The biggest production car ever made just got customized!!!! The 1958 Lincoln your looking at has had a full transformation to current condition by Acme Rods Inc. a certified shop with over 17 years in the business. Our goal was to retain the original class of this cutting edge for its time luxury automobile, while bringing it into the 21st century. To change the attitude of this monster all four corners had to go on air bags, the lower the better. So, no standard kit would do the job everything had to be made to order, how will i get replacement parts you ask. Well, our engineering team already thought of that, we not only rebuilt all of the suspension components so that you will have years of trouble free service, we made sure that ever part of the suspension change over is a stocked item at any auto repair store. Every piece of the suspension front and rear is new, ball joints, suspension bushings, tie rod ends, shocks, steering idler arm, and the steerring box has been rebuilt. For anyone that has ever had the pleasure of rebuilding a lincoln of this era before knows how much of an expense this can be and how hard it is to locate all these parts, all of this trouble has been done for you. Two compressors and twin five gallon tanks were mounted in the trunk along with the solenoid valves. Although these components usually fill a normal cars truck there is plenty of room for a full size spare and all the luggage you and your friends or family would ever need for a weekend retreat.

A car this big has to have a great braking system, the original system was not that at all. Every part of the drum braking system was removed, and four wheel disc brakes and a po wer booster replaced the antiquated original. all the hoses and lines were replaced or upgraded. New emergency brake cables were custom made, the entire system works flawlessly easily stops a 7000lbs plus car. All the original pedals and warning lights were retained and function exactly as they would have in 1958 when this car was brand new.

One thing has always been Paramount at Acme Rods Inc., HORSEPOWER. This is the original numbers matching 430 Lincoln Maurder factory rated at 415hp. As we stated what a great starting point, we took this recently overhauled engine and made sure every nut bolt and spec was absolutely perfect. We installed a new timing chain, resealed every gasket or seal that even remotely looked like it had a leak or a drip. While it was a part we painted everything back to the original lincoln engine color. We installed a new water pump, thermostat, belts and hoses, recored the radiator and had it pressure tested. Also replaced was the points and condensor, why use out of date parts when you can use modern tecnology we asked and installed an electonic trigger from pertronix. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, gone is the ballast resistor and a new 3ohm coil replaces it for years of trouble free service. The original carburater was beyond a satisfactory rebuild so a holley direct fit replacement was put on and an open element air cleaner that retains the orinal appearance. All new exhaust was ran from the freshly rebuilt manifolds to the rear bumper. A custom h pipe was added and magnaflow mufflers with chrome turn downs were installed. The entire a/c system had been ravage by years of storage, so every part was replaced, new compressor, lines, dryer, and condensor. Older a/c systems ran r-12 and that is all but exist now so it was converted to r-134a any auto parts store sells 134a if the need to ever top the system off would arise. While we were at it the original heater cores were showing signs of weepage so we recored them both and installed all new hoses.

Another major hurdle with older lincons is the electrical system, making all power options work can be a major expense. We went through every system and all of them work perfectly now. All seven windows work, power vent windows, all four door windows and the rear window. The six way power seat functions perfectly and the power vent/ heat, ac switch cycles exactly as its supposed to. All the lighting system has been rebuilt and everything works from high beam low beams to the backup lamps are a never fail to operate system now.

The fuel system has been upgraded a new tank and pickup were installed along with a fuel filter which was not part of the original system. The interior is original except for the carpet which was repalced with an exact copy of the original. The exterior paint is original and it does show its age, but it works flawlessly with the look that the car gives of when the air ride is let down and the custom 17" black rock wheels are swallowed whole into the wheel wells.  New rubber was installed on the wheels and it is setup with a stagger from front to back. This has been an amazing project that we at Acme Rods Inc. have all enjoyed, but like all projects they come to an end and we move on to the next one. We named this one project Marilyn....... Manson, happy bidding whoever wins this item will not be disappointed we can arrange shipping in the lower 48 for a fee all international shipppng is buyers responsibilty. 2013 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost

A Bench-Warmer In Waiting
I hail from Cleveland, and that means I'm familiar with sports franchises that are always falling short of championships. The Indians, the Browns, the Cavs - they've all come close, but being a resident of C-Town means learning to appreciate the effort more than a reward that never seems to come. So I can appreciate the situation in which Lincoln finds itself today, one where the past is full of repeated attempts to be competitive, and looming on the future's horizon is the next hope on which everything hinges.
That next hope for Lincoln is not the car you see here, but rather the smaller, all-new 2013 MKZ sedan. Like LeBron James entering Gund Arena for the first time, the MKZ will enter dealerships this fall as the brand's chosen savior, markedly more stylish, advanced and desirable than anything offered by Lincoln in recent memory. And that would make this car, the 2013 Lincoln MKS EcoBoost, one of the other 20 guys whose names I can't remember who played alongside LeBron during his rookie season.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

Watch 14 hot rides take over concept car lawn at Pebble Beach

Sun, Aug 16 2015

The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an annual celebration of the beautiful, old cars that grace Monterey Car Week. But Monterey – and Pebble – features lots of newer metal, too, and that includes the concept lawn at Pebble Beach. Now, "concept lawn" isn't a totally accurate name anymore, and you'll see why in the list below. This year especially, plenty of production cars can be found in the area once reserved for the conceptual. Still, we're happy to see them. Here's what's featured this year: Alfa Romeo 4C Spider Audi R8 BAC Mono Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6 BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage R Buick Avenir Galpin-Fisker Rocket Speedster Hyundai HCD-16 Vision G Coupe Icona Volcano Infiniti Q60 Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4 Maserati Ghibli McLaren 570S Rolls-Royce Wraith By our count, that's seven concepts out of fourteen cars. But it still makes for one hot group of metal. Check 'em out in the gallery above.
