San Mateo, California, United States

Remarkably clean 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II. This is the third year of the Discovery Series II, and an unusual LE model. It is a super-straight, totally RUST-FREE DII throughout, to include chassis, undercarriage, roofline and gutters, door panels, fenders, quarter panels, door sills, rocker panels and tailgate areas. This is a TWO-OWNER DII, originally sold at Land Rover of Encino in Anaheim, in Southern California, where it lived until 2004 when it relocated to Placerville, in the central Valley. A CALIFORNIA LAND ROVER ITS WHOLE LIFE until now. Original purchaser owned until sold to the second owner, a computer designer in San Ramon in late 2012. Completely stock and original. NO towing, NO off-roading, One minor accident reported ( the right front plastic is somewhat bruised as pictured) and NO issues. FLAWLESS CARFAX report, and it scores 50 out of 30-54 rating. It is fairly loaded with most Power amenities except DVD system. It also has the very desirable Central Differential Lock ( CDL), unique to only a couple of years in the DII, this being one of them. This Discovery II has the dual Power-sunroof option ( both work fine and DO NOT leak), roof bars, unique KALAHARI alloy wheels and factory Tow package ( although nothing has been towed). Stock, reliable 4.0L BOSCH engine. 171K original freeeway miles. Less than 1000 miles on a complete top-end rebuild, to include: Cylinder heads hot tanked and magna-fluxed Resurfaced cylinder heads 3-angle valve job New head gaskets New valve cover gaskets All-new exhaust gaskets New shims New seals New Plenum intake kit revision No engine issues or other drama; the powertrain runs GREAT. This Discovery II runs and drives VERY well and drives nicely both in town and in the highway. There are NO service lights on ( NO TC, CHECK ENGINE, ABS or HDC lights turned off or reset). Considering its vintage, This Discovery II is remarkably clean, and the photos do not do it justice~! The 2001 SE is one of the best years to own. It is turn-key, WITHOUT the usual head-gasket issues nor overheating, and it will make a great traveler or off-road trekker.
Clean headliner, without any significant sagging, staining or damage. Beautiful Forest-Green finish shines nicely, and looks very sharp. No blemishes, fading nor oxidation of the clearcoat or finish, to include the roof and hood areas. Nice factory-optional 18" KALAHARI alloy wheels with radial tires mounted on them; they have approximately 90% tread all around or better. Feel free to EM or call with pertinent questions or serious inquiries. I can be reached at (650) 430-4660, no later than 9pm PST, please. I have spent over 20 years in this great country's military and have owned Land Rovers of various types and vintage for nearly 35 years. While I am not a mechanic, I am an avid Land Rover enthusiast ( I own four others) and consider myself fairly well-versed on most of the Land Rover quirks and have assessed this DII as a VERY solid, straight and rust-free example of a Series II Land Rover Discovery. Honest CARFAX REPORT. CLEAR title. NO pets or children in it. Always adult-owned, and its condition reflects it.
* I reserve the right to end this listing at any time prior to the end of the auction, should a serious offer or a BUY-IT-NOW offer present itself. I am glad to assist with NATIONWIDE or OVERSEAS delivery at the most economical shipping rate available. I can do all coordination from here, and you pay the transporter cost directly to the shipper upon receipt of the Discovery. Should you be the winning bidder, I would like to receive payment within THREE business days, please. Cashiers check or Bank draft are preferred. Personal, business or annuity checks may be utilized, but must clear funds source prior to any transportation arrangements being made. Another option is a Bank wire transfer to the local CHASE Bank branch here in town. That expedites the process considerably and allows for faster shipping arrangements. Upon receipt of payment, I will overnight the title and Bill of sale to the winning bidder. Finally, PLEASE be sure to ask any and all questions prior to placing a bid, and prior to the end of the auction. If you have a ZERO rating, you MUST contact me in advance, prior to placing any bids. Not doing so will get you blocked and prevented from any further bidding in my listings. NO EXCEPTIONS. Please ensure that your source of funds is in place BEFORE placing a bid or making an offer. We are all adults here; let's not engage in silly games because it is counterproductive and a waste of time for all. Thank you for your interest~! |

Regulators consider adding more carmakers to Takata recall
Tue, Sep 29 2015Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal has been getting a lot of press recently, but the Takata airbag inflator affair could be grabbing headlines again soon. According to Bloomberg, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is contemplating an expansion to the campaign that could add seven automakers to the 12 already affected. They are Jaguar Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Spartan Motors, Suzuki, Tesla, Volvo Trucks, and VW Group. To be clear, there's no recall for any of these automakers, yet. The government is simply asking for a full list of vehicles that each of them have with Takata-supplied inflators containing ammonium nitrate propellant. The agency is concerned this substance could play a roll in the ruptures. "NHTSA is considering not only whether to issue an administrative order that would coordinate the remedy programs associated with the current Takata recalls, but also whether such an order should include expansion of the current recalls," the letters say. All seven can be viewed, here. From a report supplied by Takata, the government already knows that the company supplied 887,055 inflators with ammonium-nitrate propellant to VW and 184,926 of them to Tesla. In an incident during the summer, a side airbag allegedly burst in a 2015 VW Tiguan. In early September, NHTSA put out a revised report that there were 23.4 million inflators to be replaced in 19.2 million vehicles in the US. An earlier accounting from the agency had about 34 million of the parts in 30 million cars. High humidity is still believed to be among the biggest risk factors for the ruptures. Although, if ammonium nitrate also gets the blame, some already recalled models might need to be repaired again. Related Video:

Jaguar CEO says people just don't want EVs right now
Mon, Jun 22 2015"Customers are not impressed with it currently." These are the words of one Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, spoke at the Automotive News Europe Congress in Birmingham, England. The "it" Speth is referring to is battery technology, which he characterized as "too heavy, too expensive," and with power density that's "too low." That all could go some way towards explaining why the British automaker has yet to bring an electric vehicle to market, why it killed the C-X75 hybrid-turbine supercar project, and why it only recently started offering hybrid versions of its Range Rover models (and has yet to offer them in the United States). That doesn't mean the company won't pursue electric propulsion in the future, though. According to Automotive News Europe, Speth forecasts that "the next generation of batteries will be higher density, lower weight and the cost will come down." What he didn't say, exactly, is when he expects that next generation of battery tech to come around – or when JLR will start to more closely embrace electric propulsion. In the meantime, Jaguar Land Rover will continue investing in research and development. Since Tata acquired the brands from Ford seven years ago, JLR has quadrupled its R&D budget and doubled the number of engineers on staff. Related Video:
