We have had this truck for almost 10 years and the wife decided she wanted me to build her something different so we are going to let the green beast have a new home.  Truck was imported through a registered importer by the previous owner.  This is a factory 1997 LHD Defender with 300tdi engine. Ebay doesn't recognize the VIN: SALLDHM68VA109087 After buying the truck the following items were done:

-new doors

-rebuilt axles

-conversion to rebuilt automatic transmission and transfer case---with proper interior console

-all new bushing, OME spring and Bilstein shocks.

-full width intercooler added, larger turbo, head rebuilt, aluminum radiator

-second fuel tank added under passenger seat

-carpet removed and linex applied to all areas that were carpeted

-Color change --full repaint to Willow Green

-new door seals and window seals

-second a/c system added under passenger seats

-rear Webasto diesel heater

-new rear cross member and fuel tank

-waxoil applied to frame and inside of doors

-MUD Defender Counsel for mounting the radio in the dash---ipod capable radio

-pyrometer and boost gauges

-ARB front bumper---no winch

-folding side steps

-led park and turn signals

-stainless mounting hardware for doors and roll cage

-tinted windows

Truck originally had about 80,000 miles on it, after the partial restoration and change to the automatic transmission the speedometer was replaced with a new unit and shows the mileage since the restoration which is roughly  59,000 miles.  Other features the truck has are:

-rear wiper and defrost

-load adjustable head lights

-sun roof

-a/c front and rear

-seating and seat belts for 9 people

-Snorkel

-full roll cage

This truck will not win any speed races, but will take you places that few vehicles can.  I would drive this vehicle anywhere…again not in any hurry, but she has never let us down.  The transmission was just serviced and new lines were put to the transmission cooler as one was seeping.  New air filter was installed.  Currently getting between 20mpg to 24mpg depending on how hard you press the little pedal and will run on biodiesel.  Paint is not perfect with a few rock chips and dings here and there, but still has a great shine.  Interior dash has a few small cracks but no major imperfection.  Has a free and clear title in my name which states it is a 1997 Defender.  Truck is being sold AS IS.  If you are in California you need to do your own research as to whether this truck can be registered there.  This truck will be missed, but it also gives me an excuse to start another project when she is gone….so happy bidding.

Jaguar likely moving HQ to Britain's most iconic racetrack

Fri, Feb 26 2016

Jaguar Land Rover looks increasingly likely to make Britain's iconic Silverstone race track the automaker's new headquarters. There isn't a final deal in place yet, but the British Racing Drivers' Club, which owns the circuit, plans to have the membership vote on whether the negotiations should move forward, according to Autosport. BRDC leaders already presented the plan to members, and they were open to the idea. "The response was favorable so we will now set up an EGM for the members to vote and give the board a mandate to proceed with the deal and continue with the negotiations with JLR," BRDC president Derek Warwick told Autosport. There's no guarantee yet that JLR actually completes the deal. "There's still a lot of work to do to get the deal to where both sides are happy and more importantly what's right for the BRDC and its members." Warwick said. Rumors in early December suggested JLR was among the firms submitting bids to purchase the track, and the automaker allegedly offered 22.7 million pounds ($34.1 million at the time) for it. The company would also reportedly invest nearly $80 million to renovate the site, including adding a museum, experience center, hotel, and offices. The track would still be open for motorsport, too. Silverstone has hosted the Formula One British Grand Prix many times over the decades, and organizers signed a 17-year deal in 2009 to keep things that way well into the future. Series like the FIA World Endurance Championship, MotoGP, and British Touring Car Championship also compete there. Related Video:

The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers

Fri, Jun 24 2016

It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.

Jaguar Land Rover likely to build US plant... in three years

Mon, Mar 9 2015

Jaguar Land Rover may very well open a plant in the United States, but the latest word has it that it'll be another three years or so before the company even makes a decision on the matter. The prospect first came up on our radar back in October when we reported that JLR was considering building a plant in the South. Georgia governor Nathan Deal even flew to the UK to solicit JLR's business. Former parent-company chairman Ratan Tata subsequently confirmed the idea was under consideration last month. And now the British automaker's CEO has told Automotive News that JLR will need a US assembly plant to fuel its growth in the vital North American market, but that'll it'll take a while to get going. The reasons for the delay, according to chief executive Ralf Speth, are threefold. For one thing, the automaker has its hands full at the moment opening plants in other locations: last year it opened one in China and this year it opened one in Brazil. It also recently opened a new SVO facility, an electric-propulsion R&D center and a new engine plant all in the UK, and can only handle building so many new facilities at a time. JLR will also need US suppliers of aluminum components to step up their game, as the company relies heavily on aluminum construction for their vehicles. US automakers shifting to aluminum for models like the new Ford F-150 will encourage American suppliers to get into the game, but it may be a while before they're up to Jaguar Land Rover standards. Finally, JLR will need to increase its sales potential in the US in order to justify local production. Speth says the company would need one model of which it could sell 30,000 to 40,000 units in the US alone, and it sold less than 18,000 units of its best-selling the Range Rover Sport here last year. In fact the entire Jaguar brand sold less than 16,000 units throughout all of last year in America, with Land Rover selling far more at over 50,000 units to contribute to total sales of over 67,000 units.
