Beautiful 1998 Lexus LS400

Up for your consideration is a very clean 1998 Lexus LS400 in Antique Sterling Metallic. I am still driving the vehicle so it currently has 103,155 miles. By the end of this auction the odometer will likely read 103,500.

UPDATE: When I first put the car up for sale, my reserve price was $6,500. I decided to take off the platinum edition wheels and have lowered the reserve price accordingly. Also, I just found out that this car will need an O2 sensor so I have lowered the price. A link of where to get the part is below.

Maintenance and Exterior

The car is fantastic mechanical shape and has low miles. I get amazing gas mileage and really baby the car. You can see from the photo I am averaging around 25 mpg. I am usually anywhere from 22-25 mpg. The major service (timing belt, etc.) was done at 89,800 miles (see photo). In the past week I just found out the car needs a O2 sensor but everything else checks out great.

As far as fluids go, I run Amsoil synthetic oil because it is the best. I just had the transmission drained and replaced with Amsoil tranny fluid.

The prior owner had most of the car's service done at Rohrich Lexus. After I purchased the car, I had the service done at Dorschel Lexus.

There is no rust on the car other than where there are a couple of rock chips. I planned to get that fixed if I decided to keep the car. Look at the undercarriage pictures ... the car is extremely clean.

I have two sets of rims ... the platinum edition rims I am selling separately. I can send you a picture of the wheels on the car. It looks absolutely stunning! The original five-star type wheels with lug covers are not as nice and have been put back on the vehicle.

Interior

The interior is really sweet. I use Leatherique on the leather surfaces. The areas that have been affected most by the sun felt like cardboard but now are buttery soft. Lexus leather is the best and I used the best stuff on the planet to care for it. I have carpeted floor mats as well as custom made Lloyds RubberTite floor mats in matching gray. Look at the photos you can tell the car is treated well.

Issues

As with any car (and especially one that is 15-years old), one should expect some wear and tear. There are three things I want to be upfront about .....

1. The car needs an O2 sensor. Cars need maintenance and the check engine light just came on. The winner will need to purchase one and replace the sensor. The car's performance is not affected in any way. Here's the link to website to get an OEM sensor. If you go directly to a dealer, you will be ripped off. http://www.lexusparts now.com/parts/lexus-sensor-oxygen~89465-50100.html

2. There are a few rock chips on the hood will need some attention. I took a photo so you may see. There are few dings and scratches as well as a small chip in the windshield that hasn't spread. For the age of the car, I think it is in great condition especially mechanically.

3. The front bumper looks as though it has faded a tinge since it is not quite the same color as the cladding. I planned to have it repainted if I kept the car. It is what it is.

Finally, if you weren't already aware, this car is sold "as is" without any warranties expressed or implied. I have tried to represent this car to the best of my abilities. I am not a mechanic or an automobile professional so caveat emptor.

With all that being said, I really find this car to be the best I have ever owned. It is smooth, refined and just exudes class in an understated way. I have the title to the car in hand.

Please contact me through ebay with any questions you may have. Best of luck and happy bidding!

