2002 Range Rover HSE 103K miles!

Background:

As I’m sure you can already see, this vehicle is gorgeous! With its low miles, low ownership, and full service profile, this will be a distinctive Range Rover that should last you for many years to come. It comes to me from a client that traded up to a newer LR4 – their driveway littered with G-Classes and M-Series BMW’s.  Point being: This truck has ALWAYS been meticulously cared for.  If you’ve been looking for a distinctive, quality 02 HSE, your search is over!

Service History:

As a Land Rover technician whose passion for the marquee inspires my dedication, I always use the best genuine parts and expert skill with their fitment.  This truck does not overheat, hesitate or stumble and the shift quality from the transmission is excellent. All windows, sunroofs, controls and options work as they should.  The following is a list of all of the servicing done to ensure that your ownership experience is as enjoyable as possible!

  1. Head gasket service including: cooling system fluid flush and renewal, head gasket renewal, head stretch bolt renewal, intake resealed, valve covers resealed,  throttle body de-ice plate resealed, exhaust system resealed, engine oil and filter renewed.

  2. 30K mile interval service including: genuine spark plugs, New STI spark plug wires, New air element, New Belt, Differential fluids renewed, transfer case fluid renewed, transmission fluid renewed, all safety components inspected and adjusted to factory spec.

  3. ABS System Service – Full system flush and brake fluid renewal

  4. Brand new factory hoses installed.

  5. Brand new factory radiator and thermostat installed.

  6. Brand new genuine brake pads and rotors installed all around.

  7. Brand new headliner installed.

  8. Brand new battery installed.

  9. Brand new Goodyear 255/15/18"s installed all around.

  10. Newly fitted Bilstein Performance Shock and Spring Suspension.

  11. Clean California title in hand, ready to go!

Aesthetics:

This Black on Ash 02 is stunning.  With nearly 15 years of family service to its credit, it is still a head turner around town.  As you can see from the pictures, she details beautifully and the paint is smooth to the touch.  All of the woodwork is rich and dark and chip/crack free.  The leather seats are sumptuous and the overall feeling inside the cabin is truly one of lavish comfort. She offers an executive level of appointments that create a feeling of true confidence behind the wheel.  Additionally, she is a rust free vehicle, the windows, doors and sunroof seal nicely and the cabin ride is quiet. The original factory floor mats are in great condition and the 18” hurricane style wheels are near perfect.

Like most Californians who have spent their life in the sun, this truck has its share of surface blemishes but nothing that takes away from the overall look that – in my opinion – is still red-carpet ready! You will find the average amount of parking lot variety dings and paint fade (most noticeably) on the forefront of the roof.  The interior may have minor flaws, but too few to mention. There are no rips or tears on the seats, and as said, the overall feel is that of a clean, OEM feeling and new smelling truck.

Operation & Performance:

This truck is a rocket ship!  The 4.6L V8 is as healthy as you would hope for from the vintage and fully serviced as it is you surge off the line with all the available power you could want.  Toggle the available “Sport” mode and this thing beats the pants off of anything you’re next to.  The ride onto the freeway is that of total confidence – she drives as straight as an arrow with no shimmies, shakes, or wanderings of any kind.  The handling is effortless and quiet and the shift quality from the transmission is velvety smooth.  You don’t even feel it shifting from gear to gear!

The remote handset operates all doors.  All handles, locks, windows, sunroof, & latches work perfect. All available multi function controls from the driver input stalks work perfect, the telescoping steering wheel operates perfectly inward, outward, upward and down for a tailored fit to the driver.  Power seats and split folding benched work perfect and yes, the rear upper tailgate stays up on its own!  AC/Heat/Factory nav all work great and all headlight, foglight, tail light, and blinker functions work perfectly too.

