1978 Lincoln Mark V St. Tropez

This automobile is truly a remarkable vehicle.  It is a custom convertible, with coach work by American Custom Coachworks of Beverly Hills, California.  It is not known how rare this vehicle is, but we have seen claims that no more than ten like this were made by ACC in 1978.  It is a ‘certified custom’ by the Lincoln and Continental Owners Association, which means it was ordered by a Lincoln dealer from the Ford Motor Company to be sold at the dealership.  The car was ordered sold new by the Bob Sight Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Kansas City.  It is believed to have sold for approximately $40,000 when new.

The car has had one repaint, by Ortloff Brothers Restorations of Helena, Montana.  It was repainted exactly as it came from ACC in 1978, including the hand-painted pin-striping to match the unique original pin-striping.  Documentation of all of this will go with the car.    The repaint was done in 1993, and still looks very good, with only a few very minor blemishes during the past 20 years.  It is dark champagne and gold metallic two-tone, and is a striking look.  The car is rust free.

The car has all power equipment, and cold air conditioning.  It has near new tires, and polished alloy wheels.  The interior is a tan leather, and is original, although it has been professionally re-dyed.  The carpet is original and is still new looking, and has the original Lincoln floor mats.  The original boot to be used when the top is down is very presentable.  The top looks new, and was replaced by the previous owner.

The car was featured on the back cover of the Lincoln and Continental Owners magazine in 2005,and on an interior page in 2009.  It has been shown in car shows, and has won a number of trophies.  The car currently has 78,000 miles since new, and runs and drives beautifully.

The current owners are elderly and are downsizing their collection.  If you are looking for a car that will continue to draw attention, and grow in value over the years, this car is well worth a look.  Call the owners at 409-771-0333 or 409-771-3037 for more information.  Inspections are invited.  The car is in Texas.  It is being advertised in national magazines, so is subject to prior sale.

Lincoln MKX Concept goes for the gold in Beijing

Sun, 20 Apr 2014

We've now seen the Lincoln MKX Concept in the metal, and we've shot it with the lenses of our own DSLR cameras. And we have to say, our opinion of the concept's design language has improved over our initial reaction. Yes, it's clear that this MKX shares its underpinnings with those of the Ford Edge Concept that we saw in LA, but the changes made by Lincoln stylists are a welcome departure from the angular lines of its corporate cousin from The Blue Oval.
We like the subtlety of the MKX Concept's front fascia, and the lighting elements both front and rear lend a luxurious quality to the crossover's typical two-box proportions. When combined with the smaller MKC that was shown in production form late last year, it's clear to see that Lincoln has a specific design direction that at least seems visually capable of setting it apart from the Ford models with which the brand shares its platforms. Here's hoping there are some Lincoln-specific upgrades underhood...
Have a look at our image gallery of live photos from Beijing above, reread the press release below, and feel free to let us know what you think.

2020 Lincoln Navigator gets a price bump as sales stay strong

Mon, Mar 2 2020

The Lincoln Navigator is still doing the business on dealer lots, and as sales climb, so do the prices. CarsDirect reports the flagship SUV's MSRP has gone up again as of February, a letter to dealers explaining that the bump "continues to keep the Lincoln brand competitive and aggressively positioned verses [sic] our key competitors." The entry-level Navigator Standard will start at $76,185 before the $1,295 destination charge, for a total of $77,480. That's $360 more than the luxury flagship cost in January. At the high end, the Navigator L Black Series goes up to $101,630 after destination, a $365 bump. This revised pricing makes the two-wheel drive Navigator Standard $1,000 more expensive than the current, outgoing Escalade, and the Navigator L Black Series $2,040 more than the Escalade ESV Platinum 4WD. It's likely the price jumps coming with the next-generation Escalade should restore the balance.   That won't change the fact that, on the face of it, the Navigator's entry-level price has risen by roughly $3,500 since it launched for the 2018 model year, and that's after an $8,500 increase introduced with the current generation. Last year, the product planners added features and a trim reorganization along with the price increases for 2020. Buyers get convenience items such as power running boards, heated and cooled front seats, wireless phone charging, and Lincoln's Phone as Key system standard throughout the range, and every 2020 Navigator includes the CoPilot360 driver safety suite. The safety kit wasn't available on the 2019 Navigator Standard, and was a $2,640 option on the Select trim. On top of that, the Reserve trim dropped in price thanks to the addition of a two-wheel-drive version. The Navigator improved sales in 2019 by 817 units over 2018. If sales remain robust this year — and depending on where the Escalade lands on the MSRP chart — we won't be surprised at another increase before the year is out. Related Video:

NHTSA upgrades Ford floor mat unintended acceleration probe

Mon, 17 Dec 2012

According to a Bloomberg report, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has upgraded an investigation into complaints of unintended acceleration lodged against Ford vehicles. The investigation began in June of 2010 when just three complaints had been received and it only concerned the Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan, but this was at a time when the phrase "unintended acceleration" made grown men go pale. With 49 additional complaints received since then, the investigation has been reclassified as an engineering analysis - the last phase before a recall - and it has been expanded to include the Lincoln MKZ, making for a total of "around 480,000" units affected between the three sedans from the 2008 to 2010 model years.
The ostensible cause is that floor mats are trapping the accelerator pedal, but according to a Ford statement at the time, the entrapment is due to owners placing the optional all-weather floor mats, or aftermarket floor mats, on top of the car's standard floor mats. NHTSA has backed up that assessment, pinning the blame on "unsecured or double stacked floor mats."
On the face of it, it would appear that NHTSA has upgraded the status not because of Ford's error, but owner error, and Ford has stated publicly that it is "disappointed" in NHTSA's move. On top of NHTSA still being skittish after that other unintended acceleration debacle, it could be seen to be taking its time investigating all of the variables: it's reported that Ford changed its accelerator pedal design in 2010, a "heel blocker" in the floorpan has been considered a potential culprit in how the floor mats could be trapping the pedal, some drivers have said the floor mats weren't anywhere near the pedal, and according to a report in the LA Times, in "a letter sent by Ford to NHTSA in August 2010, the automaker said it found three injuries and one fatality that 'may have resulted from the alleged defect.'"
