1966 Lincoln Continental Convertible

This is the one you've been waiting for!  Suicide doors.  Classic luxury and muscle combined.  This car has everything!

Don't hesitate and miss the chance to own your dream car.  You don't cant find these cars in this condition.  This was top of the line in it's day with power windows, power locks, 8-way power seat , power antenna, power brakes (disk), power steering, A/C and cruise control.  Yes, cruise control on a 66... and it works!   I restore classics for a living and have sold several on ebay with 100% feedback, but this is different.  This is my baby, titled and registered in my name.  I never thought I'd let it go.  I've had a hundred people ask me to buy it and I've always declined.  Well, here's your chance.  I drive this car at least a few times a week and it never gives me any problems.  It rides like it's floating on a cloud.  The 462 cu in engine is super strong, yet surprisingly quiet.  They had four mufflers from the factory so you couldn't hear the engine to give it a more luxury feel.  When you're cruising with the top down all you hear is the wind and the compliments.  If you know anything about these cars, or are looking to buy one, make sure everything works, because it can cost thousands just to get all the windows working, and more for the top.  This one has been gone through by an old Lincoln expert.  The top goes up and down quickly and quietly for this model.  All the power windows go up and down.  The switches work even though a couple are missing the tips of the switch as is common.  Even the vent windows are power, which always catches people off guard.  I installed a nifty remote to control the convertible top from up to 100 yards away.  See second video.  This is my favorite feature, and it draws a crowd every time I use it.  Don't be like everyone else with a Mustang Chevy.  Really stand out with this rare classic.  I have been lucky enough to own just about every classic you can think of and this one gets far more attention than any other.  It was made for cruising so you can actually drive it on the highway and long distances with ease and comfort.  The A/C blows ice cold so even here in Florida I'm always comfortable.  The heater works as well.  It was recently painted an elegant pearl white that is perfect for this style of car.  The maroon interior is in exceptionally good condition.  All the gauges work as they should.  All the lights and blinkers work.  The cruise control works.  The power seat works as it should.  No cracks on the dash.  Brand new carpet.  All of the chrome is in fantastic condition with the exception of a small section of the rear bumper.  All of the stainless trim is in nearly perfect condition, which is extremely rare to find.  The vinyl top is in great condition with one small rip in the bottom left corner.  The tires have over 80% tread and the wheel covers are in great shape.  The radio works, but it's the original so only AM.  Like all cars, this one isn't perfect, but it's close enough for me.  I've added two videos and as many pictures as I could to represent the car accurately.  Since the video I added "gangster white walls" which can be included with the car if the winning bidder wants.  All of the videos and pictures were taken last week with my cell phone and were not photoshopped or enhanced in any way.  I have set the reserve low and no buy it now, so good luck bidding.  This is a very rare opportunity to own a very rare piece of history and a real gem.  I'm sure I'm leaving a lot out, so feel free to email me with any questions.  I also encourage anyone interested to come see it in person and drive it.  Just prepare to fall in love.  Speaking of, I reserve the right to end this auction any time because anyone who sees it is going to buy it on the spot.  Feel free to call, come by, or email with serious offers.  I will not end the auction until cash is in hand.  Thanks for looking, and good luck bidding!

Thanks for looking, and Good luck!

Weekly Recap: An '80s encore in the auto world

Sat, Jul 11 2015

The '80s returned in a big way this week, as National Lampoon's, Ghostbusters, Miami Vice, and even Tetris were back in the news. While there were far more serious topics (see below), nostalgia mingled with modern marketing to put these Reagan-era favorites back in the spotlight. The '80s were alternately cold and corny at times, but their cultural touchstones can still generate big money. That's why Infiniti recreated an iconic scene from National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) for an advertisement that hawks the QX60 crossover. Actor Ethan Embry, who played Rusty Griswold in a later Lampoon's movie, pilots the Infiniti – which is serving as a modern Family Truckster – for a trip to Walley World. A blonde pulls alongside in a red Lamborghini. They flirt, and she drives on. Christie Brinkley, who played the original girl in the red sports car (she drove a Ferrari in the '83 flick), is riding shotgun and chides Embry with: "A blonde. In a convertible. Seriously?" Okay, it's hardly on the level of "here's looking at you," or even "you can't handle the truth," but it should resonate with '80s babies, many of whom are now having children of their own and moving into three-row SUVs like the QX60. Naturally, Hollywood is going back to the well, too, with a Vacation remake that premiers July 29. Meanwhile, Ghostbusters is returning next year, and director Paul Feig offered a peak at the new Eco-1 in this tweet. In the 1984 classic, the team drove a modified 1959 Cadillac. Now, it will drive a late '80s Cadillac. As expected, the announcement generated support and controversy from movie and car enthusiasts. His tweet had generated several thousand retweets and favorites in the days following the news. Though the '80s Caddy looks, uh, less elegant in comparison to the now-iconic fins and curves of the original Ecto-1, it's about the same time lapse into the past as the '59 Caddy was to viewers in 1984. Speaking of 1984, Miami Vice, which debuted that year on NBC, is seeing one of its hero cars hit the auction block, Mecum Auctions announced this week. The 1986 Ferrari used on the show will be offered for sale Aug. 15 during Monterey classic car week. The white supercar runs a 390-hp flat 12-cylinder engine paired with a five-speed manual transmission and was in storage after the show ended in 1989 until earlier this year. It has 16,124 miles on the odometer and is authenticated by Ferrari North America and Classiche.

