1978 Lincoln Mark V Up for Auction With NO RESERVE

81K original miles, 460 V8. Rare color combination with burgundy vinyl quarter top and burgundy padded trunk. Options include power moonroof, functional "miles to empty" digital display (a pretty expensive option in 1978), AM/FM cassette player, tilt steering wheel and remote trunk release. I am the the second owner, I have the original owner's warranty card as seen in the photo.

Mechanical: I have done a handful of things and they sure do add up. The major things I've done were a new radiator and full exhaust system, the Lincoln is remarkably quiet considering the size of the engine. I've also done a full tuneup, new disc brake pads all around, new front rotors, and had the a/c charged up last spring. The previous owner replaced the compressor and retrofitted the a/c to modern freon. I've fixed alot of smaller things; I got the cruise control working, fixed the headlight doors (which would stay open, now they close when the headlights are off) and fixed the horn. The a/c worked great all summer but seemed to need a charge by September. The steering has begun to feel a bit loose, my mechanic told me it's the "rag joint", about an $180 job. The Lincoln appears high in the back because the air shocks were over-inflated when I took the pix. I've had a few Lincoln Mark V's and this one is by far runs the best. It's very quiet and when you're stopped at a light you don't even feel the engine.

Cosmetics: the interior is very nice, the burgundy leather is original and showing some age cracking in the driver's seat as seen in the pix. Otherwise everything inside is in great shape, the dash, door panels, carpet, headliner, visors and moonroof shade are close to perfect. Window motors, headlight doors, and power moonroof work perfectly. The original Ford AM/FM cassette player works properly as well as the power antenna. The clock does not work but I am including an entire replacement dash cluster with a working clock that I bought on Ebay ($270). It's not hard to swap out the clock, I just haven't gotten around to it. The moonroof does not leak at all, even in heavy rain or a car wash. The moonroof is huge, almost feels like a convertible when you've got it fully open. The previous owner tinted the windows; it looks nice with the white paint but is nicked in a few spots. The weatherstripping around the windows and in the trunk was replaced by the previous owner. When you're on the highway with the windows up you can't hear any road noise, it's nice and quiet inside. The paint is original but is still very presentable as seen in the pix. Some slight bubbling in the paint in a couple of spots, only visible up close. The vinyl on the roof and trunk are pretty good, the padded trunk vinyl is showing some age but I've kept it garaged and applied Armor All and it's held up well. The body is very straight, never hit or had any bodywork anywhere, the doors close easily (the last Mark V I had required a really hard slam or the doors would only partly latch) and the bumpers are shiny, no dents or peeling anywhere. Everything lines up perfectly on this car, which is great on a car with such straight body lines.

She is a total blast to drive! The power from the 460 V8 is a pleasure, the last Mark I had came with the 400 V8 and the difference between the 400 and the 460 is substantial. Cruises nicely on the highway and brakes evenly with the four wheel disc brakes. She starts on the first try even in cold weather, idles perfectly and the suspension is luxurious. Drives overall like an American classic luxury cruiser should. No leaks from anywhere, garage floor always dry when I pull her out. I'm only selling the Lincoln due to financial constraints, I've got a lot of money invested in the car. I hope to find her a good home.

I reserve the right to end the auction early as the Lincoln is for sale locally and I'm open to reasonable buy it now offers as well. I can assist with shipping in the USA or internationally if necessary, cost of shipping to paid by buyer. If you need it I can recommend a door to door auto shipper I've used many times in the past; they're professional, reliable and have great rates. This is a NO RESERVE auction, top bidder gets her!