EAS VS. Coil Spring Suspension:

This is the most widely debated topic in Range Rover history.  Is air suspension a good thing or bad thing?  In my opinion, it depends on preference. The purists will insist that EAS is what makes the Range Rover a Range Rover. The pragmatists will argue that the original Range Rover… in fact, the line-up for the first 22 years never had it and was celebrated because of the amazing no-fuss, all-performance coil spring suspension.

This truck was fitted with the best coil spring suspension that you can buy.  The Bilstein suspension system on this truck is AMAZINGLY plush… while still giving you aggressive handling with virtually no body roll while cornering.  Dare I say it… but this set up feels better than any recent EAS vehicles that I’ve been in… How good are Bilsteins?  Well, put it this way: I RACE professionally in my Range Rover Classic with a coil-over Bilstein suspension system.

What’s nice about this truck is that should you choose to, you can retrofit EAS with relative ease as the core of the system is still intact. All EAS plumbing, tanks, sensors, driers, ECU and harness are still there.  The choice is yours; and you can get into this P38 knowing that you have reliability and comfort from the get-go.

Purchasing, Perspective & Why Buy From Me:

No one puts a Land Rover together better than me, PERIOD.  It’s the vehicle I drive, and the vehicle I RACE.  Nearly two decades of Rover ownership and service are poured into every Rover that I see into new hands.

All too common are sales from the brokerage houses where a vehicle will receive a detail service and nothing else.  Leaving maintenance work for the pleasure of the new owner; often time’s immediately following reception of the vehicle.  Beware of any vintage Rover that does not share the same service points as the ones I advertise with my trucks.  They are ESSENTIAL for long term reliability and any Classic without these services are ticking time bombs.  I am not a Land Rover tech that drives home in a Honda Civic.  I come from a long line of British Car technicians and Live, Breathe and even RACE the green oval.  I understand ALL of your concerns and needs and do my best to ensure that you will be happy based on a simple, yet powerful concept:  DOES THIS VEHICLE MAKE ME HAPPY?  WOULD I PUT MY WIFE AND BABY IN IT? WOULD I LOVE TO HAVE IT?  The answer is always yes.  And that’s when I know they are ready.  I care.  I know you do, too.

Vehicles that I see off not only have domestic endpoints, they go to the farthest reaches of the planet.  They have gone to Europe, Asia, The South Pacific, Central America and currently, a client recently purchased a trail-ready 88 RRC and is en route to Tierra Del Fuego after I picked him up in the vehicle at LAX when he flew in to receive it!  The point here is, I believe in each and every vehicle that I usher in to new ownership.  Please see my recent vehicle sales and I’m sure you’ll be impressed.  I have A LOT of copy-cats out there.  If you aren’t buying one from me… its, well, NOT from me even though other sellers go so far as to “cut-n-paste” my listings!!!

While these vehicles are all totally looked after, they are not immune to future service needs and flaws.  They are used vehicles and normal flaws and wear should be expected as the vast majority of them are pushing 20+ years old.  As I have said, my wife has driven this truck faithfully with no operational complaints but I invite you to ask ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS NOW!  There are no queries too obscure; your satisfaction is the goal here.  Additionally, eBay offers a 3rd party inspection service to verify ALL of your acquisition needs IN PERSON.  Purchase of the vehicle = SATISFACTION.  Once this auction is over, the winning bid and purchase imply that satisfaction has been achieved and will be understood as such.  There are no warranties offered here, but that said, there is always an unspoken “hand-shake” warranty meaning that should something fail within a reasonable amount of time – say a hose, a coilpack, a distributor, blower motors, an alternator, a switch, etc – I will be happy to send you what I have available at that time.

This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION so you are bidding to win!  Please make sure that you bid ONLY what you are prepared to pay.  This means, when the auction is over, and the winning bid is placed, this becomes THE SALE PRICE of the vehicle.  Under no circumstances does it open the door to negotiate or back out of your commitment.  The people bidding for this vehicle actually want it.  Do not spoil their chances at ownership by arm-chair bidding.  Yes, everyone joins eBay at some point, and there is no prejudice against lower transaction numbers here – HOWEVER – if I suspect and/or become aware of any insincerity on the part of said bidder, I reserve the right to cancel all bids from and block that insincere bidder from this auction.

