I am selling my 1997 Land Rover Discovery. Has a 300 tdi Land Rover turbo diesel engine with automatic transmission and LT230 transfer case. When converted to diesel the engine and all diesel equipment came from a real factory Land Rover Discovery diesel, so it doesn't look cobbled together under the hood- looks ''factory clean".

Runs great, drives, stops perfectly. The truck has 149K miles but the engine has only 98K miles--nothing for these robust diesels. A/C, power windows, stereo with satellite radio all in good working order. Has a tow package, 2 rear jump seats, nice tint on the windows, and this is a non-sunroof model, so you don't have to worry about them inevitably leaking! Best of all, it gets 25 mpg in town and 30 or better on the freeway.

The interior is very clean and tidy in this truck -  Dash has no cracks, headliner appears to have been redone, all windows work,    and the overall impression is very nice.     At this moment,  the great-looking seats are not hooked up to power though, so can not be adjusted.   I am looking for the correct non-power seats however for the new buyer.

Exterior looks very nice too,  but there are patches where the clear coat has begun to fail on the roof.  It is difficult to see unless you get up high on a ladder,  but you should be aware of it.    It also looks like the roof rubbed against something in the past at sometime and made a scratch mark on the roof up near a window, again very hard to see and may even buff out.

Brakes work great, and this truck can be driven anywhere now, as it sits!   I would even recommend a road trip home in the truck to 'discover' how great of mileage you can get in a Land Rover.    This would also make a terrific off-road truck with gobs of torque.     I enjoy it on the freeway now too and it would make an ideal daily-driver.

By bidding on this Discovery, you agree to the terms of my auction.    The rules are pretty simple,   you agree that you have read the entirety of my ad and understand what I have written.    If you are the winning bidder, I expect a $500 deposit by paypal within 24 hours of the end of the auction.  I will require the balance to be paid within 7 days at the most by cash-in-hand, check, bank transfer/ deposit / etc.   Please check my feedback and bid with confidence.      I can hold the truck here for a reasonable amount of time if you want to come collect it in person or have a transport company pick it up.   Speaking of transport,   transportation will be the sole responsibility of the buyer (you).    I can provide a pone # of a transport company that has great rates and seems to pick up most of the cars we sell,  but you must contact them and arrange for the truck to be collected, and of course you are responsible for paying them.

In short, this is a great-looking, perfectly-operating and driving RARE correct Land Rover Discovery turbo-diesel conversion.    The automatics are more difficult to find, and the job has been done right!     Please message me or call with any questions.

U.S. issues new tariff threat, this time against British-built cars

Mon, Jan 27 2020

WASHINGTON — Britain is the United States' closest ally but their long friendship may be sorely tested as the two countries try to forge a new trade agreement after Britain's exit from the European Union. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Saturday in London that he was optimistic that a bilateral deal with Britain could be reached as soon as this year. But Mnuchin gave up no ground after a second meeting with his UK counterpart, Sajid Javid. Javid has insisted that Britain will proceed with a unilateral digital services tax, despite a U.S. threat to levy retaliatory tariffs on British-made autos. Mnuchin told reporters after Saturday's meeting that such taxes would discriminate against big U.S. tech companies like Alphabet Inc's Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. The UK Treasury declined to comment on the private meeting. The divide highlights the challenges ahead as the Trump administration seeks a new bilateral agreement with Britain, part of a broader push to rebalance relations with nearly all its major trading partners. The stakes are high — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pegged the trade deal with United States as a way to ease the pain of breaking with Europe, Britain's largest trade partner. U.S. President Donald Trump, has promised a "massive" trade deal to support Brexit, the product of a populist movement similar to his "America First" agenda. The goodwill and special relationship the two countries have enjoyed for decades may not count for much, experts say. "Trump is not going to be doing Johnson any favors," said Amanda Sloat, a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution in Washington. "He's not going to give him a trade deal without major concessions." Even before the digital tax issue arose, the Trump administration threatened to tax foreign car imports, which could hit British-made Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, and Honda Civic hatchback cars. Stiff U.S. trade demands include increased access for U.S. farm goods, concessions that will be difficult for Britain's entrenched natural food culture to swallow. The United States also wants Britain to change the way its National Health Service prices drugs and allow in more U.S. pharmaceuticals, which could prove politically unpopular for Johnson's government. Washington's demand that London block Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd for national security reasons could also cloud talks.

European automakers gear up for Brazilian production

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Brazil is the place to be, apparently. Toyota has been investing in the South American country, as has BMW, which announced a $261 million investment in October 2012, on the heels of an Audi factory announcement in San José Chiapa. The high-end immigration is only set to continue, as Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar-Land Rover have both announced plans to set up manufacturing operations there.
Mercedes is the big news here, as its new facility will see the German manufacturer invest 170-million euros for production of its next-generation C-Class and upcoming GLA-Class. "Brazil is an important future market. With our local production we accept the challenge and take on the competition," noted Andreas Renschler, Management Board member for Production and Procurement at Mercedes-Benz Cars and Mercedes-Benz Vans. Production is expected to begin by 2016.
Jaguar-Land Rover, meanwhile, isn't so concrete in its plans. The news of its investment in South America comes from a job posting for a plant quality manager in Brazil that was picked up by the UK's AutoCar. "Portuguese language skills will be definite advantage" for interested candidates, according to the job listing. The want ad follows on the heels of remarks by Jaguar Land Rover's Dr. Ralph Speth, who said there are "very intensive discussions" with Brazil's government. Unlike Mercedes, there's no mention of which vehicles will be produced in South America, although AutoCar thinks the Freelander, sold in the US as the LR2, is a leading contender.

Jaguar Land Rover gives Lyft $25M and a fleet of cars

Mon, Jun 12 2017

Lyft recently raised $600 million in a massive funding round, and now we know that $25 million of that came from Jaguar Land Rover, via its mobility services subsidiary InMotion. The car maker's investment in Lyft goes beyond just funds, however; it's providing Lyft drivers with a fleet of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles as part of the tie-up, and it's also going to work with the ride-hailing tech company on autonomous vehicle testing. This is yet another high-profile partner for Lyft after a spate of recent new collaborators, including Waymo and, just last week, Nutonomy. Now, Jaguar Land Rover is also joining the company's Open Platform for autonomous cars: The collaboration with InMotion will see the Jaguar Land Rover-owned company "develop and test its mobility services, including autonomous vehicles" using Lyft's platform. Lyft's ability to rapidly bring on a lot of partners in the car maker space, specifically around autonomy, may have a lot to do with rival Uber's ongoing problems, which now also include mounting calls for CEO Travis Kalanick to step back, at least temporarily, from his leadership role. Lyft has also been pretty clear about seeking to partner on autonomy, rather than pursue its own tech, which is likewise different from Uber's current approach. Uber, too, has brought automakers to the table around self-driving services and making use of its ride hailing platform for mobility service offerings. Both Uber and Lyft seem interested in being the layer that connects riders and these future services, and for automakers, it means leaving a complex and challenging part of the picture to partners with experience and expertise, rather than having to spin up that part of the tech business themselves. The fleet provision in the deal is also interesting, and suggests the partnership between the two could involve more strategic cooperative service offerings ahead of the advent of commercial self-driving tech. Lyft gaining more ground among automakers beyond longtime partner GM also explains why it was reported that the ride hailing company turned down overtures regarding a potential acquisition by the Detroit-based automaker.Written by Darrell Etherington for TechCrunch.Related Video:
