Lexus LC Coupe and Convertible add a bevy of official TRD parts
Fri, Jun 19 2020TRD stands for Toyota Racing Development, but that doesn’t stop the performance division from developing parts for Lexus products, too. One of those Lexus products it just released a set of performance parts for is the LC 500. The two-door coupe is our favorite Lexus for sale right now because of its excellent driving dynamics and stunning looks, so adding more performance is a good thing, right? WeÂ’ll stop short of saying itÂ’s a great thing for appearances in this particular instance. The parts shown here tend to muss up and clutter the LC's otherwise gorgeous design. That large rear wing, aero cowling above the rear seats and aero mirror cover all notch the aggressiveness up a level, but it makes the styling look a bit messier in photos. TRD does claim real performance gains from the parts, though. The modified side skirts reduce the amount of wind flowing to the rear tires, which makes the car slipperier through the air — TRD also claims a benefit in fuel economy and reduced wind noise. There are three new wheel designs, all offering a reduction in weight over the stock wheels and an improvement in rigidity. The wheels pictured on the car are the Lunanium Gun Metallic option. TRD says the giant aero cowl reduces wind noise in the cabin for the LC Convertible, and the big rear wing improves vehicle stability. Other available parts include a front spoiler (adds downforce, lowers front clearance by 30 mm), rear diffuser (adds moderate downforce, says TRD), smaller rear spoiler (improves stability at speed), and a “performance damper.” Details are short on this damper, but we can assume itÂ’s slightly stiffer than stock and could offer a noticeable handling improvement. ThereÂ’s a 3-D mini configurator you can play around with on TRDÂ’s site, too. You can only choose between the exterior color, interior color and aero cowl cover, but itÂ’s worth it to see what the mods might look like on your particular LC. Interestingly, the aero cowl sitting above the rear seats can be had in either black or white. Availability of the parts in the U.S. is still unclear, but weÂ’re reaching out to TRD and will update with any news we might hear.  Related video:
Lexus to debut small hybrid CUV at 2014 Geneva Motor Show
Fri, 05 Apr 2013Following rumors that Lexus has been working on a small crossover to slot below the RX (pictured), Automotive News Europe reports that the production-ready CUV will bow at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show next March. Later this year, Lexus will preview this new crossover by way of a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show in November.
According to the report, this new crossover will be a hybrid, and will ride on the smaller architecture that underpins the Toyota RAV4. Specific details have not been confirmed, but AN states that the entry-level CUV will be powered by the same 2.5-liter gasoline-electric drivetrain found in the Lexus ES 300h. Since Toyota will evidently be taking the time to hybridize the platform, we can't help but assume that it will eventually build a second-gen RAV4 EV.
Either way, with the small luxury CUV segment heating up, Lexus is likely smart to offer a player in this space. Until now, there has not been a Lexus crossover below the RX, and this new model will compete with other new players in the class including the BMW X1 and Audi Q3.
Lexus unveils UK-only LC Black Inspiration
Wed, Oct 20 2021Lexus revealed yet another special edition of its LC halo model, this time targeting the coupe model and destined for the UK market. Dubbed "Black Inspiration," it's exactly what it sounds like, only with a nice, British twist. The blacked out look is certainly nothing new, but the LC certainly wears it well. The finish is called Graphite Black, and like all paint codes for the LC, it's ostensibly unique to the car. Don't bother looking for subtle contrasts or two-tone treatments. Everything from the spindle grille, door mirror casings, headlight and rear light cluster surrounds to the housings for the headlight washers has been done in Graphite Black. The monotone treatment finally breaks inside, which is where the Black Inspiration really leans into its target market. The seat bolsters remain a smooth-grain semi-aniline leather, but the surfaces pick up a tweed pattern that is accompanied by a textured finish on the interior trim that looks almost wool-like to our eyes. Lexus says the LC Black Inspiration will be available for order in the UK starting Nov. 1. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