Completion of this transaction is fairly straight forward.  Once the auction is over, I will be contacting the winner immediately and we can discuss the easiest way to finalize the transition.

Who is this truck for:

This truck is for anyone looking for a great Range Rover.  Its fully serviced, ready to go, its got great miles, low ownership and because of the vintage and styling it would make an excellent executive level commuter, estate guest vehicle, first car, gift for your soon-to-be college student and even an excellent base for a luxury off-road expedition vehicle.  Be that as it may, the most important question is what will you do with her? There’s plenty of miles left to cover this summer – so get out there and don’t look back; no matter where this capable vehicle will take you!  Thanks and happy rovering!!!

Jaguar Land Rover is going to call itself 'JLR' and spin off brands

Wed, Apr 19 2023

Embracing the current popular philosophy that less is more, the executives at Jaguar Land Rover plan to officially rename their company “JLR” and to create a new “house of brands” that will emphasize name equity and refocus its vehicle offerings. In simple terms, the British-based, India-owned company will split into four separate brands: Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Jaguar. While this shift may appear to be essentially a function of marketing and dealership bookkeeping, the over-arching reason is to give some of the brands more visibility. Details of the plan, which would reconfigure showrooms in Britain into discrete brand footprints, were discussed this week at a presentation by JLR CEO Adrian Mardell. “The reality is Range Rover is a brand and so is Defender,’” said creative officer Gerry McGovern. “Customers say they own a Range Rover. In luxury, you need absolute clarity. Land Rover Range Rover SV Autobiography doesnÂ’t give it. We love Land Rover, but there isn't as much equity as Range Rover, and Defender is increasing massively.”  Underlying the effort is plans to reinvent Jaguar as an electric-only luxury brand, Mardell said that this was “unfinished business” for him since he joined Jaguar 32 years ago. “The Jaguar of 32 years ago is where weÂ’re going back to and the right place for us to be." He further acknowledged that JLR had been “quiet” recently in the face of semiconductor chip shortages, but allowed that that situation was easing at his company.

BMW X6 M said to lap the 'Ring in 8:20

Fri, Jul 17 2015

Bimmer Today reports that the German rag Auto Zeitung ran an Audi RS3 and a BMW X6 M around the Nurburgring together, and the hotted-up sports activity vehicle came in just five seconds behind the white-hot hatch. Driven by 'Ring regular Horst von Saurma, the RS3 ran its lap in 8 minutes, 15 seconds, and the X6 M ran an 8:20. If those times are accurate, that makes the X6 M the second fastest production SUV on the lap-time list according to Wikipedia: ahead of it is the 550-hp Range Rover Sport SVR, which ran a time of 8:14. That time puts BMW's 575-horsepower, 5,200-pound SUV four seconds ahead of the time registered by the last-gen, 555-hp X6 M, and well ahead of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S that Sport Auto clocked an 8:34 with. It would not, however, match the predictions that X6 M project manager Herbert Bayerl made for it in an interview with Sport Auto earlier this year. Bayerl said "The new BMW X6 M moves at the level of M3," speaking of the E92 BMW M3 that Sport Auto ran around the 'Ring in 8:05. It is, though, two seconds faster than the E46 M3, which lapped in 8:22. Bayerl called out the Range Rover Sport SVR directly, saying, "We have been traveling much faster in testing and have undercut the time of Range Rover several times," and "We don't need any special attachments to go faster." Auto Zeitung's report on the lap is only for subscribers so we'll have to wait for more official news. For the apples-to-apples comparison we'll be looking forward to Sport Auto's hot lap, then we'll know if the Range Rover has anything to fear. Related Video:
