History of this Continental

The first generation Lincoln Continental of 1940-1948 brought European-inspired design elegance to the American automobile. The most famous, and certainly most widely emulated, attribute of the original Lincoln Continental was its rear mounted, metal-Shrouded spare tire. When production resumed in 1946 following WWII, the Continental and other Lincolns generally continued the 1942 Styling, but sparkled with new, bolder grillwork that gave them more road presence.

This car was acquired by the Debusk Family in the early 1950’s and remained in the family until this year (2014). It has been treated as a valued family member and was used until the elder Mr.Debusk passed away. Relegated to storage in an Estate Garage, it languished there for more than 20 years.

Condition:

It is hard to believe but this car is all original and looks gorgeous still. The paint is the original lacquer and it still has a mirror shine. The car has no rust or dent or scrapes. It is one of the best original survivors that I have ever been seen. The convertible top is original and has some staining and great patina. The dash board looks remarkable with beautiful paint, chrome and gauges. The steering wheel is flawless as wheel. The original leather on seats have great patina. The front seat is showing wear and rear seat is showing no wear. The only two components on this car that is none original are the tires and the carpet. All glass, headlights, chrome, fog lights etc are original. The engine paint is original and still has original tags on the engine. The registration is dated from 1961. The car is a true time capsule.

Mechanically

The car had all fluids flushed, the gas tank was cleaned, and lines were cleaned, the carburetor was rebuilt, New Firestone www Tires replaced the original dry rotted tires. The car started right up after sitting. The V-12 engine runs so smooth and quiet. You cannot hear it run. The transmission shifts smoothly in all gears. The car is a 3spd with overdrive transmission. The car has the original headlights and they still work. This is truly a one of kind car!

The 1946-1948 Lincolns were the only Post WW II American cars powered by a V-12 engine. The Continental Cabriolet was an expensive, ultra-exclusive car of very limited production. Many were purchased new by Hollywood Celebrities. The list price for the 1948 Continental Cabriolet was $4,746more than two and a half times the cost of that years Ford V-8 Convertible!

This car comes with a lot of original documentation, black and white photos when the car was in use in the 1950’s, original owners manual, radio manual, original license certificates, and many other documents.

This is an incredible opportunity to buy a very rare V-12 Continental Cabriolets. Only 452 cabriolets were built in 1948 and this has to be the best original one in the world. This car must be seen to believe the originality.

Lincoln Continental brings back suicide doors with Coach Door Edition

Remember that teaser image from last week indicating the Lincoln Continental would get suicide doors? Well, it's happening, and we got to check out a prototype late last week. As you can see from the photos, the vehicle is essentially a stretched Continental with rear doors that latch forward. Lincoln doesn't call it the suicide door edition, of course. No, the proper name is 80th Anniversary Coach Door Edition. Semantics aside, the car is here to pay homage to the suicide doors of the 1960s Continental and celebrate 80 years since the original Continental was introduced. That's the why; now here is the how. To build this special edition, a Continental begins life as a normal Black Label model, and leaves the factory with normal doors intact. From there, Lincoln ships the car to Cabot Coach Builders in Massachusetts for the stretch and other modifications we'll get into later. Before you start cursing Lincoln for not really screwing together a suicide door Continental, know this: Lincoln engineered all the components, metalwork and everything else that goes with the build. It then gives the car and components to Cabot for the fabrication work. So yes, somebody else is doing the conversion, but you're still getting a Lincoln-engineered vehicle. Make of that what you will. Cabot has done work for Ford before with the MKT and Transit Van, but Lincoln says it's much more involved in this build than it ever was before. To begin, the Continental gets a six-inch stretch. It was a relatively long car before, but boy does this thing look like it's lounging now. That's exactly what you'll be doing once inside those suicide doors. Lincoln claims best-in-class legroom, and yes, to our eye that is surely accurate. Someone well over 6 feet tall could easily stretch all the way out and still have room to spare back there. The only problem we noticed? Headroom. A sloping roofline combined with seats that are well pushed back doesn't leave a whole lot of space up there. It looks like Lincoln noticed this and carved out little spaces in the headliner, but it might not be enough for those who are closer to the sky than most. A flow-through center console occupies space where the middle seat would typically be. This has all sorts of controls for things like audio and climate control. Lincoln said the one we sat in wasn't entirely finished with all the features and electronics that will be included.

Ford's Galhotra succeeds Farley as head of Lincoln

Ford Motor Company is announcing a major personnel shakeup that could have a dramatic effect on the future of the Lincoln division. Kumar Galhotra (pictured above), currently vice president of engineering at Ford for all of its vehicles worldwide, is taking over as the president of the luxury brand on September 1, replacing Jim Farley. The automaker is also hiring a new head of advanced engineering.
Galhotra has a huge job ahead of him as the new boss of Lincoln worldwide, overseeing product development, marketing, sales and service. His task is to turn the luxury division into a world-class brand as quickly as possible, and he reports directly to Ford President and CEO Mark Fields.
"These changes underscore our commitment to build on the success of our One Ford plan by accelerating our pace of progress. They also make clear we are serious about Lincoln as a world-class luxury brand and that product excellence and innovation are what will deliver growth and define our entire company going forward," said Fields in the company's announcement.

Lincoln to get high-end Harman Revel audio in 2015

"They've never been in autos before, and this is going to be an absolute point of differentiation for us." – Matt VanDyke Lincoln executive Matt VanDyke admits he was "moderately interested" when he heard his brand was considering a partnership with a high-end speaker company. Then he listened to the silky sound they made. "I sat there and I was blown away," he said. That may be overselling the speakers, but they do sound good – we know, we've checked 'em out. Lincoln is betting subtle enhancements – like Harman's Revel audio systems – will help the historic automotive brand appeal to a new generation of buyers. The companies announced a 10-year deal on Wednesday to place Revel speakers in Lincoln cars and trucks beginning in 2015 models. Terms were not disclosed. Though Revel is a new name, Harman has long offered a wide array of car under other brands, including Harman Kardon, Infinity and Lexicon. The partnership launches with the next-generation MKX crossover (concept version shown above), which arrives in showrooms in 2015, and the speakers will be available on other Lincoln models, too. Revel is Harman's top-of-the-line brand that's marketed to audiophiles, and its home systems can easily cost several thousand dollars or more. In Lincolns, passengers will be able to tune their Revel system to three settings: normal stereo sound; "audience," which creates concert-like acoustics; and "on-stage," which is designed to make passengers feel like they're standing among the band. Revel and Lincoln designers also collaborated on the style of the speaker grilles to integrate them into the vehicles, and the uplevel Revel system, called Ultima, will use aluminum covers. "They've never been in autos before, and this is going to be an absolute point of differentiation for us," said VanDyke, Lincoln's global director. Though Revel is a new name to the auto sector, Harman has long offered a wide array of in-car audio and infotainment systems under other brands, including Harman Kardon, Infinity and Lexicon. The Revel partnership is part of Lincoln's efforts to elevate its image and make the brand more relevant to new and younger customers. Lincoln's Black Label line, a customization and service program, will launch at 32 dealerships in six states this year, before expanding nationwide in late 2015. Additionally, Lincoln signed Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey to star in its advertisements.
