For auction I have a 1988 Range rover Classic in good shape with a newer 4.6 L engine. I bought the truck in 2009 locally with the intention to use it for towing my 19 ft. boat to the lake and some local driving. The original 3.5L engine was weak and soon I decided to install 1998 Range Rover 4.6L engine in the truck. Motor was purchased used and reconditioned in a automotive machine shop with new bearings, oil pump, piston rings, r/v cam and lifters, gaskets and accessories. The motor is running on the original engine management with a 4.2L computer. The end result is a nice powerful Rover with good towing capability and torque. Transmission is in good shape, shifts smooth, transfer case works good too, no noises, and drives on the road with no vibrations. Only one little observation: since the new rebuild of the engine, there is one engine lifter that is a little lazy on first start up in the morning. It ticks for about 15-20 seconds and goes away. It is been doing it since new and has not changed since. The engine has about 20k miles since the installation and runs strong.
Brakes are in good shape, about mid life wear. Suspension is good, this truck has no air bags suspention, just the regular trouble free coil-overs. Starter, water pump, hoses and alternator was replaced with the 4.6 engine ( 20k miles ago), a/c pump removed but still available, and the rest of the a/c equipment is still installed Tires are all good, at mid life. Muffler has a small leak, possible replacement is needed. Windshield is crack free All electrical system works, all lights good, sunroof works, all windows work, instruments work and accurate. Body is rust free, tailgate and rear hatch is rust free, a few minor door dings around the body, a mid size ding on the tail gate (see picture), paint is presentable and shiny. Interior is clean, driver front seat fabric on the side is ripped( see pic), head liner is good and new, sunroof does not leak, one front cabin vent grille is missing. Washington title on hand, free & clear. Truck is in good shape, there is no need for any serious repairs to be done, and is reliable for long trips. If interested, I have a spare complete good transmission, transfer case available for the truck with the purchase of the Rover. |

Fully Charged rolls into season 3 with VW XL1 and electric Land Rover
Sat, Jan 18 2014It's been some time since last we visited with British actor and electric car proponent Robert Llewellyn and his web-based video series, Fully Charged. The show, now sponsored by Ecotricity, has started rolling out its third season and now has available two episodes featuring a pair of truly unique – and diametrically opposed – vehicles. The first installment starts with some interesting numbers involving the host's Nissan Leaf and its energy consumption over the past 36,000 miles, but soon moves on to the ultra-aero, ultra-expensive Volkswagen XL1. Now, if you've already seen the footage from our own XL1 first drive review, there's not a lot new here except, perhaps, more enthusiasm and a better listen of the two-cylinder diesel kicking in. Still, it's a great reminder of a truly unique vehicle and we enjoyed the segment. The second episode features an electrified Land Rover Defender 110. This is a vehicle you'd more likely see on an African safari than at the local mall. It's not a home-built conversion either, but rather, something the company has put together "for the boffins to create the ideas and see if they work." Boasting a 50-mile range, it's certainly something we like to take on an off-road adventure. Llewellyn is given the chance to do just that, and though the course is somewhat milder than what we might attempt, it does feature a stretch of river and some rough, rutted tracks. You can watch both episodes by scrolling below let us know which vehicle you'd prefer in the comments. This writer is going with the four-wheel-drive. This content is hosted by a third party. Is Land Rover developing an all-electric Tesla Model X rival?
Fri, Oct 31 2014Tesla will soon put its all-electric Model X crossover on sale, and if it's anywhere near as successful as the brand's four-door sedan the Model S, then it'll be a hell of an attention getter for mainstream automakers. Land Rover isn't waiting for proof of the Model X's success, though. According to reports, Land Rover could be preparing an all-electric Range Rover. Likely more crossover than full-size SUV, the new vehicle would probably be far more aerodynamic than current models. But the new EV would still take advantage of LR's high-tech aluminum structure, and could potentially be a close relative of the production Jaguar C-X17, according to Autocar. It seems unlikely that this new Land Rover EV will have the off-road chops of the brand's other models, but that doesn't mean that will be useless on the rough stuff. AC, citing Land Rover design boss Gerry McGovern, claims that a height-adjustable air suspension will allow a low, aerodynamic ride height for high-speed travel while it can easily be transitioned to a higher level for off-road duty. As for range, AC believes (and we agree) that a successful effort would need to get as close as possible to the Model S' 265-mile EV range. Autocar is anticipating a price of around 90,000 pounds, equivalent to $144,000, which roughly matches the cost of a UK-market Model S. If the Range Rover EV comes stateside, we'd wager that prices will start under six figures, much like the US-market Tesla.
Jaguar-Land Rover will use recycled waste to make parts for future models
Thu, Oct 1 2020Jaguar-Land Rover's future models will be partially made of junk. The company announced it's working on integrating a recycled material named Econyl into its manufacturing process in the coming years. Created in 2011 by Italy-based Aquafil, Econyl is a fiber made with a blend of recycled industrial plastics, fabric offcuts sourced from clothing manufacturers, and discarded fishing nets aimlessly floating around the ocean. It's more eco-friendly to produce than oil-based fibers, according to Jaguar, and it helps clean up the planet. Jaguar and Land Rover will use Econyl to make floor mats in the not-too-distant future. Neither company listed the models they'll put the material in, but it's reasonable to assume recycled floor mats will be available in the next-generation XJ, which will be electric, and the next-generation Range Rover. Both will be released in 2021. Eco-friendly materials are slowly but surely spreading across the luxury car segment. Jaguar already offers the I-Pace with a Kvadrat upholstery that combines regular wool and up to 53 recycled plastic bottles per car. Audi's fourth-generation A3 is optionally available with an upholstery made largely using recycled plastic bottles, and Volvo estimates at least 25% of the plastics in its cars will be recycled starting in 2025. Environmentalist organizations are putting an increasing amount of pressure on carmakers to deliver so-called vegan interiors. A group called EarthSight recently accused several companies (including Jaguar-Land Rover and BMW) of using leather from cattle raised on illegally logged lands in Paraguay. Representatives for the British company stressed they found no evidence to verify EarthSight's claims. Related Video:
