The body needs to be bolted, the exhaust needs a section repaired, lights/wiring needs to be finished, front seats need to be upholstered and the rear seats have a couple spots that need to be repaired, fuel tank needs to be installed, needs new clutch master/slave cylinder, rear door panel needed, brake calipers need to be installed, headliner needs to be installed"

  This is my personal D90 I have been restoring. It is being built from the frame up and is about 90% done. Will be a great truck for someone willing to put in that last bit of work.

Chassis:
  It has a galvanized chassis(D90 300 Tdi spec), 2" Terrafirma suspension and steering damper, 24 spline axles with disc brakes, power brakes, power steering, genuine Boost alloy wheels(5), 255/85R16E(33.3x10"10 Ply) BFG MT KM2's(5), 300 Tdi 4 cylinder direct injected inter-cooled and turbocharged diesel engine(up to 28mpg in a D90), R380 56A suffix J 5 speed manual transmission, LT230 2 speed transfer case with factory cross drilled input shaft.
Body:
  It has a D90 Station Wagon body; it's solid, only a few spots of surface corrosion noted in the pics; it has and inexpensive flat black paint job, I like it, but if you're looking for a factory paint job it will need to be painted; full frame front doors with wind up windows, push button handles, D90 door panels; full frame rear door with heated rear window, washer and wiper, spare mount, but no rear door panel; both solid and folding front windshield hinges; alloy roof and sides with lockable sliding glass windows; full LeSalle molded fiber glass headliner front and rear with section for stereo and speakers; silver grill and facia; front bucket seats; center console/cubby box/arm rest and a UK center front seat(either can be fitted); all front seats need upholstery; 4 rear jump seats; lap and shoulder belts for the front bucket seats, lap belts for all the rest; factory insulation under the hood, on the firewall, and under the transmission tunnel;
What I know is needed:
  Finish bolting the body together; finish hooking up the lights/wiring; repair section of exhaust and install it; either the clutch master or slave cylinder needs to be replaced; I was also going to replace the head gasket, manifold gasket, and timing belt just to be safe;
  I have almost 200 pictures of the full restoration process as well, so let me know if you'd like to see more, or if you'd like to come see it. It has basically everything, just "some assembly required."
  It is sold As-Is, with no warranty. It is also listed for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early. Buyer responsible for shipping or pick up. $1,000 deposit due within 24 hours of auction end. Remainder due within 7 days. Feel free to ask any questions, or make an appointment to check it out, but please don't bid unless you are going to buy it. Thanks!

BMW X6 M said to lap the 'Ring in 8:20

Fri, Jul 17 2015

Bimmer Today reports that the German rag Auto Zeitung ran an Audi RS3 and a BMW X6 M around the Nurburgring together, and the hotted-up sports activity vehicle came in just five seconds behind the white-hot hatch. Driven by 'Ring regular Horst von Saurma, the RS3 ran its lap in 8 minutes, 15 seconds, and the X6 M ran an 8:20. If those times are accurate, that makes the X6 M the second fastest production SUV on the lap-time list according to Wikipedia: ahead of it is the 550-hp Range Rover Sport SVR, which ran a time of 8:14. That time puts BMW's 575-horsepower, 5,200-pound SUV four seconds ahead of the time registered by the last-gen, 555-hp X6 M, and well ahead of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S that Sport Auto clocked an 8:34 with. It would not, however, match the predictions that X6 M project manager Herbert Bayerl made for it in an interview with Sport Auto earlier this year. Bayerl said "The new BMW X6 M moves at the level of M3," speaking of the E92 BMW M3 that Sport Auto ran around the 'Ring in 8:05. It is, though, two seconds faster than the E46 M3, which lapped in 8:22. Bayerl called out the Range Rover Sport SVR directly, saying, "We have been traveling much faster in testing and have undercut the time of Range Rover several times," and "We don't need any special attachments to go faster." Auto Zeitung's report on the lap is only for subscribers so we'll have to wait for more official news. For the apples-to-apples comparison we'll be looking forward to Sport Auto's hot lap, then we'll know if the Range Rover has anything to fear. Related Video:

Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen

Thu, Jul 23 2020

Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen.  The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