Lexus LF-30 Electrified Concept announces the brand's entry in EVs

Wed, Oct 23 2019

The star of the Lexus booth at the biennial Tokyo auto show is an extremely futuristic concept named LF-30 Electrified that previews the firm's cars could look like — and be powered by — in 2030. The LF-30 Electrified uses clever technology to take Lexus into the electric vehicle segment for the first time. Lexus has leveraged parent company Toyota's expertise in the field of hybrid powertrains to become one of the industry's pioneers in the segment, but it has always shunned fully electric drivetrains. The LS-30 signals an about-face. Drawing on lessons learned while designing hybrids, engineers developed a 536-horsepower drivetrain that consists of a mammoth, 110-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack and four in-wheel electric motors that can deliver front-, rear-, or all-wheel drive. Don't let the press images fool you; the LS-30 is huge. It's nearly as long as the firm's LS flagship sedan, closer to a Chevrolet Suburban in width, and it weighs almost 5,300 pounds. It can nonetheless reach 60 mph from a stop in 3.8 seconds, and it can travel for up to 310 miles on one charge according to the overly optimistic WLTP testing cycle. Those figures might be irrelevant, because the driver can become a passenger by turning on the on-board autonomous technology and letting it worry about how quickly to accelerate, and when to charge. There's even a drone that Lexus calls an Airporter that autonomous transports luggage, for example, from in front of the owner's house directly to the car's trunk. Odds are you won't even need to tip it. Traveling in the LF-30 feels different depending on where you're sitting. The driver experiences a new concept Lexus calls Tazuna that draws inspiration from how a rein can create a mutual understanding between a horse and a rider; it sounds similar to what Mazda aimed for with the Miata, which famously channeled Jinba Ittai, or horse and rider as one, but it's a completely different take on it. The driver can adjust the stereo or dial a destination in the navigation system without taking his or her eyes off the road thanks to steering wheel-mounted switches and a large head-up display. The driver feels a lot like a jet fighter pilot, then. The passenger, on the road hand, is traveling first-class thanks to a seat inspired by high-zoot air travel, and a gesture-controlled screen. The rear seats recline, and the folks sitting in them can watch movies on a voice- and gesture-controlled glass roof called SkyGate.

Lexus crafts working IS sedan out of cardboard [w/video]

Tue, Oct 6 2015

People make model cars out of all sorts of material: wood, plastic, metal... and sure, even cardboard. What sets this one apart is that it's built to scale – as in, full scale – and what's more is that it can actually be driven. Then again, we couldn't vouch for its crashworthiness, so that might not be advisable. The replica Lexus IS sedan was commissioned by the Japanese automaker's UK office and made by two British workshops: Scales & Models and LaserCut Works. It's inspired by the Japanese art of origami and made out of cardboard, except for the working parts and the frame made of steel and aluminum. It's got a fully functional interior, opening doors, working headlights, rolling wheels, and an electric motor. The form is made up of cardboard 10 millimeters (0.4 inches) thick, provided by packaging company DS Smith. The material was laser-cut into 1,700 components, according to a 3D digital model provided by Lexus, and assembled by hand and painstakingly fixed into place by water-based wood glue that has to set for 10 minutes between each step. Little wonder that the whole project took three months to complete. The finished product will be on display at the NEC in Birmingham later this week during the Grand Designs Live Show. But if you're not planning on heading there yourself, you can check it out in the image gallery above and making-of video below. This content is hosted by a third party. China fines Toyota $12.5 million over Lexus price-fixing

Fri, Dec 27 2019

BEIJING — China's market regulator on Friday has fined Japanese carmaker Toyota Motor 87.6 million yuan ($12.5 million) for price-fixing on its premium Lexus cars in eastern Jiangsu province, according to a document on its website. The decision comes as China steps up regulation over auto sales in the world's biggest vehicle market, where more than 28 million cars were sold last year. The anti-monopoly bureau of State Administration for Market Regulation said that between 2015 and 2018, the Japanese carmaker set a minimum sales and resale price for its cars in coastal Jiangsu province, which deprived dealers of pricing autonomy and harmed customers' rights. Lexus also fixed sales strategies in the region over the period, including offering customers discounts while asking them to purchase accessories at fixed prices, a sales tactic usual among individual auto dealers in China but frowned upon for carmakers. A spokesman at Toyota, Lexus' parent firm, told Reuters the firm acknowledged the penalty and respects the decision. He did not comment further. China's auto sales are declining, but Lexus' sales keep growing. It sold 180,200 vehicles in the first 11 months this year, a 21% jump from a year earlier. In June, China's market regulator imposed an 162.8 million yuan fine on Ford Motor Co's joint venture with Changan Automobile Group for violating anti-monopoly law.
