Offered for Sale with No Reserve a 1979 Lincoln Continental Town Car Collector Series with the Ultra Rare Factory Fixed Glass Roof Option!!! This Lincoln has minor rust issues on the rear dog legs (behind the rear doors) and some minor surface rust. Very solid car worthy of restoration. Runs and drives very soild like a Lincoln should. Try and find another Town Car with the glass roof option , let alone a Collector Series with it. This is an extremely rare example of when luxury cars were built to stand out. Odometer shows 27421 kilometers but I am not sure if that is rolled over or not . Even so , if it is 127421 thats only 73000 original miles and this car with the minor rust issues fixed and a new paint job will clean up very nicely!!!
Fixed Glass Moonroof Option At a Glance: In what would have to be considered one of the more unusual options offered by Lincoln in the late seventies, the Fixed Glass Moonroof was made available for those who desired the additional light and views a glass panel roof would offer, but without any of the potential drawbacks (like wind noise and the fear of water leaks) that a power-operated Moonroof that opened and closed might present. Despite being offered for three years, the fixed glass panel is very rare in comparison to the one that opened to admit fresh air. Apparently there was a very limited market for a glass panel that didn't open, especially considering the cost for both was the same for two of the three years they were offered together. The option consisted of a reflective one-way tinted fixed glass panel that covered nearly the entire forward portion of the roof itself! The glass panel featured a chrome border around its edge, and sat nearly flush with the metal surface. It was available with either a full vinyl roof, Coach roof, or painted, non-vinyl roof. Lincoln Continentals ordered with the Fixed Glass Moonroof option were delivered to American Sunroof Corporation (ASC) for the modification, just like cars ordered with a Power Moonroof would have been. An interior sliding sunscreen was provided to block the sun and its heat when necessary. The sunscreen was manually-operated by either the driver or a front seat passenger. Initially, the Fixed Glass Moonroof was just slightly more expensive than the powered version, with a cost of $954 compared to $938 for the Power Moonroof. A mid-year increase raised the price of the Fixed Glass Moonroof option to $960. For 1978 and 1979, the Fixed Glass Moonroof was priced at $1,027 and $1,088, respectively, which was identical to the cost of the Power Moonroof at the time. This option was inspired by the 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner, 1955 Ford Fairlane Crown Victoria Skyliner, 1955 Mercury Monterey Sun Valley, and 1955 Mercury Montclair Sun Valley, all of which offered a transparent green Plexiglas section over the front section of the roof, which extended a little more than halfway back. (Ford also offered a transparent top on the 1956 Crown Victoria, but it wasn't a separate model as it had been.) These models offered a snap-in interior sunshade for the hotter months when the additional heat might not be appreciated. And if one thing had to be identified as an issue at the time, it was heat. It was said that desert testing revealed an interior temperature gain of just 5 degrees with the sun shade removed, when compared to a standard hardtop configuration. The green tint gave the car interior a strange hue, and in an article Motor Trend Magazine even went so far as to suggest a young lady might as well switch to green lipstick when checking her makeup inside the car! Factory air conditioning was offered on the Ford and Mercury models, but it was still a new concept at the time, and most people didn't pay the extra money to get it, which made the cars with this feature less popular in parts of the country with high summer temperatures. Of course, lack of air conditioning was not an issue on the 1977-1979 Lincolns, and the reflective glass used on the these models did a much better job of controlling solar gain than the tinted Plexiglas panels. The Fixed Glass Moonroof is one of the rarer options offered on Lincolns of this vintage, and it's a real conversation piece when people first see one. This is another example of a time when automobile manufacturers used to build unique cars that had their own individual look and personality, and often had options and trim and paint colors that really set them apart from everything else on the road.

