Lhd -1985 Land Rover 90 (defender) on 2040-cars
Encinitas, California, United States

The actual VIN on this car is SALLDHMF8JA916659. Because this car was imported to the US, its VIN is not recognized by Ebay. The Land Rover 90/110 Defender is the worlds most iconic and
well-respected off road passenger vehicles. It has been in use – in one form or
another – since the late 1940’s and has changed very little over that time. It
is timeless and classless: rich and poor, young and old, all love the classic
Defender look and feel. They are said to be the world most sustainable vehicle
having been on the road for so long with astonishing parts interchangeability throughout
the generations. Most examples of early Defenders that have been imported to
the US are Right Hand Drive which can become very inconvenient on US roads and
are in rough condition from tough lives in Europe and other wet/salted environments.
Despite being RHD worn-down rust-buckets, sellers are still asking ridiculously
high prices. Ours is LHD, very clean, and priced reasonably. We believe it shouldn’t
cost over $50k to own a stock unrestored diesel Land Rover. This 1985 Land Rover 90 (Defender) is in amazing condition
and took a great deal of effort to find and import properly. It was purchased
by the owner of our dealership as a personal vehicle. It was carefully selected
by our broker in Europe and was thoughtfully inspected prior to purchasing and
inspection. It was loaded in its own private 20ft container and shipped to Long
Beach. It passed US Customs inspections with flying colors and all necessary
duty/fees were paid for. It has since been cleaned-up and enjoyed on the
weekends for trips down to the beach. Our 1985 Defender is without the typical cancer and rust you
see on these cars. It – of course – has a little rust, but far from what most
have. The frame, cross members, outriggers, etc. are all rust-free. The body
has no large holes, punctures, cancer bubbling, or other nastiness. There are remnants
of some rust repair between the floor boards and the kick panels, but it has
been remedied and shouldn’t be a concern. The bulkhead is clean as is the heater-box,
seat-box, rear-tub, etc. The seats have been recently reupholstered in black vinyl
and include the OE center third front seat. The rear seats are new (black
vinyl) as is the Land Rover rubber rear cargo mat. The floors in the front are
protected by factory Land Rover floor mats/boots as is the center hump and
shifter/transfer case. It comes with newer euro-style Defender rims and tires with approximately
90% tread left (including an unused 5th spare). The front axle has
the original disc-brakes and the rear has been upgraded from drums to discs. The
spare is mounted on the rear safari-door, it is set up for another tire on the hood,
and there is a fire extinguisher mounted behind the rear bulk head. It also
comes with an updated KBX Grill and headlight bezels. On the roof, the previous
owner mounted a very sturdy steel expedition rack system with a rotating and
folding rear ladder. The rear bumper has an integrated tow ball, trailer
brakes, and flip-down factory step. The truck is powered by a 2.5 liter Turbo Diesel motor with
right over 117k miles on it. It runs great, starts right up – even on cold days
– and only blows a little smoke on cold-start. It gets great mileage and should
be able to get even better mileage with a little more tuning. The 5-speed
shifts just fine with no noticeable clutch problems/slipping. The center
differential has both high and low range as well as the ability to lock. It
functions well with no problems observed. This Land Rover 90 comes with everything that came with it from
Europe (fun little things like a Dutch license plate frame) as well as all of
the import documentation and sales information from Europe. Though it is not
currently titled in CA, title/registration will be issued with the sale of the car. There are simply too many details to mention everything in
one posting. If you are interested in this vehicle, we urge you to call and ask
us as many questions as you want. We know these cars inside and out and are
happy to field and level of questions. We are able to arrange sales and shipping worldwide and can provide shipping quotes as needed. All shipping/transport will be paid for by the buyer. If you are local or eager to make the trek to view this Land
Rover in person, please contact us to schedule a viewing. We are available by

Jaguar Land Rover develops 'transparent' A-pillar and ghost car [w/video]
Mon, Dec 15 2014Jaguar and Land Rover are known for making highly covetable luxury, performance and off-road vehicles, but the British automakers are on a bit of a technology bent lately. Keen to show that it can not only keep up but lead the way when it comes to safety and convenience features, JLR has come out with two more systems to show the way forward. JLR's new 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen system, showcased on an XJ sedan, adopts two novel approaches to getting around town. First up is the Transparent Pillar system, which uses a combination of cameras and display screens embedded in the A, B and C-pillars to make them virtually disappear. Instead of acting as blind spots limiting the driver's visibility, the system uses the roof pillars to display what's going on around the car. If there's an obstacle hidden by the A-pillars, the system shows you the potential hazard as if the pillars weren't there, and brings the obstacle to the driver's attention. If the driver turns his or her head to see a vehicle passing alongside, it projects the vehicle on the inside of the B- or C-pillar. The second technology integrated in the next-generation head-up display is the Follow-Me Ghost Car Navigation system, which takes a page out of the video-game playbook by projecting a "ghost car" on the windscreen that the driver can then "follow" instead of listening to turn-by-turn directions or looking at a map in the dashboard display. The system is similar to what Jaguar recently showcased on an F-Type for track use, but applied for more practical use on city streets and highways. The release of these systems also follows the integrated smart navigation and infotainment system displayed on the Range Rover Sport and the Transparent Bonnet showcased on the Discovery Vision concept. Though these new technologies might not be quite ready for production applications, their impressive sum total goes to show that Jaguar Land Rover is ahead of the curve when it comes to reducing driver distraction and increasing the driver's visibility. Scope out the latest systems in the press release and video below for a closer look of what the future holds for British-style luxury motoring. This content is hosted by a third party. BMW and Jaguar Land Rover to jointly develop electric car tech
Wed, Jun 5 2019FRANKFURT – BMW and Jaguar Land Rover on Wednesday said they will jointly develop electric motors, transmissions and power electronics, unveiling yet another industry alliance designed to lower the costs of developing electric cars. Both carmakers are under pressure to roll out zero-emission vehicles to meet stringent anti-pollution rules, but have struggled to maintain profit margins faced with the rising costs of making electric, connected and autonomous cars. "Together, we have the opportunity to cater more effectively for customer needs by shortening development time and bringing vehicles and state-of-the-art technologies more rapidly to market," said BMW board member Klaus Froehlich. BMW and Jaguar Land Rover said they will save costs through shared development, production planning and joint purchasing of electric car components. Both companies will produce electric drivetrains in their own manufacturing facilities, BMW said. The BMW Jaguar Land Rover pact comes as rivals FiatChrysler and Renault explore a $35 billion tie-up of the Italian-American and French carmaking groups. Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover's engineering director said, "We've proven we can build world beating electric cars but now we need to scale the technology to support the next generation of Jaguar and Land Rover products." BMW was in talks with rival Daimler about developing electric car components but was also in discussions with Jaguar Land Rover, a company it once owned, to explore an alliance on engines. BMW already has a deal to supply an 8 cylinder engine to Jaguar Land Rover. Carmakers are increasingly open to sharing electric car parts because the technology is expensive and because customers no longer buy a car based on what engine a vehicle has. "Carmakers are much less precious about sharing electric car technology because it is much harder to create product differentiation with electric car tech. They all accelerate fast, and everybody can do quality and ride and handling," according to Carl-Peter Forster a former chief executive of Tata Motors and a former BMW executive. Jaguar Land Rover is still run by former BMW managers, including Ralf Speth the company's chief executive who spent 20 years at BMW prior to joining JLR, and Wolfgang Ziebart, the engineer who oversaw Jaguar's I-Pace electric car program, who is a former head of research and development at BMW.
