The Lexus LS 460 L have a quiet, yet strong personality, with a 380-horsepower, 4.6-liter V8 and very smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard for this big luxury sedan, but all-wheel drive is available (the same 4.6L engine is rated at 357 hp when optioned with all-wheel drive). Then there's also the all-wheel-drive LS 600h L, which serves as the tech flagship for the Lexus lineup. It combines a 5.0-liter V8 engine with a strong electric-motor system and large-capacity battery pack. Both models are capable of getting to 60 mph in about five and a half seconds. Fuel economy is actually quite good for a large luxury car in either model: the LS 460 gets 16 mpg city, 24 highway, while the LS 600h gets 20/22. The available all-wheel drive system in the LS uses a Torsen limited-slip differential that sends 60 percent of engine torque to the rear wheels during most driving but more or less as needed for better traction. All-wheel drive models get standard all-season tires and a heated wood-and-leather-trimmed steering wheel, and there's an available Cold Weather Package that brings a stronger heater, upgraded battery and electric windshield deicer. The LS models accelerate, handle, and ride with exceptional smoothness and responsiveness. Lexus says the LS 460 has the world's first motor-driven timing system--along with extensive noise- and vibration-isolation measures. The LS cabin feels rich and elegant and was inspired in design by private jet cabins; the materials and trim are conservative yet opulent, and details like laminated side glass help keep road and wind noise out as well. Both LS 460 AWD models and LS 460 L models offer Variable Gear Ratio Steering (VGRS) and the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS), which together help make the big LS feel a little more manageable on a curvy road or even in a tight parking structure. The Sport Package brings a more focused performance feel to the rear-wheel-drive LS 460, with stronger Brembo brakes, sporty 10-spoke forged alloy wheels and a stiffer, sport-tuned air suspension. Inside, the Sport Package brings sport seats with leather upholstery, while the automatic transmission gets steering-wheel paddle-shifters and throttle-blip downshifting. Inside, the standard-length LS 460 models have just enough back-seat space, but the LS 460 L and LS 600h L adds five inches of length and it nearly all goes to rear-seat legroom. For those who ride in the back while a driver takes care of piloting, there's an Executive Class Seating Package that brings an ottoman-style seat in the rear right position. The seat can recline 45 degrees and includes massage functions as well as a rare upper-back adjustment. Also included with the package is a climate control system that uses infrared sensors to measure surface body temperature and adjust the climate control to suit. The LS 600h L includes even more standard equipment, including climate-controlled front seats, adaptive front lighting, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel and intuitive park assist. Among the leading-edge options available on the LS is an Advanced Pre-Collision System (APCS), which will detect pedestrians in the vehicle's path and help react by braking; the system uses both radar and cameras. Lane Keep Assist and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control are two other available features that help increase safety. Other features available on the LS models include climate-controlled rear seats, a 19-speaker, 450-watt Mark Levinson Reference Surround Sound system, and a navigation system with Lexus Connect concierge and Enform information services. An Advanced Parking Guidance System (APGS) helps with parallel or back-in parking by, after letting the driver choose the spot, actually steering the vehicle while the driver modulates the brake.

Lexus dumps RC F Super GT in favor of stunning LC 500 racer

Fri, Aug 26 2016

Japan's Super GT series remains a favorite at the Autoblog office, because like British Touring Cars and Germany's DTM, the cars look vaguely like the ones you can actually buy, and the racing is close and intense. And next year, Japan's wildest racing will include the Lexus LC 500. Toyota and Gazoo Racing are phasing out the old RC F – which will continue racing here in the US GT3 ranks since it's barely a year old – in favor of Lexus' bigger, cushier two-door coupe. The racer depends on a 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder – just like every other car in the GT500 ranks – but unlike the 5.0-liter V8 or a 3.5-liter hybrid V6 in the LC 500s folks could actually buy. But let's ignore the mechanicals, because look at this monstrous racer. The LC is already the best looking car to wear Lexus' polarizing design language, but the aggressive cuts, angles, and oddly shaped headlights look great when paired with a Super GT car's aerodynamic appendages. Monstrous, flared wheel arches, a mammoth rear wing, and side skirts big enough to serve drinks on are just a few of the aero improvements for the LC 500 racer. Then, there's the really cool stuff, like the exhaust exit in the passenger side door. All cars should have side-exit exhausts in the door. According to Toyota and Gazoo's Google Translated website, the new LC 500 Super GT500 will campaign in the 2017 season. We can't wait to see it hit the track. Related Video:

