when the facility will be back on-line or whether or the extent to which this incident will impact our plans to resume production of four-wheel drive and all-wheel drive vehicles.” A Fiat Chrysler spokeswoman also told the Freep the company was working with BorgWarner on recovery plans. A Toyota spokesman told Autoblog that "we are collaborating with BorgWarner to help restore production for transfer cases for Tundra assembly. We are confident that theyÂ’ll fully recover over time." Like other automakers, Ford shut down production at its U.S. plants last month as a precaution against the coronavirus pandemic. But Ford hasnÂ’t yet said when it plans to reopen its factories. FCA is targeting May 4 to resume production. Models like the F-150 and Lincoln Navigator are major sources of profit for Ford, which estimated it lost $2 billion in the first quarter.
Ford and Lincoln recall about 170,000 vehicles over defective rear-view camera
Wed, Sep 6 2023Ford and Lincoln have jointly issued a safety recall that includes nearly 170,000 vans and SUVs built between the 2018 and 2023 model years. The vehicles included in the campaign are equipped with a rear-view camera whose image can cut out while the driver is backing up. Assigned recall number 23V-598 by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the campaign includes the following cars: 7,649 units of the 2020-2023 Aviator fitted with the standard rear-view camera and built from October 19, 2019, to August 17, 2023. 70,600 units of the 2018-2021 Navigator fitted with the 360-degree camera and built from March 16, 2017, to December 23, 2021. 66,740 units of the 2022-2023 Transit fitted with either camera system and built from February 26, 2021, to August 17, 2023. 24,468 units of the 2021 Bronco fitted with the 360-degree camera and built from September 23, 2020, to December 22, 2021. Ford explains that the defect is present in all of the 169,277 vehicles included in the campaign. While these are different cars equipped with different technology, they all suffer from the same problem. The company explains that "customers may intermittently experience either a rear camera blue image or a full blue or black image on the SYNC [infotainment system] screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse, or when the 360-degree view is selected and available." It adds that losing the camera's image while backing up increases the risk of the crash. The cause of the problem varies from model to model. Ford has narrowed it down to the camera hardware, the wiring retention, and the Image Processing Module - V (IPMB) software. It adds that "fretting corrosion causes tin oxide formation on the internal camera connector due to [a] thermally-induced micro-movement between the tin-plated contact surfaces," and that the rate of tin oxide accumulation depends on factors such as the temperature and the humidity. It has also traced some of these issues to a problem during the manufacturing process. Ford will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles by mail on October 2. When parts are available, owners will be asked to bring their van or SUV to an authorized dealer so that a technician can replace the rear-view camera. Transit models included in the campaign will also receive a software update. Owners who have already paid to fix the problem can claim a reimbursement until June 30, 2024. This isn't Ford's first rear-view camera-related recall.
Most reliable cars and trucks of 2022
Tue, Nov 15 2022Related: Least reliable cars and trucks of 2022  For years now, Consumer Reports has been one of the most prolific sources of vehicle reliability data around. The organization tests a number of vehicles each year and surveys its members on various automotive topics, including reliability. The results of its 2022 annual auto survey are in, and the list of most reliable vehicles has been revealed. Unsurprisingly, Toyota and Lexus dominated the list of most reliable vehicles, but BMW and Mini snuck into the top 10 as well. The list includes: Toyota Corolla Hybrid: 93 Lexus GX: 91 Mini Cooper: 89 Toyota Prius: 89 Mazda MX-5 Miata: 85 Lincoln Corsair: 82 Toyota Corolla: 81 Subaru Crosstrek: 80 BMW 3 Series: 80 Toyota Prius Prime: 77 In terms of the most reliable vehicle type, Consumer Reports says that sedans remain the best choice. Their average score is 58, which is notably better than SUVs’ average score of 51. Minivans and pickup trucks are lower, at 44 and 39, respectively. As Consumer Reports notes, many sedans are older models that have allowed their manufacturers to iron out the wrinkles, making them more reliable. Domestic automakers' SUVs and trucks performed better in the survey than their imported counterparts, with scores of 45 and 41, respectively. The study also showed that hybrids and plug-in hybrids are becoming more reliable, and have climbed the score ladder to the tops of their segments in many cases. Consumer Reports says its study includes 17 trouble areas, including small stuff like creaks and rattles and much larger problems like drivetrain failures. The organization states that it weights each issue based on its severity to create its predicted reliability scores, with 100 being the best. A car must be in production for at least two model years to be considered for the list.