Junkyard Gem: 2004 Lincoln Navigator Ultimate 4x4
Tue, Oct 24 2023Things in the American SUV world got a lot more interesting during the late 1990s, when Ford and GM realized that the best way to print bales of money did not involve bringing over their European-market sedans for sale here. Instead, they would take their big sport utility vehicles, pry off the badges of their proletariat-grade marques, and slather them in luxury materials and the latest gadgetry. Ford was first with the Ford Expedition-based Lincoln Navigator in the 1998 model year, with The General transforming the GMC Yukon Denali into the Cadillac Escalade a year later. Today's Junkyard Gem is an early second-generation Navigator, found in a Denver-area car graveyard. The second-generation Navigator was built for the 2003 through 2006 model years. It didn't look much different from its predecessor, but it (and its Expedition sibling) had a brand-new independent rear suspension that gave it a lower rear floor and a somewhat less truck-ish ride. This generation of Navigator was the first luxury SUV to offer powered retractable running boards. This truck, being a top-trim-level Ultimate, has them. With an MSRP of $56,140 (about $93,069 in 2023 dollars), the Navigator Ultimate 4x4 was the most expensive new production car or light truck offered by the Ford Motor company in the United States as a 2004 model. The introduction of the $149,995 Ford GT the following year stole that crown from the Navigator, of course. That's genuine walnut trim, not the phony wood that went into Malaise Era Lincolns. The dash layout was inspired by that of the 1961 Continental, according to Lincoln PR. Power came from a 5.4-liter DOHC V8 rated at 300 horsepower and 355 pound-feet. Curb weight approached three tons. This one looks to have been in good cosmetic condition when it got here. A quick VIN check shows that it was for sale at a Denver used-car joint a few months back, with just under 140,000 miles on the odometer and a price tag of $4,900 (which is about $3,104 in 2004 dollars, or a depreciation of nearly 95% in 19 years). Perhaps the engine or transmission failed soon after that, leading to this grim fate. That wood-and-leather steering wheel felt … just like a football? You could operate its power features in time to music, if you so chose. The 2004 Navigator was forced to share this commercial with the smaller Explorer-based Aviator.
2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year entries announced
Wed, Jul 6 2016Over 40 vehicles will compete for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards. If that name looks a little strange, it's because the competition added a third category. In years past, pickup trucks, crossovers, SUVs, commercial vans, and minivans competed for the same award. That's why there were occasionally weird comparisons, like last year's competition between the Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan XD. The new format separates pickups and commercial vans into the truck contest and CUVs, SUVs, and minivans into the utility competition. A complete list of eligible vehicles is below, but here are a few highlights. For one, the entire list of entries has a luxurious lean. Of the 43 vehicles, nearly half of them are from premium brands. There are two eligible Bentleys – the Bentayga and Mulsanne – the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-, E-, and S-Class Maybach. The performance ranks are lofty, too, with the Audi R8, Acura NSX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes SL- and SLC-Class, Porsche 718, and F-150 Raptor. The mainstream entries are just as comprehensive. From the Chrysler Pacifica to the Chevrolet Cruze to the Fiat 124 Spider to the Mitsubishi Mirage, NACTOY has covered an enormous price range with this year's contestants. Of course, these are only the eligible vehicles. They'll need to run through three rounds of judging, starting in September at NACTOY's traditional Hell, MI, test drive. The Canadian and American journalists involved in the judging will announce this year's nine finalists – three in each category – on December 6. Lincoln previews the blingier Navigator it will launch for 2022
Fri, Aug 13 2021Lincoln's current-generation Navigator will receive a mid-cycle update for the 2022 model year to fend off a growing list of rivals. The company published a short video on social media to preview some of the changes it has made. Up front, the refreshed Navigator features new-look headlights with LED accents and a subtly revised grille fitted with what looks like a backlit Lincoln emblem. There's also a new piece of trim labeled "The Lincoln Motor Company," which is the carmaker's official name. All told, the changes made to the front end look relatively minor. We're guessing that the rear fascia will be similarly nip-and-tucked, but it doesn't appear in Lincoln's 18-second video and it was completely camouflaged in the last batch of photos we received from our spies. However, we've seen enough of it to tell that the massive light bar will be either significantly trimmed down or removed altogether. This content is hosted by a third party. It's too early to tell if Lincoln will mix things up under the hood. As of writing, the Navigator's only available engine is a twin-turbocharged, 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 rated at 450 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. Its most direct rival is the recently-redesigned Cadillac Escalade, which eschewed downsizing and still offers a V8, and it now needs to worry about the new Jeep Grand Wagoneer, which is V8-only. Could Lincoln surprise us by giving the big Navigator its V8 engine back? Lincoln will unveil the 2022 Navigator next Wednesday, August 18, and sales will start in the following weeks. Unsurprisingly, the Ford Expedition that the Navigator is related to will also enter 2022 after undergoing a series of changes. Visual tweaks will help the new model stand out from its predecessor, and spy shots suggest at least two new variants will join the range. One is a performance-oriented ST-badged model, and the other is an outdoorsy Timberline trim.
