About me

Introduction: Victoria II

The Vehicle

When I bought this Defender to make it my project for the US market, it was already in a very good shape. The previous owner took real good care of her, which was clearly visible and that’s what convinced me to buy her. The paintwork was in good order, the interior was beautiful, the engine and gearbox running nicely. Lots of receipts came with her so I knew he wasn’t hesitating to invest in her.

I decided to rebuild the engine even though it was running excellent. I did it lots of times and it is way cheaper for me to do it and letting it be done in the US. So I can guarantee that this engine will run for miles and miles. I put a roof rack on her, cleaned and wax oiled the chassis and did lots of other things listed below to give the future buyer a good start on his Land Rover Experience:

Engine Maintenance

Timing belt, water pump and cooling system

Engine oil changed

New timing belt, tensioner and cover gasket

The Engine

The 3.5 V8 engine is a very reliable and easy to maintain engine. It was developed many years back so when installed in the Defender is was fully developed and popular engine. It isn’t the most powerful power source in the world, but it pulls good and takes you everywhere. We carried out a complete engine overhaul. All gaskets new, lubricants fresh, timing belt new, full length new exhaust and so on.

The Transmission

She has a 5 speed manual transmission. Both gearbox and transfer box work excellent. No weird noises, rattles or what so ever. Selecting gears goes smooth as it should. The Defender is permanently in 4 wheel drive. High/low gear and differential lock are present and work perfectly. The gear knob is below and next to the gearbox stick.

The Body

The aluminum body and paintwork are in a very good condition. It was been repainted five years ago. Of course you can see here and there that it isn’t new, some scratches and age marks. But for a 26 year old vehicle, it is really beautiful! The bulkhead and foot wells are clean and rust free. The doors are totally straight and have rust free bottoms, which is pretty unique. The windows work as they should, the same goes for all the locks. Please take care of the door hinges, they tend to rust if not regularly looked after. The windscreen has some wiper scratches on the passenger side. Note that this is a classic vehicle so there are marks of age, not many though!

The Defender has a tow bar with electrics. Also an air intake snorkel is mounted if you need to go through deep water. The heavy duty roof rack makes it look complete.

The Chassis

The complete chassis is in perfect condition. It is hard and strong as to expect from this Defender. It has been coated with a special impregnation substance that prevents rust and keeps it strong. The chassis number or VIN is clearly visible and authentic. The VIN is:

The Interior

The inside of the vehicle is clean, tidy and as good as new. The 9 seats are finished in black half leather. There is a multimedia device installed with LCD screen which pops out when switched on.

The tires

The Defender has got 4 good all terrain tires and a brand new spare. It’s to be advised that if you are going to use the truck only on normal roads, to put normal road tires on it. If going to be used primarily on dirt roads or off road, put off-roaders under it.

Service

It has just got a full service. All the oils and lubricants in the axles, gearbox, transfer box and so one have been replaced. The Defender’s power steering system is in excellent condition.

Customs, title and delivery

The vehicle passed all DOT, EPA and DMV test/inspections and is 100% USA legal. Furthermore, in contrast to a lot of Defenders for sale on eBay, this Defender is already in the USA, Maryland, and has cleared customs, meets all EPA & DOT regulations and is ready to be titled. All necessary paperwork will be included.

Where needed, we can assist with the titling as we have got the experience.

If preferred, for transportation you can make use of our reliable trucker. Send an email for quotes.

Deposit

We require a deposit of $500, - within 24 hours after the end of auction.

Recent Feedback:

Hi guys...

wanted to write you a brief note to compliment you on the quality of the LRD110 I purchased from you off EBay.  I have now used the truck for 6 months with trouble-free service.  I have had a few repairs done by two separate LRD specialists (one near each of my houses) both of whom have heavily praised the truck's condition given its age.  I have purchased two vehicles off of EBay - and I'm sure you guys know that it can be risky.  Thanks for being so diligent in finding this clean original specimen!  The experience has been "just what I wanted".

Best regards,

j.d.

(To verify, check my EBay feedback of August 16th 2013)

Land Rover Defender 110s, especially classic years like 1987, are rare finds.  To find one so well prepared and to work with a guy like Daniel van Oort who helped every step of the way and went way beyond our expectations even past delivery is AMAZING.    I had such a great experience with Daniel.  He kept me always informed of the process as our beautiful “Ms Red” made it through customs in Baltimore.  He coordinated everything perfectly.  As with all classic vehicles > 25 years old, there can always be subtle issues at first.  There were a few, like a small dent in the bumper which occurred somewhere in shipping to the US.  Daniel wasted no time negotiating these minor problems.  He just dropped a new bumper in the post at his cost and several other spare parts or small items after that.  Daniel knew I was a new LR owner and had much to learn.  He never hesitated to send me advice and support.   He quickly returned every email, was available from 1/2 way around the world when I was going through the tag & title process in Texas to make sure I had all the documentation.