2017 Lincoln Continental: Was this mic-drop moment just a big flop?

Thu, Jan 21 2016

The Lincoln Continental may have been our fifth-place pick for Best In Show at this year's Detroit Auto Show, but it's probably the one we argued about the most. In fact, we're still talking about it. And we'll no doubt be discussing it long after we finally get to drive the new sedan later this year. We do this with lots of cars, all the time. The Continental is an especially important, high-profile car right now. It has the task of being a torch-holder for the struggling-to-run Lincoln brand, and that's a tough job these days. But did Lincoln do right by its Continental name? Did its Detroit showcar stop us in our tracks, or were we left feeling cold? In an effort to show you our full discussion, we're trying something different. About a week after the Detroit Auto Show press days concluded, Autoblog's Jonathon Ramsey sent an email around to some editors about the Continental to open a discussion. It got heated, and fast. And while we considered summarizing it, we decided to instead post the whole, largely unedited (adjusted for typos and swear words) chain. From: Jonathon Ramsey To: Autoblog Team Does anyone else think it's a problem that the new Continental looks 85 percent like the MKZ? And another 10 percent of it looks like a Jaguar and a Bentley? Because I think Lincoln screwed the pooch. The German Three plus Porsche can make cars that look alike – they've earned the right, even if I'd rather they didn't. The MKZ looks like a car for regional sales reps. Lincoln broke the glass in case of emergency, grabbed the Continental name, then put it on a car that looks a lot like that sales-rep car, but one for regional VPs. Do we really think this can work? Because I don't. From: Steven Ewing To: Autoblog Team Personally, I'm pretty disappointed in the final execution of Continental. I'm glad Lincoln isn't obsessed with chasing the Germans, but at this point, it's not even chasing Cadillac. I think that introducing the new front end and TTV6 engine on the MKZ before the Continental was a huge mistake. And while I have high hopes for the Conti from a comfort/driving standpoint, my gut instinct is that it's going to be more "better than the MKS" than "best American luxury sedan." Introducing the new front end and TTV6 engine on the MKZ before the Continental was a huge mistake.

Lexus ES 350 vs. Lincoln MKZ

Tue, Jun 6 2017

Despite a lineup of well-received crossovers on the Lexus showroom, the midsize Lexus ES 350 four-door continues to appeal to consumers. Many of those customers are older, so you won't see marketing budgets directed toward them; no one, other than the pharmaceutical companies, is spending money marketing to baby boomers. But a midsize, moderately expressive sedan with an easy buying experience and almost coddled ownership still has its fans, and the Lexus ES 350 delivers those attributes in spades. We'd like to say Lincoln's MKZ (pictured above) is hot on the Lexus' heels, but Lincoln's lineup remains a work in progress. The Fusion-based MKZ offers a nice mix of attributes, but Lincoln's dealer count has shrunk, and many Lincoln outlets are located within – or immediately adjacent to – Ford stores. If a Fusion-based Lincoln credibly aspires to Lexus-like attributes, the same won't be said for the Ford showrooms. Here are the offerings: The Lexus ES 350 team has, over the sedan's several variations, worked hard to separate the volume Lexus from Toyota's similar Camry, and in 2017 that separation might actually be quantifiable. To its credit, the ES 350 (pictured at left) comes with but one non-hybrid drivetrain, a 3.5 liter V6 connected to a six-speed automatic driving the front wheels. With it, the ES 350 delivers a motoring experience bordering on the sublime. With the exception of its now-predictable big mouth grille, the balance of the ES sheetmetal is responsibly muted, inoffensive to the eye and should wear well through the typical payment cycle. Access to its moderately upscale interior is easy, and once inside you'll find expansive room (some 100 cubic feet) for four, along with adequate space for the occasional fifth. With a curb weight of just 3,600 pounds, the V6's 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque is responsive, and that's evident in the four-door's 7-second sprint to 60. This isn't a track day or autocross weapon, but if part of your day is a stressful commute, this will make it less so. With a base – albeit well appointed – spec, the ES 350 retails for just under $40,000. We would order ours in Atomic Silver, even if "atomic" seems so last-century. If you can forget – for a minute – the Matthew McConaughey connection, know that Lincoln's MKZ is fully credible as a midsize, mid-fashion sedan. If you like your Fords with more expressive interiors and additional driving refinement, there's a lot to like in Lincoln's MKZ.
