I hate to sell this car, but my wife needed a new vehicle for herself and our kids, so this has to go to cover the expenses of the purchase. Thankfully I still have a couple of other toys left!

I bought this car in September of last year and have personalized it a bit since then. The 1JZ-GTE swap was done about 3000 miles ago by Dave Westfall and the previous owner, and included the replacement of all gaskets and seals with new Toyota parts and a Greddy timing belt. The wiring was done with a Dr. Tweakd harness, which looks factory, and the car runs amazing. I had it dyno-tested at my work and it is making 328-hp to the rear wheels on a Dynacom, so that's a little more than 400 at the flywheel with just a mid-mount intercooler, K&N carbon fiber air filter, DriftMotion 3-inch downpipe, and custom 3-inch exhaust! The R154 5-speed transmission (which is stronger than the weaker factory W58) shifts effortlessly and uses a new RPS street clutch to transfer the power to the one-piece DriftMotion driveshaft and DriftMotion differential adapter, which then turns the welded factory differential (which could easily and quickly be swapped out for a limited slip differential). The differential housing is supported by Parts Shop Max solid differential bushings, which give the drivetrain a reassuring, positive feel while driving. Other chassis upgrades include adjustable Parts Shop Max coilovers (among the best off-the-shelf units available for this car), and staggered 18x9.5/18x10.5 Enkei RPF1 wheels with nice Federal SS595 tires. The rear wheels are brand new, as are the front tires, and there are new neo-chrome open-ended lug nuts all around for a splash of color.

I recently went through the steering system and rebuilt the power steering pump and replaced the lines, resulting in quiet, perfectly operating steering that is truly effortless to use. Speaking of steering, one of the upgrades I made to the car most recently was to install a Grip Royal leather-wrapped steering wheel with chrome spokes, which sets off the interior nicely. Other recent interior work includes a weighted Blox neo-chrome shift knob, as well as a new Pioneer double-DIN head unit which plays DVDs, controls apps such as Pandora, and has Bluetooth with a microphone for easy hands-free phone calls. The head unit alone was $500, and you can upgrade it even further by adding a Pioneer GPS module and/or Sirius/XM satellite radio. The rest of the interior is in great shape, with the only fault of notice being the typical rip on the driver's side seat bottom, but that's easily hidden by just sitting in the car. Oh yeah, and the climate control stopped working once I installed the new radio, so I'm not sure if I blew a fuse or forgot to hook something back up, but I haven't been able to sort it out yet and likely won't have time to do it before the car sells. Consider it a fun first project between you and your new-found love.

The exterior is generally clean, with a few dings here and there. Someone rolled the original front fenders at some point and did a poor job of it, so I bolted on a really nice set of Toyota Soarer fenders, which are rolled much more nicely, but are unfortunately slightly different in color than the rest of the car. I also bolted on a '95/96 front bumper, which I happen to prefer to the '92-94 and even the '97-00 bumpers, and installed 6000k HID headlights in the factory projector housings.

This car is an absolute blast to drive and gets looks everywhere it goes, both because of its appearance and because of how it sounds. I think you'd be hard pressed to find this much fun at this price, and of course there is the potential for so much more power with just a few of the many bolt-on items available for 1JZ engines. Please note that since this car has a JDM engine swap, the buyer will be responsible for getting the car to pass any emissions testing requirements in their area, including in California. Feel free to ask any questions before bidding, but keep in mind that once you bid, you are entering a contract in which you are agreeing to purchase the vehicle should you be the high bidder. Thanks for looking, and good luck!

2018 Lexus GX 460 Drivers' Notes Review | When dinosaurs roamed the earth

Wed, Apr 11 2018

The 2018 Lexus GX 460 has been on sale since late 2009. There have been a few minor updates, but a 2018 model is essentially the same as one from 2010. It's based on the global Toyota Land Cruiser Prado and shares more than a little with the Toyota 4Runner. It slots between the Lexus RX and the big daddy Lexus LX. Despite its age, it's still a seller. Sales were up in 2017. In fact, the GX had its best year in the U.S. since 2005. Blame cheap gas all you want. Really, people just want SUVs. We have a base-spec model. The only option is navigation. There's no heated seats or upgraded audio or safety features like blind-spot monitoring or active cruise control. It's basic and honest, but it also highlights just how out of date the GX really is. Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore: The GX 460 is a body-on-frame, V8-powered, three-row grunt. It's comfortable and functional, but in a segment with more than a few options, this one struggles to stand out. The styling is polarizing yet somehow also vanilla. The spindle grille looks awkward and out of place — a dissonant interpretation of Lexus' latest design language — while the lightly flared fenders say almost nothing. The 4.6-liter V8 only puts out 301 horsepower but still slurps gas to the tune of 15 miles per gallon in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. Power delivery is fine via the six-speed automatic transmission, but the GX 460 feels sluggish from launches. The interior is nice enough with pleasing materials and an intuitive layout. Visibility is solid, you're certainly high enough up, so the command driving position is confidence-inducing. Not a fan of the eight-inch multimedia screen, which feels small and isn't the most informative system I've ever used. Overall, I'd give the GX 460 a C+ compared to other vehicles in this segment. Decent, but dated and lacking some compelling elements. That being said, if you're a Lexus loyalist and want a beastly three-row SUV, you will like this one. If you're more brand agnostic, there are better options out there. Associate Editor Reese Counts: Let's get one thing out of the way — the Lexus GX is old. Yes, it's been on sale essentially unchanged since late 2009, but that's not all there is to it. This is a traditional, body-on-frame SUV with a torquey V8 and a real four-wheel drive system. It's one of the last of its breed. Customers have shifted away from these behemoths, settling on more comfortable and more efficient car-based crossovers.

Toyota fills in details about its future design direction and global platform

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

"In the future, out of 100 customers, we want to excite ten of them instead of not offending all 100."
Almost all of the details about the Toyota New Group Architecture (TNGA) strategy have come out since the initiative was first reported on in March of this year, but Autoblog did learn a few new things about it on a recent trip to Japan. Probably the second-most important detail is that each new segment platform will be based around a common hip point to create an "optimal driving position architecture."

Lexus IS to get Deviant at SEMA

Wed, 21 Aug 2013

It's time to start gathering intel on SEMA, and it starts with this drawing of a modified 2014 Lexus IS. Lexus ran a competition on DeviantART, an online community for artists, to find a suitably modified IS that it could build and display at the temple of all things aftermarket in Las Vegas. The winner, as judged by a four-person panel from among more than 600 entries, is the IS rendered above by Rob Evans.
The winner looks like the beginning of a build for an IS entry into Japan's Super GT series, with a seriously exaggerated front spoiler and rear diffuser and fender flares that aren't just punched out, they're throwing 12-punch combinations.
Evans will have his car built by VIP Auto Salon and plastered all over Lexus materials promoting its presence at the show. Oh, and he gets an IS F-Sport for a year, among other prizes. Second place went to Lucia Lee, third place to Guangho Huang. A press release below has more on the competition and the winner.