Classic Lincoln which will only appreciate in value! Any questions feel free to call or email. 914-224-3230

2022 Lincoln Corsair starts at $37,300

Tue, Jan 18 2022

A week ago, we posted on price increases and reductions Ford applied to the 2022 Escape. Ford Authority reveals that automaker money men have been working similar equations on MSRPs for the Escape's platform mate, the 2022 Lincoln Corsair. Similar to what was done with the Escape, the Corsair sees a small increase on one of the lower trims and reductions on the upper trims. The discounts are offset slightly by the destination charge going up by $100, from $1,095 to $1,195. The entry-level, front-wheel-drive Corsair only goes up by that higher destination charge, its MSRP sticking at $36,105 and coming to $37,300 after destination. Sending power to the rear wheels raises the price by $200, half of that in the MSRP, totaling $39,600.    The Corsair Reserve with front-wheel drive comes down by $2,125, to $42,020. Opting for all-wheel drive shaves the discount a tad to $2,025, for a total of $44,320. This is no freebie, the reduction coming thanks to product planners removing the 14-speaker Reveal Audio System from the list of standard equipment. Putting that stereo back into the Reveal will cost $3,300, but that price is the result of combining options packages so it does include extra equipment. Audiophiles need to choose the Luxury Package, which costs $2,200; however, in order to get the Luxury, they'll also need to choose the $1,100 Elements package, a cold-weather group with features like a heated steering wheel and seats, and windshield wiper de-icer.    Note, at the time of writing, the Corsair Reserve configurator is a little confusing. It still lists the "Revel Audio System with 14-Speakers including Subwoofer" as standard under the Radio Type tab. Under Audio Upgrade, it lists "Lincoln Premium Audio System with 14-Speakers Including Subwoofer," and wants to charge $3,300 for that. This is backward. The Lincoln Premium Audio is a 10-speaker system, and it's the one that comes standard in 2022.  The Corsair Grand Touring, which only comes with all-wheel drive, drops $60 on MSRP but overall climbs by $40 with the destination charge, to $51,525. The Corsair, like the Escape, is due for a refresh for the 2023 model year that could bring a new powertrain besides the expected interior revisions. A brand new Escape/Corsair duo has been predicted for 2025. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.

Ford Explorer problems gutted third-quarter sales

Tue, Oct 22 2019

In early September, the Detroit Free Press published a feature noting numerous problems Ford's having with the 2020 Explorer and 2020 Lincoln Aviator launches. Issues with both SUVs, built at Ford's Chicago Assembly Plant, were so rife and dire that the automaker was trucking the vehicles 275 miles away to Michigan for repairs. Bloomberg reported earlier this month that Explorer's third-quarter sales dropped 48 percent compared to the previous model in 2018, with dealers unable to get enough units on lots for customers. Nor is the snafu over: Automotive News reports that another "batch of about 2,500 Explorers in need of repairs" arrived recently in Michigan, and sales through the first nine months of 2019 are down 31 percent. Sales dips during model changeovers are to be expected as old inventory gets sold down and new production ramps up, but this is different. Ford U.S. sales boss Mark LaNeve told Bloomberg earlier this month, "We’ve got adequate inventory in our stores. For Q4, availability wonÂ’t be an issue. WeÂ’ll be able to hit our stride with Explorer starting now." It's hard to know whether that's true, with thousands of Explorers still piling into Michigan; the batch AN mentioned represents about 5 days of sales during an average month in 2018, before the drawdown and interruptions hampered matters. And when Consumer Reports tested the Ford Explorer it bought this summer, it titled the review, "2020 Ford Explorer drives nicely but has many flaws / Poor interior quality and a high price overshadow the SUV's improvements."   On top of that, the AN piece mentions a new impediment to uncorking the Explorer sales stream: Worker strife in the Chicago plant. Allegedly, "Roving groups of workers are intimidating other employees, creating a hostile environment, the people said. ThatÂ’s driving up turnover and leaving some vehicle assembly unfinished, contributing to the company having to complete the work at the Michigan factory or at dealerships, the people said." Ford's been fined twice before for the same kinds of issues at its plants, once in 1999, again in 2017, but a spokesperson said Ford isn't aware of any such problems now. The pressure otherwise has got to be unpleasant for everyone on the Explorer team, from CEO Jim Hackett down. The automaker was meant to be "turning the corner" in April, but as of now, shares are down, credit rating is down, earnings are down.
