1989 Land Rover Defender 110 County Sw 12 Seater 2.5 Turbo Diesel 100% Original on 2040-cars
Peterborough, United Kingdom
Welcome to the sale of my much loved 1989 Land Rover Defender 110 County Station Wagon 12 Seater D Turbo. Vin Number SALLDHMB7FA397393 Engine Number 19J29130C This Landy was first registered in August 1989, it has had 7 owners in that time and has covered a little over 132000 miles (averages to 5300 miles per year) I can Guarantee this mileage to be correct as i have every MOT (UK yearly safety check certificate) from its first in 1992 and i will put a full 12 month MOT on the truck upon sale. The truck sits on its original chassis, and has all the original mechanical parts (engine, gearbox, axles etc) it was built with, making it a perfect import vehicle for the US or Canada once it comes of age next august. In the past 6 months the truck has had loads of money spent, it has had new cambelt, water-pump and radiator, rear half of exhaust, 5 new wheels and tyres, new snorkel, new headlights, new front bumper, front td5 grill set, A bar, side steps, full length roof rack, rear ladder, rear bumper corners, heavy duty rear wheel carrier, all new heavy duty suspension shocks and springs, new steering guard and front diff guard, chequer plate wing tops, air horns, command console, steering wheel, privacy glass in rear, full length canopy / awning, it also comes with power steering as standard, a heater that works, rear heated window, sunroof, towbar, 12 seats with seatbelts and the original Land Rover high-lift jack kit. Being as original as this makes it a very rare thing to find and a very sound investment, it is without a doubt the best defender i have ever owned it drives as well as any 5 year old defender you put it against and looks better than most and will prove a lot more reliable if looked after correctly. As you will know defenders are not built for comfort but the County was the top of the hill in defender spec so its a really usable every day truck its starts first time every time, its puffs a little grey smoke first thing as they all do, but this clears in seconds and does not return all day, its reasonable on fuel i average around 23 miles per gallon of diesel (UK Gallon = 1.2 US). As i mentioned the engine and gearbox are the original 1989 units so will not win any speed races but this is the turbo diesel model so keeps up with traffic easily and will sit at 60 / 70 all day long if that is what you want it do do, the gearchange is good and smooth although the pedal is a little heavy, the servo assisted brakes are good and pull up well for a 3 ton 25 year old truck and it performs all this stuff in a straight line. Off the beaten track is where these really come into their own and everything on this truck it ready for a outback camping trip, it will pretty much drive anywhere you and 11 passenger point it, all the 4x4 system hi/low transfer box works perfectly as you would expect As you can see the car is stunning, it has just had a full respray in frozen white which makes it look very modern (it was originally faded blue which looked very tired) and gets it noticed where ever it goes and with the roof rack it stands 8 feet tall so you don't really lose it in car parks. the bonnet is the original and has dents all over it, i never did this because it reminds me of the character of the truck and it wears them well. The interior again is original and in amazing condition considering the age or the truck, there is a little wear hole in the drivers seat and the middle rear seat sags on the edge but otherwise all the seat faces could be new, the rears of the middle seats have some tears from loading and the roof lining is nice and clean but sags a little but his wouldn't be a big job for a re-trimmer if you want the truck mint. The carpets in the front are worn but the rest of the carpets are in good order. The chassis of the truck again is in very good condition and looks to have been regularly wax-oiled to prevent any corrosion which i will have done again prior to shipping. The truck for all its brilliance has a few niggling things, these are, the new steering wheel does not cancel the indicators so something worth remembering, there is no radio although the CD player works fine and has an av jack but the unit needs replacing, its old a sounds rubbish. I think that's about all i can say about this Lovely Landy. All Questions Viewings Trials and Checks are welcome and indeed encouraged, i will answer asap. This Land Rover is currently in daily use and for sale in the UK, i will continue to drive it until either its sold or i replace it with my next toy. Upon sale i can either deliver the car to your agent in the UK or i can store the truck in a secure container until it becomes eligible for import in august 2014 at which time i will deliver it to the port and safely see it aboard a container ship bound for you nearest east coast port where you will need to meet it with all the relevant registration documentation (which i have) a CBP form, a HS-7 declaration and an EPA form 3520-1. the reason for the time delay is that once 25 years old this truck becomes exempt from the EPA and DOT regulations on imported vehicles so just the 2.5% import duty and the registration and your driving your new defender in the first week of September. The Buy It Now prices includes insurance, storage and shipping to the east coast of the US. Any offers accepted will not include this and you as the buyer will be responsible for arranging collection and shipping unless otherwise agreed before hand. Payment is to be made via bank transfer, i will require at least 50% of the payment within 7 days of purchase and the other 50% Prior to dispatch or upon collection Sorry the vehicle can only be released upon receipt of cleared funds. Hopefully i have answered most questions within this listing but please feel free to get in touch. |

Consumer Reports no longer recommends Honda Civic
Mon, Oct 24 2016Consumer Reports annual Car Reliability Survey is out, and yes, there are some big surprises. First and foremost? The venerable publication no longer recommends the Honda Civic. In fact, aside from the walking-dead CR-Z and limited-release Clarity fuel-cell car, the Civic is the only Honda to miss out on CR's prestigious nod. At the opposite end there's a surprise as well – Toyota and Lexus remain the most reliable brands on the market, but Buick cracked the top three. That's up from seventh last year, and the first time for an American brand to stand on the Consumer Reports podium. Mazda's entire lineup earned Recommended checks as well. Consumer Reports dinged the Civic for its "infuriating" touch-screen radio, lack of driver lumbar adjustability, the limited selection of cars on dealer lots fitted with Honda's popular Sensing system, and the company's decision to offer LaneWatch instead of a full-tilt blind-spot monitoring system. Its score? A lowly 58. The Civic isn't the only surprise drop from CR's Recommended ranks. The Audi A3, Ford F-150, Subaru WRX/STI, and Volkswagen Jetta, GTI, and Passat all lost the Consumer Reports' checkmark. On the flipside, a number of popular vehicles graduated to the Recommended ranks, including the BMW X5, Chevrolet Camaro, Corvette, and Cruze, Hyundai Santa Fe, Porsche Macan, and Tesla Model S. Perhaps the biggest surprise is the hilariously recall-prone Ford Escape getting a Recommended check – considering the popularity of Ford's small crossover, this is likely a coup for the brand, as it puts the Escape on a level playing field with the Recommended Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, and Nissan Rogue. While Ford is probably happy to see CR promote the Escape, the list wasn't as kind for every brand. For example, of the entire Fiat Chrysler Automobiles catalog, the ancient Chrysler 300 was the only car to score a check – there wasn't a single Dodge, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati, or Ram on the list. That hurts. FCA isn't alone at the low end, either. GMC, Jaguar Land Rover, Mini, and Mitsubishi don't have a vehicle on CR's list between them, while brands like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Nissan, Lincoln, Infiniti, and Cadillac only have a few models each. Question of the Day: What's the greatest British car ever?
Fri, Jul 15 2016The British automotive industry has produced everything from high-production econo-commuters to staggeringly luxurious oligarch-wagons, along the way winning plenty of races and building plenty of beautiful machines. The original Mini led directly to the past half-century of transverse-engine, front-wheel-drive cars built everywhere, the MGB put the sporty little convertible into everyone's reach, and the Morris Oxford became the most beloved motor vehicle in India. So many to choose from, but we want you to pick one. What will it be? Related Video:
Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen
Thu, Jul 23 2020Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen. The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.
