Leonardo Dicaprio's Lexus Gs 400 on 2040-cars
San Diego, California, United States

This Motor Trend Import Car of the Year was owned by the internationally famous actor and film producer Leonardo DiCaprio! From his first car, a 60’s Mustang filled with the classic Windsor 351 to his present environmentally friendly $100K+ea Fisker and Tesla, Leo has always loved insanely fast cars. The 2nd generation Lexus GS 400 packs V-8 power in a flashy four-door to create a fun and seriously fast ride. It comes at no surprise that the A-List Actor made this his car of choice to accompany his many exotic girlfriends like, drama series Gossip Girl Blake Lively, Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Bar Refaeli, and Playboy Model Monica Hansen. Confirmed by the cars former service manager in Beverley Hills, Gisele Bundchen has been seen as a passenger when dropping this car off for service. Want some added fun, Lexus still shows Leo as the driver of this car on their records. I’ve personally had them greet me as Mr. DeCaprio. Nominated for multiple Academy Awards and Golden Globes, Leonardo DeCaprio began his international fame after staring alongside Kate Winslet in James Camerons blockbuster in ’97 film, Titanic. This record grossing film is responsible for launching the “Leo-Mania” craze. Perhaps the fictional Blue Diamond owned by Louis XVI inspired the actor to purchase this stunning Blue Onyx colored GS IX00. Outfitted with premium tunes, the actor complemented the Nakamichi sound system and glove box-mounted six-CD changer by adding a HIFONICS AMP and Kicker Sub. The navigation unit will reveal the film stars secrete life; by prying into the many undeleted “Marked Points” including the celebrity’s home up in the Bird Hills of West Hollywood (Records show that he bought this home after the filming of Titanic and still owns it today). I would suspect that even Tom Brady would find interests in the locations where Leo took his gorgeous Gisele, like possibly the Spa across the street of the beach in Santa Monica..? This Blue Diamond has been a fabulous car; maintained by a private mechanic in San Diego with all records and clean title its going to be hard to part from. Somehow however, the car has inspired me to move up, like did the actor, to something like the Tesla Model S… Hey Leo, perhaps a trade, the release of some of those sketchy places that you’ve been like Historic Filipinotown alone should make up for the difference in value between your Tesla and the old decade old ride. BTW, It’s not hard to delete the time stamped data; it’s as though you left your laptop or Little Black Book in the car when the lease expired. |

Lexus LC 500 gets customized at SEMA before it even goes on sale
Wed, Nov 2 2016We still have to wait until next year for Lexus to start delivering the gorgeous new LC 500 to dealer showrooms, but that little fact didn't stop Lexus from letting people modify it for SEMA. The first LC coupe to get the custom treatment is this bright yellow example modified by Gordon Ting and Beyond Marketing. Prospective LC 500 buyers who want to modify their rides won't have to wait long do start adding these parts to their cars. Because Lexus let these companies develop parts this far in advance, the parts should be available around the same time as the car. On the outside, the LC 500 gets a new Artisan Spirit body kit that consists of a front diffuser, fender flares, side skirts, rear diffuser and rear spoiler. The car also has a lower stance thanks to a kit developed by KW Suspension. It features adjustable springs for ride height, plus a hydraulic lift system to keep the custom body work from scraping. The Lexus rolls on HRE P101 wheels that are stopped by Brembo brakes. The other highlight of this custom Lexus is under the hood. The LC 500 comes with a 471-horsepower 5.0-liter V8 that's also found in the RC F and GS F. However, the engine development team at Hard Media, Inc. and D SPORT Magazine had the engine rebuilt with CP pistons and Carrillo connecting rods, and it was given new cylinder sleeves from LA Sleeves to increase bore-size. The end result is a 5.6-liter engine making 525 horsepower. According to Lexus, 525 horsepower is far from the limit of this engine, saying that its capabilities could be, and in fact "have been more than doubled." If anyone at Lexus is reading this, we don't doubt the claim, but we'd also be more than happy to see this capability proven. Perhaps at next year's SEMA show? 2016 Lexus GS F First Drive [w/video]
Wed, Oct 14 2015Performance cars used to be about horsepower and chassis tuning. Lately the question isn't so much what's under the hood, but how many buttons are on the console. We're overwhelmed with individual settings for engine response, transmission, exhaust, steering, and ride. When did these cars turn into a choose your own tuning adventure? The Lexus GS F represents an attempt to step back from this over-adjustable madness and return to more bygone sports car values. It has a special engine, unique bodywork, and a chassis tuned for high performance. There are only two settings you need to play with. The first setting is the Drive Mode Select dial on the center console, which mainly controls the response of 5.0-liter V8 engine and the shift behavior of the eight-speed automatic. The engine is the same V8 found in the RC F, making the same 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. New this year are small balancing weights on the crankshaft pulley that cut down on internal vibration. Drive Mode Select also changes the electronic power steering, air conditioning, and stability control (you can also turn it all the way off via a separate button). The engine is the same V8 found in the RC F, making the same 467 horsepower and 389 pound-feet of torque. You will use two settings in the GS F: Eco when you want to get somewhere, Sport S+ when you want to get somewhere fast. Normal and Sport S modes offer intermediate steps you don't really need. Eco mode softens the throttle and reduces the use of air conditioning for slightly better fuel economy. It also makes the center-mounted tachometer switch into an eco-driving gauge. S+ puts everything into sport mode, including a heavier steering weight and a higher stability control threshold. While Sport S mode shifts the noon position of the tachometer to just below the horsepower peak of 7,000 rpm, S+ goes a step further and turns the rev indicator into a solid bar that grows around the edge of the display. It also adds oil and coolant temperature to the readout. And how could we fail to mention G-Force Artificial Intelligence (or grin at such an overwrought name)? That's the shift logic the transmission uses in Sport S+. It's designed to hold revs in corners and downshift during hard braking. "Our goal with F is to make a driver's car, not a drag race winner." The other button in the Lexus GS F that you need to pay attention to is next to the Drive Mode Select knob, labeled TVD for Torque Vectoring Differential.
Lexus LFA successor with PHEV drivetrain in the works?
Sat, Nov 13 2021Reports out of Japan say that a successor to the Lexus LFA is in the works. While this news should come with a planet-sized grain of salt, there is a non-zero chance. And since the LFA is one of the best sports cars we've driven, it bears at least considering, so let's look at the mere possibility of a successor. Best Car magazine claims to have in their upcoming Dec. 10 issue a scoop about the new "super sports" car. They say that the successor is a plug-in hybrid with a front-midship layout (the heavy motor behind the front axle) under a carbon fiber body. The gas side of the equation is said to be a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 generating approximately 937 horsepower. It's supposedly scheduled for a 2025 debut. This seems to be a different car than the rumored Gazoo Racing Super Sport, which is based on the Toyota's entrant in the WEC's new Le Mans Hypercar class. That car would have to resemble the race car somewhat, and as such would have a twin-turbo hybrid V6. We find it highly unlikely that Toyota would build two super-expensive cars at the same time. Also, note the rumored engine is a 4.0-liter V8, a displacement that doesn't exist in any modern Lexus. Perhaps that could mean a replacement for the current 5.0-liter V8? Or maybe just a sign that this is all much ado about nothing. However, we have seen an LFA prototype with modified bodywork lapping the Nurburgring in late 2018, some six years after the original ended production. The same car was spotted in summer of 2019 as well, the same year Lexus' then vice-president, now president Koji Sato told Autocar, "We need strong requests for a new LFA from the media. This can help us proceed.” Well, if that's what it takes then consider this another vote in the yes column, even though we've described its 4.8-liter V10's 552-horsepower output as not very impressive on paper by the time it came out and covered how it wasn't a hot seller, with new examples still being offered for sale as new in 2018. In the years since, though, it seems the collector market seems to have taken a liking to the LFA. At Monterey Car Week this year, a regular LFA sold for $819,000, more than doubling its original $375,000 sticker, while a 1 of 50 Nurburgring Edition sold for $1.6 million. If the GR Super Sport really is canceled as some rumors suggest, perhaps there is room in the Toyota family for another LFA. We still wouldn't hold our breaths, though.