Toyota's car subscription service rewards you for safe driving

Tue, Feb 5 2019

Toyota has teamed up with Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service Company to launch a new car subscription service with gamification elements in Japan. The program is called Kinto, and it'll offer two tiers: the first, called Kinto One, will allow you to drive one Toyota vehicle over a three-year period for anywhere between $420 and $900 a month. When the tier becomes available on March 1st, you can choose from the available Prius, Corolla Sport, Alphard, Vellfire and Crown models. The other tier called Kinto Select will give you the power to drive one of the available Lexus-branded vehicles for $1,630 a month for three years. Now, what truly makes Kinto potentially more interesting than other leasing services is a rewards program that awards points based on how well you drive. Toyota didn't really expound on how it will work, other than saying that it will "award points to customers based on their vehicle usage (such as for safe or ecological driving)." As TechCrunch notes, the assumption is that the vehicle's in-car connected system will come with the ability to monitor your driving. Best thing about it is that the points you earn aren't useless rewards you can't even use: you'll be able to apply them toward payments. Kinto's Select option will be available starting on February 6th, almost a full month before the more affordable Kinto One launches. Both will be available via select dealers in Tokyo on a trial basis, and they won't officially roll out across Japan until summer. The points program won't be available until fall, when Kinto One's options will also expand. Unfortunately, there's no word on whether Kinto will eventually roll out in the US and other markets outside Toyota's home nation. For more information on Vehicle Subscription Services, check out the Complete Guide.Reporting by Mariella Moon for Engadget.Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. 2022 Lexus LC 500, 500h introduce Bespoke Build exclusive options

Mon, Nov 1 2021

Lexus has announced the 2022 LC 500 coupe, 500h hybrid coupe and LC 500 Convertible. The changes are as subtle here as they were on the LS 500. The coupe's suspension has been "optimized to enhance ground contact feel, linear steering response and steering effectiveness [at] high G," we're told, and that's as close as we get to knowing what Lexus engineers did. After that, there are a few changes that could be spotted at ten feet. One is the Sport Package gaining a 21-inch forged alloy wheel to replace the 20-inch wheel for the 2021 LC 500 hardtop.  There's another revision to the Sport Package thanks to Lexus introducing its Bespoke Build program, which will open up a new menu of performance and cosmetic options. The current LC 500 Coupe offers two Sport Packages, one with a glass roof, one with a carbon roof. From 2022, the weaved lid will only be available to Bespoke Build buyers, which starts with a coupe fitted with the carbon roof Sport Package and the All-Weather Package. The customization choices will get their own configurator page come November 17, laying out exclusive color options like the Manhattenhenge interior and exclusive components like the carbon fiber rear wing and 21-inch forged alloy wheels that were previously limited to the LC Inspiration Series. Each Bespoke Build will also come with an interior badge and a certificate of authenticity. On the droptop side, there's been some additional suspension fiddling. On both coupe and convertible, the 11-strong color palette has been shaved to nine colors, Liquid Platinum and Obsidian going away. The 2022 LC 500 starts at $93,050 plus a $1,075 destination charge, for a total of $94,125, the convertible at $102,175 after destination, both unchanged for this year. The LC 500h MSRP gets goosed a touch, increasing $1,440 to $100,125. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
