Are You Ready For The Winter??  You can’t beat a Range Rover in the Snow and the Farmer’s Almanac is predicting an exceptionally snowy winter this year.

This auction is for my prized 1999 Range Rover 4.0 SE. It is the absolutely most desirable color combination and in fabulous shape. This is the second generation p38 with the Bosch engine. It is in beautiful condition and has been meticulously maintained.

It is fully equipped with a super heavy duty front winch bumper with steering protection plate and a Warn winch with (wired) remote control, roof rack, and high power emergency strobe lights in all four corners (hidden inside the signal lights), towing package with class III receiver and trailer wiring (plug your ball mount into the receiver and go) and slightly over-sized tires. If you are looking at Range Rovers, you probably know they come equipped with air suspension that tends to cause a lot of very expensive problems. This Range Rover has been converted to coils spring suspension for better reliability and better ride on and off road. There are no check engine light warnings or other warning lights on.

The Rangie is in great shape. It’s beautiful inside and out and in great running condition. Interior is in great shape, showing light wear for the age, headliner is not sagging, seats are beautiful tan leather, includes the rare factory Range Rover floor mats front and back and a cargo cover and load space liner in back. It has the factory stereo system with weather band and CD changer. My local mechanic recently inspected it and the only issue he found was a small exhaust leak. The only other issues I know of are that the winch cable needs to be pulled out manually, but pulls/powers in fine. I’m pretty sure that this is just a solenoid or connection, but I haven’t looked into it since I don’t off-road the truck. The only time I used the winch was to pull a UPS truck out of the ditch in front of my house last winter. Also, the heated seats and cruise control are not working. The Rangie is super clean, runs, shifts, stops without a fault. It never runs hot. ABS, Traction control, AWD, etc. all work as they should. As you can see from the pictures, the paint and body are in beautiful shape with only a couple small door dings. The heated windshield has a few small rock chips, but otherwise is great. Steering is nice and tight and the Rover rides and stops strong and straight. I would not be selling it, except for the fact that my wife now has the newer generation Range Rover and we can’t afford to keep both.

The Rangie includes the full owner’s manual, and both original keys (the original switch blade key plus the regular key).

Please be aware that the Rangie is for sale locally and I reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time. It is in great shape for its age and mileage, but please remember that it is a used car and is not in new car condition. It is sold strictly as-is, where-is and the buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs, although I will try to be as helpful as possible to make the transaction smooth.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the auction end and the balance is due within 7 days. Please do not bid if you are not going to follow through. Your bid is a legally binding contract.  Please email me with any questions you have. Good luck bidding.

Jaguar Land Rover creates new Special Operations division for halo vehicles, bespoke commissions

Fri, 13 Jun 2014

Jaguar Land Rover has announced that a new division of the British manufacturer will be dedicated to "bespoke commissions," as well as heritage products and apparel. Oh, and the new Special Operations division will also be behind JLR's halo cars from now on.
It's that last one that is the most tantalizing, as the last real halo product to see production from Jaguar was the XJ220. The Range Rover, meanwhile, has always had its own kind of halo reputation, although the Land Rover brand itself has never really gotten into the game with a dedicated model.
According to JLR, the new halo models will focus on ultra-high performance and luxury with a limited run of vehicles. The bespoke models, meanwhile, will give the wealthiest customers full sway over how vehicles are outfitted, with unique paints, trims and other accessories. The new SpecOps division will be run by John Edwards.

Jaguar Land Rover's latest tech makes roads safer for bikes [w/video]

Tue, Jan 20 2015

Safety in automobiles isn't just about protecting the occupants anymore. It's about protecting pedestrians who might be struck by an automobile, and as Jaguar Land Rover is demonstrating, it's about protecting cyclists as well. The latest experimental safety system from the British automaker is called Bike Sense, and it builds upon technologies the company has demonstrated recently, taking them a step further to make the road safer for those riding on two wheels. The system uses a combination of colors, sounds and vibrations to alert the driver of a potential hazard that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Demonstrated on an XJ sedan, the system identifies nearby two-wheeled vehicles as pedal-powered or motorized, and alerts the driver accordingly. If a cycle is passing a the vehicle's blind spot, the top of the seat will vibrate to virtually "tap" the driver on the left or right shoulder, prompting him or her to look over that shoulder for the hazard. LEDs inside the cabin will then illuminate amber to red in the direction that the bike is passing. The system will even chime a bicycle bell or motorcycle horn as the two-wheeled vehicle approaches, and vibrate or stiffen the accelerator pedal if the driver keeps moving towards the obstacle. And if an occupant of the parked vehicle starts to open the door into the path of moving vehicle, it'll flash a light, sound an alarm and even vibrate the door handle to warn the occupant of the oncoming hazard. We could imagine the alerts getting a little distracting, but JLR says the system is designed to prioritize potential hazards when their are groups of pedestrians, bicyclists and/or motorcycle riders on a busy urban street. This is, of course, just the latest in a long string of new systems JLR has under development, following such technologies as the Transparent Bonnet, the Smart Assistant, the Virtual Windscreen for track sessions and the 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen for city driving. Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen

Thu, Jul 23 2020

Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen.  The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
