The 2012 Range Rover Autobiography Ultimate Edition was a special edition produced at the end of the L322's
production run, with only 500 built worldwide of which 50 or less were for the U.S. market. I'm the second owner
of this Autobiography Ultimate, finished in Roussillon Red over Ivory and Dark Cherry semi-aniline leather
interior. It was originally registered in Kansas, and was then brought to California where I purchased it. My
Range Rover currently has under 29,900 miles (which may go up as I still use it occasionally), and drives just as
well as it did when new (granted, I didn't buy this one new, but this is my 5th of this generation and I've owned
every other one from new). This was a truly special Rover, with an original MSRP of $170,000!
Options and features include Autobiography Package: exterior design package, Rover Towing Prep, semi-aniline
leather seats, leather center console sides, lower dashboard, cubby lid, headliner and door panels, 1/2 wood and
leather steering wheel and gear knob, reclining heated and ventilated rear seats with winged headrests and front
seat control, LOGIC 7 1200-watt surround sound system, 4-zone climate control and glass, adaptive cruise control,
Ultimate Edition Package (dual, removable integrated rear seat iPad devices and headphones, individual business
seating for rear passengers with multi-position stowable business table, center console beverage chiller, glass
flutes with deployable holder, Oxford leather dash topper, seat side valances, front and rear console side trim,
door stowage pockets and loadspace trim, exclusive Kalahari wood trim detail on door, door top rolls, and front and
rear console and business tables, polished aluminum door switch surrounds unique Teak wood loadspace floor with
anti-slip inlay and polished stainless steel hardware, unique Ultimate Edition badge, unique 20" multi-spoke
diamond-turned alloy wheels, premium metal side vent finish, polished stainless steel lower tailgate finisher, body
color grille surround, illuminated treadplates, power deployable side steps, and more). This also has the
electronic rear locker. In addition, this vehicle is covered under remaining factory warranty until June of 2016
(I believe) or 50,000 miles, and can be extended with the dealer (probably ~$4k for a Land Rover factory warranty
that goes out another 4 years / 75k or 100k miles).
The exterior is in great condition, with very minor wear commensurate with the low miles. There is a small chip on
the windshield which happened in the last couple of months; however, the windshield was replaced late last year.
The leather is in great condition; there is however a small scuff on the steering wheel leather near the 11 o'clock
position. The rear loadspace shows some use (scuffs on the wood that can be cleaned up, a few marks on the leather
near the floor). Of course, the iPads and champagne flutes come with the vehicle.
I have added the factory crossbars (without the full rail system) and a Land Rover OEM ski rack, and also replaced
the tires with 265/50R20 Nitto Terra Grappler G2s (which are phenomenal in the snow. These tires have ~2000 miles
on them).

It's a V8 party! Lexus IS 500, Cadillac Escalade and more | Autoblog Podcast #667

Fri, Feb 26 2021

In this week's Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Road Test Editor Zac Palmer. It's all V8s all the time this week, starting with the Land Rover Defender V8 unveiling, Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance debut and pricing announcement on the Jeep Wrangler 392. Next, they move on to what they've been driving. Spoiler alert: That means more V8 talk. Zac has been driving the Cadillac Escalade with the 6.2-liter V8 and BMW M550i with its 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8. Greg and Zac take a pause from the V8 theme by discussing their shared time in our long-term Acura TLX. From this, they segue into a "Spend My Money" feature about garage lifts to finish the show. 2023 J.D. Power APEAL Study shows new-car customer satisfaction scores slip

Thu, Jul 20 2023

J.D. Power survey results have been slightly up but mostly down for automakers this year, literally. In February, the 2023 Vehicle Dependability Study showed an overall decline compared the 2022 a month before the Customer Service Index Study did the same. The trend reversed in June with a better overall score on the 2023 U.S. Electric Vehicle Consideration Study than in 2022, then declined again the same month on with a lower overall score on the 2023 Initial Quality Study. The declines continue with the 2023 J.D. Power U.S. Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout (APEAL) Study, overall satisfaction among the 84,555 respondents down two points overall compared to 2022, to 845 out of 1,000 points. Because last year's score dropped compared to 2021, this year marks the first consecutive decline in the study's 28-year history. The study tries to "[measure] owners' emotional attachment and level of excitement with new vehicle" after 90 days of ownership by asking new owners to rate 37 attributes in 10 areas around the vehicle, such as the feeling they get when they hit the accelerator. Satisfaction with nine of the attributes is down this year versus last, fuel economy the only segment to show better results with 15 points more satisfaction. Styling and infotainment are big drags on satisfaction. Responses to new car exterior looks tallied 888 points, down from 894 last year, the largest drop in this year's study. On the digital side, less than half of those surveyed this year said they prefer using a manufacturer's built-in infotainment. From 70% of respondents in 2020 preferring to use a manufacturer's in-house software to play audio instead of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, that's 56% in 2023. Going all-in on Google appears to have the best effect. J.D. Power said that vehicles with both Google's Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) and Google Automotive Services (GAS) "score higher in the infotainment category than those with no AAOS whatsoever. AAOS without GAS receives the lowest scores for infotainment of the three categories."  Frank Hanley, senior director of auto benchmarking at J.D. Power, said, "Despite the technology and design innovations that manufacturers put into new vehicles, owners are lukewarm about them. While innovations like charging pads, vehicle apps and advanced audio features should enhance an owner’s experience, this is not the case when problems are experienced.

Best cars for snow and ice in 2023 and 2024

Tue, Jan 23 2024

What's the best car for snow? The real answer is "the one with winter tires." What do we mean by that? You could have the finest, most advanced all-wheel-drive system or four-wheel drive in the world, but if you're running all-seasons (the spork of tires), your fancy four-wheeler won't matter much. The odds are, any vehicle on the road running good winter tires will probably perform adequately in slippery, slushy and/or snowy road conditions. (Here's a more complete explanation of why winter tires are totally worth it). In other words, you don't really need any of the cars on this list. With a set of winter tires, countless others will do the job, and even these will be at their best with proper rubber. You can find a variety of winter tires for your car here at Tire Rack. Keep in mind that you will need a full set of four snow tires for safety and performance, no matter what you're driving. The days of your dad putting just two snows on the family truckster to get it moving in a straight line are long gone. Don't get us wrong, getting a car that performs well in snow and ice is still a worthy criteria for car buyers. According to the U.S. Transportation Department, 70% of Americans live in places that get snow and ice. And much of the country has been blasted with arctic air for much of the new year. So let's look at the cars. First, we're highlighting choices for a variety of buyers and price points. Second, we're not just considering snow; we're considering general wintery conditions people will experience driving to work or school. As such, these are all choices with advanced all-wheel-drive systems, usually with "torque-vectoring" systems that not only automatically shunt power front and back, but side to side between the rear axles. Most have extra ground clearance for getting through deep snow, and we prefer those vehicles with more responsive steering, throttles and transmissions that provide a greater sense of vehicle control in slippery conditions.    Acura RDX Read our Acura RDX Review Acura's Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system was one of the first to offer torque-vectoring, and besides often being touted for its ability to greatly enhanced dry-road handling, its benefits in the slick stuff can be profound. It's actually surprising that Acura hasn't leaned into this capability further by offering more rugged versions of its vehicles.
