THERE IS A HIDDEN SEDIMENT FILTER ON THESE LAND ROVERS THAT THE SPANISH DO NOT SEEM TO KNOW EXIST SO WE ALWAYS MAKE IT OUR FIRST JOB TO CLEAN THIS OUT, AND CHANGE DIESEL FILTER BEFORE IT HAS A VERY NICE PRESSURE WASH. WE TAKE THE SEATS OUT AND COVERS UNDER SEATS TO CLEAN CHASSIS AND GEARBOX AREA AND ONE CAN CHECK THE HAND BRAKE AREA AND PROPSHAFTS. AFTER THAT..SEATS BACK IN AND THESE PHOTOS FOR YOUR APPROVAL. IN ITS WORKING CLOTHES. TOTALLY ONE OWNER VEHICLE WITH MUCH SERVICE HISTORY AND CLEARLY A TIME WARP. AND TIME AGAIN TO LIVE IN THE STABLE BLOCK AGAIN..OH YES..YOU WOULD HAVE LOVED TO OWN THE OTHER VEHICLES IN THE STABLE BLOCK WHEN WE COLLECTED... THEN RECENTLY IT WAS DECIDED TO LET IT GO AND ITS HERE NOW. BEFORE COLLECTION. ITS LOVELY ORIGINAL OWNERS GAVE IT TO THE LOCAL ENGINEERS TO MAKE IT READY FOR ITS TRIP AS I ADVISED WE DONT COLLECT ON TRAILER BUT ALWAYS DRIVE THEM...HEY ITS THE ONLY FUN WE GET HEHEHEHEEHHE. SO, A NEW BRAKE SYSTEM WAS FITTED...AND WE MEAN..FROM BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER DOWN TO THE WHEELS, INCLUDING HOSES AND SEVERAL COPPER BRAKE PIPES...HOW DOES IT STOP...MODERN..A NICE SOFT SMOOTH PEDAL. AND VERY INTERESTINGLY THE CLUTCH PEDAL IS EQUALLY SMOOTH AND LIGHT IN OPERATION, WONDER WHAT BRAKE FLUID THEY USE..WE WANT SOME. A NEW BATTERY AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS CHANGED INCLUDING TYRES AND IT WAS READY TO GO. AND AFTER 1247 MILES ITS HERE.. WE INTEND TO GIVE IT A 240 POINT SERVICE AND CHECK BEFORE IT GOES TO NEW CUSTODIAN. We compare 2021 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport specifications to their ritzy Land Rover competiton
Tue, Jul 14 2020The 2021 Bronco and Bronco Sport are the spearheads for Ford's new 4x4 sub-brand, with the former taking the fight directly to the Jeep Wrangler and the latter providing Ford with a more rugged alternative to the Escape. We've already looked at how the new Bronco and Bronco Sport compare to their mainstream competition, but we'd like to see how the Bronco stacks up to another hotly anticipated returning nameplate: the Land Rover Defender. Not to leave its little sibling in the cold, I decided to browse Land Rover's lineup and see what might be a suitable counterpoint to the Bronco Sport. For better or worse, I found an almost-perfect fit in the Range Rover Evoque. So, how do these new American 4x4s compare to the Old Country's more-expensive alternatives? Let's dig in, starting with the big boys. As you might expect from the Bronco's robust credentials, it holds its own here against the more-expensive Brit. The Defender's higher price point brings along a good bit of power advantage with both engines, but that's to be expected. The Defender also has that trick adjustable-height suspension that the Bronco lacks, giving it an edge in practicality, and it can also tow quite a bit more. On the flip side, there are quite a few advantages to going with the Ford, including a greater number of choices in terms of powertrain. The available manual transmission on four-cylinder Broncos is a nice bonus, for instance, as is the option of getting either the base 2.3-liter or the optional 2.7-liter engine with either wheelbase. The Defender is a bit more restrictive in this regard offering only the inline-six on the short-wheelbase model. As an added bonus, the Bronco is a convertible. That may not necessarily be a "plus" for all shoppers, but it's certainly an added bit of versatility (and potential appeal) the Defender lacks. And of course, the Bronco can be had for as little as $30,000, whereas the Land Rover starts at $50,000. Now, on to the less-rugged siblings. The specs here are actually a little tighter in most respects, but the powertrain story is almost identical. The Evoque checks in where the Bronco Sport tops out, and the Range Rover gets an optional high-output variant of the 2.0-liter turbocharged four.

Not just 'our logo on a sail': Automakers gain technology from America's Cup
Wed, Jun 28 2017HAMILTON, Bermuda - From water taxis that "fly" on hydrofoils to aircraft wings and cutting-edge car steering wheels, the America's Cup has produced technology with potential far beyond its "foiling" catamarans. With their focus on carbon fiber and aerodynamics, the teams that fought for the America's Cup attracted partners including planemaker Airbus and automotive groups BMW and Land Rover, who were keen to learn from them. One area where this is likely to have an impact is in harnessing "foiling" technology, where the America's Cup boats "fly" above the water on foils, cutting water resistance. "Foiling in small electric boats will most likely appear on rivers in major cities. We are just at the beginning of the foiling adventure," Pierre Marie Belleau, head of Airbus Business Development, who managed its partnership with Larry Ellison's Oracle Team USA, told Reuters. The space-age catamarans used in the 35th America's Cup, which ended in victory for Emirates Team New Zealand this week, can sail at maximum speeds of 50 knots (57 mph) and have more in common with flying than sailing."CARBON FIBER RELATIONSHIP" For Jaguar Land Rover, which sponsored British sailor Ben Ainslie's attempt to win the cup, the relationship is a strategic one with a focus on technology and innovation. "We don't just get our logo onto a sail," Mark Cameron, JLR's Experiential Marketing Director, said by telephone, adding that the carmaker would be providing more designers to help Land Rover BAR with technology for their next campaign. "This is a dynamic sport that is developing fast. ... It's moving quickly just like the car industry is moving quickly. It's all changing," Land Rover produced a special steering wheel for Ainslie to use in the America's Cup, with in-built gear shift paddles that allowed him to adjust the catamaran's "flight" levels. The relationship is similar between BMW and Oracle Team USA, with the German automaker focused on areas including the electronics in the wheel used by skipper Jimmy Spithill, the development of carbon fiber used to make the boat and its components, and the aerodynamic testing. "We like to think of ourselves more as a partner than a sponsor. We have a very strong carbon fiber relationship," Ian Robertson, who is the BMW management board member responsible for sales and brand, told Reuters between races. "This is a dynamic sport that is developing fast. ... It's moving quickly just like the car industry is moving quickly.
