This is a RHD Land Rover Defender 90, legally imported from the "Still" United Kingdom. Since arriving through Galveston last month, it has been inspected for compliance for import regulations and delivered to my home in North Texas. I took it down for inspection and got the temporary title issued, so its running and driving with all of the legal documents.
The engine is a Turbo charged 2.5 liter diesel, which runs well, the transmission is manual and works well also. We just finished washing and cleaning it up, it has some rust spots and paint patches like most vehicles of this age and type. It's been a working truck for most of its life. Land Rovers get used as agricultural vehicles mostly, but they make great recreational vehicles because of their off road capabilities, they also make daily drivers that never fail to raise interest. Because of the diesel engine the MPG is very good, if you plan to use this as a driver you can expect around 30 MPG. I am planning to take this vehicle to the Texas State Fair this Sunday 28th, where it will be on display with a selection of other Land Rovers and Range Rovers. Is Jaguar's 3 Series-fighter the brand's last chance?
Wed, 16 Oct 2013The upcoming line of compact 3 Series-fighters from Jaguar, often referred to as the Jaguar XS, could consist of a sedan, wagon and possibly a coupe and GT model (think BMW 5 Series GT). The car's all-aluminum architecture also will provide the basis for two new sports utility vehicles. Just how important is the much-touted "baby Jag" project to parent company Jaguar Land Rover? A JLR executive reportedly says the brand's survival is directly linked to the success of the XS, codenamed X760, Autocar reports.

"If the X760 fails, it will probably be the end for the [Jaguar] brand," the executive says. But Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's global brand director, claims Jaguar will "build the most advanced, most efficient, most refined car in that [compact luxury sedan] segment. Not almost as good as, but better than the best in the world."
Jaguar Land Rover and Chery investing in Chinese plant
Sat, 24 Nov 2012While the European auto market for Jaguar and Land Rover is waning, Chinese car buyers can't get enough of the British marques. To meet that demand, Tata Motors, parent company of Jag and Land Rover, is partnering with Chinese automaker Chery Automobile Co.
The two announced plans to invest $1.75 billion to build a new plant and create a new, China-focused brand. 2014 is the target for completion of the factory. Jaguars and Land Rovers built at the facility will be the first ever produced outside the UK according to the Associated Press. The JV will be called Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd.
The announcement comes less than a month after JLR announced it would open a design studio in China. It's not clear from the reports whether the two announcements are part of the same JV or two separate plans.

I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.
