1991 Model Year Range Rover Special Editions: Hunter:

The Hunter was introduced as a lower cost model for those who appreciated the Range Rovers off road ability but did not want to pay the rapidly escalating price of the fully equipped U.S. models. Despite having the same name (and tailgate sticker) the 1991 Hunter was different from the 1989 Hunter sold in the U.S. The 405 Hunter models sold in 1991 had LESS equipment than the standard 1991 models, The 1991 Hunter did not have ABS anti lock brakes or sway bars like all the other 1991 models (the GDE did not have sway bars because it was built to 1990 specs) but it still had the vented front rotors introduced in 1990. Due to the lack of the sway bars, ABS brakes, power seats (and on most Hunters) a sunroof, they weighed over 100 lbs less than other 1991 Range Rovers. The exterior of the Hunter was finished in one of four solid colors (Alpine White, Eastnor Green, Arran Beige, and Portofino Red) metallic and micatallic paints were not available on the Hunter. The Hunter did not have the plastic front air dam with fog lights, but had the small plastic air deflector from the European Base and Diesel models, or a sunroof (the sunroof was available as a $1,500 option). Inside the Hunter had Brogue Brown cloth seats without power adjustment (the 1991 Hunter is the only Range Rover ever imported to the U.S. by RRNA/LRNA without power seats). All came with a dog guard between the back seat and the load area. The Hunter did not have a hard load-space cover like all other NAS Range Rovers, but had a luggage net. The Hunter had a has a sticker on the tailgate of a person riding English style on a horse jumping over the letter H in Hunter. The word Hunter was in the same script as the word County on the back of the 1989-1992 County models. The 1991 Hunter model has the same sticker on the tailgate as the 1989 model. A total of 405 Hunters were sold in 1991)

2018 Range Rover Sport Coupe spied in Scotland

Wed, Jun 8 2016

Sport utility vehicles are the rage. SUVs with coupe styling are pretty popular, too, as BMW and Mercedes have demonstrated. Now it's Land Rover's turn. Believed to be the upcoming Range Rover Sport Coupe, this ute was spied this week during top secret testing at a remote location in Scotland. The vehicle would slot between the Range Rover Sport and Evoque, giving Land Rover an answer to the Mercedes GLE and BMW X6. These shots show what appears to be a chopped roofline, giving the new model a sportier profile than the traditional upright silhouette of Rovers. We expect it will use a version of the aluminum Jaguar F-Pace platform and offer V6 and V8 engines. It could also offer a hybrid or full electric version. The new crossover might also be lower set in a bid to differentiate it from traditional Rovers and give it a performance vibe. The Range Rover Sport Coupe – or whatever it is ultimately called – would enter a strong segment that's found favor in the United States. Once derided for potentially offering less function than traditional utes, these lifestyle vehicles have developed a strong following for their style and capability. The X6 was so successful, BMW added the smaller X4, and this forced Mercedes to follow suit with the GLE and GLC coupe variants. In this context, it's about time for Land Rover to join the fray. Ferrari exec to lead Jaguar North America

Tue, 06 Aug 2013

Jaguar has announced that Jeff Curry will be serving as the brand's new North American vice president, effective August 13. The move is a coup for Jag, which lured Curry away from his previous posting as VP of marketing for Ferrari North America, and is further evidence of just how strong Jaguar's comeback has gotten.
Curry has spent over 20 years in the auto industry, and has worked with Audi, SiriusXM and Land Rover, where he made his start in the industry. His primary responsibilities with Jaguar will cover marketing communications, customer relationship management, and product planning.
Jaguar Land Rover's North American president, Andy Goss, heaped praise on the brand's newest addition saying, "Jeff brings with him extensive automotive and luxury marketing experience, critical expertise in leading-edge technologies and a personal passion for automobiles."

Queen Elizabeth II was a longtime automotive enthusiast

Sun, Sep 11 2022

Since driver's licenses, license plates, and passports were issued in her own name, Queen Elizabeth II didn't need them to drive and travel. She started combining the two just before she turned 19, joining the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) transport division in 1945 for vehicle mechanic training. She wanted to help the British effort during World War II and would drive an ambulance — one that, theoretically, she could also fix if it broke down. The war ended before she graduated as an Honorary Junior Commander, the other ATS members dubbing her Princess Auto Mechanic. We donÂ’t know if she got under the hoods of the many official state vehicles and the far more numerous unofficial fleet in the royal garages, but she was still driving herself around England as late as this year. Here is a tiny selection of royal conveyances used during her 70-year reign. Gold State Coach (1762) True, she never drove this one, but a tour of every royal garage should start with the coach. King George III commissioned Samuel Butler to build it in 1760. Butler spent two years on the gilded carriage 24 feet long and more than 12 feet high. The quarters are suspended from the frame by leather straps, so occupants get tossed about even during a slow stroll, which is as fast as the eight Windsor Gray horses can pull it. It wasnÂ’t until the 1900s that King George VI rubberized the wooden wheels. Word is the queen didnÂ’t like it.   1953 Land Rover Series 1 Land Rover gave Queen ElizabethÂ’s father, King George VI, the 100th example of the 80 Series off the line in 1948. She picked up the Landie habit for herself five years later, when a 1953 Series 1 with a custom 86-inch wheelbase was part of the fleet used for her six-month tour of the Commonwealth in 1953 and 1954. That Land Rover became Ceremonial Vehicle State IV. The models above were built in Australia in 1958 as near copies of the Commonwealth tour vehicle, when Australia decided it wanted six identical versions for royal service. ItÂ’s thought the royal family went through around 30 Land Rover Series cars and Defenders since then, and many of the most common photos of her have her posing in or near one, especially the 2002 Defender built just for her. The royal family isnÂ’t finished with them, either: A current Defender 110 served as a luggage hauler for family members headed to Balmoral Castle during the queenÂ’s final days.
