After 2 Series and a 1995 USA Defender, I knew what it would take to create my Dream Rover.  This is it.  She is a 1986, ex-MOD with a conversion to an early 1990's Discovery 300Tdi motor.  She has the T-177 transmission that shifts smoothly and has been known to run at 85 mph all day long.  It isn't much fun, but it can be done.  The color is a lovely light green that is very distinctive.  The body is dry and rot free as is the frame.  There is a minor age issue with some patchwork done to the driver's floor in the past that has been recently addressed. The motor has excellent power, the transmission shifts smoothly and it is as dry as an ex-MOD will likely keep its occupants.  I have installed solar blanket in the area above the front seats to cut down on heat and it works pretty well (even in the South Florida Summer heat) To this wonderful vehicle, I added all weather mats, an XM radio receiver Alpine deck in a Tuffy box and a set of MB Quart marine 6x9 speakers enclosed in Tuffy enclosures in the rear.  Also in the Tuffy box, I have installed a 3 plug inverter to satisfy all ac power needs that might arise on an adventure.  I have exchanged the modern plastic turn signals in front for the screw-on MOD units at remarkable expense, and also added fog lamps.  The seats are all in good condition with the rear bench pads only suffering from staining.  One bench's back pad has a tear to which I have not attended but does not prevent comfortable use.  The top is in excellent shape with one small tear in a flap over the driver's door.  All the window plastic is clear and with only minimal abrasion.  Because it is a Florida vehicle that I like to drive barefoot, I purchased Bentley-grade sheepskin floor mats that were custom made in the UK for this D90.  In as few words as possible, if you really want the perfect Defender with just enough stuff to make it livable and enjoyable without losing the rugged appeal that is the reason for D90s appearing on so many magazine and catalog covers then this is your new truck.  It is not inexpensive nor should it be, this vehicle has all the right elements, all the right mod-cons (even AC, which I never considered, can be affixed given the Disco motor) and the perfect vintage look.  Feel free to ask questions.  I am happy to assist in shipping to the extent that I am able.  The VIN number is SALLDVAC7AA269353 but the little ebay box does not like that number.

Thanks for looking.

Going high-tech, the 4x4 way

Is It An Off-Road Adventure Or Just A Walk In The Park?
I remember having to get out and lock hubs and shift into neutral to engage low range.
Coming off press previews of the 2013 Land Rover Range Rover and the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that involved some heavy-duty off-road rock climbing, I'm simply amazed at the capabilities that these vehicles possess. But even more impressive (or troubling depending on your perspective) is the relative ease with which you can operate these vehicles in seemingly impossible terrain.

Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations could build standalone models

Sun, Mar 8 2015

Jaguar Land Rover may be set to turn its Special Vehicle Operations division into something much bigger than a mere in-house tuner. Bloomberg spoke to the head of JLR's high-performance, customization outfit, John Edwards, who hinted that his team may move beyond simply modifying F-Types, Range Rovers and the like. "We're certainly looking at that, and we've got the capability to do that," Edwards told AN. "Is there an opportunity for us to do a completely standalone car? Maybe." Such a move into full-scale, standalone models would be a big step, particularly for a division that's still kind of in its infancy. Bloomberg references the success of Mercedes-AMG, but the German division has had the benefit of decades of growth. AMG spent years and years building high-performance versions of all manner of mainstream Mercedes vehicles, before moving onto cars like the SLS AMG and AMG GT, which have no mainstream analog. In other words, AMG had a long time to develop a reputation building high-performance vehicles that people know and recognize before it moved into building vehicles of its own. We aren't entirely convinced that SpecOps wouldn't benefit from taking a similar approach, delivering additional SVR vehicles, like the rumored XE SVR, before striking out on its own. We'd like to know what you think, though. Is it already time for Special Vehicle Operations to build standalone models, or should it learn to walk before it runs by modifying more of Jaguar Land Rover's existing product. Have your say in Comments. Related Video:

Jaguars and Land Rovers to feature in 007's Spectre

Mon, Feb 9 2015

James Bond may be more closely associated with Aston Martin, but Jaguars and Land Rovers have featured in 007 movies new and old. Skyfall, the most recent installment in the series, opened with Bond and Moneypenny ripping through the streets of Istanbul in a Defender and saw M being chauffeured around London in an XJ. And the upcoming feature Spectre is set to feature some of JLR's finest as well. While Bond himself will be piloting the new Aston Martin DB10, the movie will also feature a Jag and a couple of Landies. The Jaguar C-X75 concept, as we know, will be part of a chase scene against the DB10, now revealed to be set in Rome. But the movie will also include the new Range Rover Sport SVR (with what looks like some auxiliary lighting) and at least two Defenders modified by JLR Special Operations to "Big Foot" specifications with 37-inch off-road tires, upgraded suspensions and added bodywork protection. As you may recall, a couple of months ago a fleet of nine vehicles used in the film were stolen from a garage in Dusseldorf, including five Range Rover Sports. This is the first confirmation we're seeing of any of them being SVR models, or of the Big Foot Defenders being part of the mix as well. The scenes including the Land Rovers have already been filmed in Austria, and we're looking forward to seeing them all on the silver screen come November. Broccoli's EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. These will include the Jaguar C-X75, Range Rover Sport SVR and Defender Big Foot, which have been provided by Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations. The Jaguar C-X75 will feature in a spectacular car chase sequence through Rome alongside the Aston Martin DB10. The C-X75 vehicles used in filming have been built in collaboration with Williams Advanced Engineering facility in Oxfordshire, England.