I would completely recommend Daniel and his organization for future purchases and, in fact, I have been circulating his name among Land Rover clubs and social media that I participate in.  He’s a top notch seller and there’s nothing I would change about our experience.  My family and I have already created lots of great memories in our Land Rover Defender 110 and the candy-apple red color is a head turner!!  We always get lots of compliments from other Land Rover classic owners who really know their stuff.  They are also impressed with my experiences, the value and services I received from Daniel.

Thanks Daniel.  Many more memories to come and my wife now wants a Land Rover Defender of her own….so will be in touch soon.

Jaguar Land Rover and Cambridge have developed a touchless touchscreen

Thu, Jul 23 2020

Jaguar Land Rover and the University of Cambridge are working on new touchscreen technology that eliminates the need to touch the screen. Counterintuitive, right? It’s called “predictive touch” for now, in part because the system is able to predict what you might be aiming for on the screen.  The video at the top of this post is the best way to understand how users will interact with the tech, but weÂ’ll do some more explaining here. You simply reach out with your finger pointing toward the item on screen that you want to select. ItÂ’ll highlight the item and then select it. HereÂ’s how it works, according to the University of Cambridge: “The technology uses machine intelligence to determine the item the user intends to select on the screen early in the pointing task, speeding up the interaction. It uses a gesture tracker, including vision-based or radio frequency-based sensors, which are increasingly common in consumer electronics; contextual information such as user profile, interface design, environmental conditions; and data available from other sensors, such as an eye-gaze tracker, to infer the userÂ’s intent in real time.” Cambridge claims that lab tests showed a 50 percent reduction in both effort and time by the driver in using the screen, which would theoretically translate to more time looking at the road and less time jabbing away at the screen. If the prediction and machine learning tech is good enough, we could see this resulting in a reduced number of accidental inputs. However, on a certain level it almost sounds more difficult to point at a screen while moving than it does to actually touch a section of that screen. Without using the tech and its supposedly great predictive abilities, we canÂ’t come to any grand conclusions. One comparison you may already be thinking of is BMWÂ’s Gesture Controls. ItÂ’s already been addressed with a subtle diss from Cambridge: “Our technology has numerous advantages over more basic mid-air interaction techniques or conventional gesture recognition, because it supports intuitive interactions with legacy interface designs and doesnÂ’t require any learning on the part of the user,” said Dr Bashar Ahmad of the University of Cambridge. Of course, this tech can be used for much more than just vehicle touchscreen control. Cambridge says it could be integrated into ATMs, airport check-in kiosks, grocery store self checkouts and more.

Jaguar Land Rover invests $1.5B to build factory in Slovakia

Fri, Dec 11 2015

Jaguar Land Rover will invest 1 billion pounds ($1.5 billion at current rates) to build a new factory in Nitra, Slovakia. Construction will commence in 2016, and the site will have an initial capacity of 150,000 vehicles a year when the first of them roll out in late 2018. JLR expects to employ 2,800 people there. JLR won't yet say what vehicle it will build in Slovakia, other than it will be an all-new aluminum model. The 2018 timing for the plant's start of production seems to coincide with the launch of the radically different next-gen Land Rover Defender, though. Earlier reports suggested that JLR also considered locations in North America, particularly Georgia, and Europe for the new factory. However, the company signaled the Slovakia choice earlier this year when it signed a letter of intent with the government there in August. The automaker then did a final feasibility study before committing to the site. The new factory continues JLR's recent manufacturing expansion. The company opened an engine plant in the UK last year and a factory in China. There will also be one soon in Brazil, and it will reportedly bid to buy the Silverstone Circuit as a new headquarters. JAGUAR LAND ROVER CONFIRMS NEW FACTORY IN SLOVAKIA • New world-class premium manufacturing facility confirmed in Nitra • The next stage of the Company's plans for sustainable global growth • Today's announcement also supports long-term investment in the UK Bratislava, Slovakia – Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that it will be the first British carmaker to open a manufacturing facility in Slovakia. The announcement follows an agreement between the company and the Government of the Slovak Republic to build a new plant in the city of Nitra, western Slovakia. The new world-class GBP1 billion premium manufacturing facility will eventually employ around 2,800 people. Today's announcement follows Jaguar Land Rover's recent confirmation to double its investment in its engine plant in the UK to almost GBP1 billion – the largest injection into a new British manufacturing plant in decades creating several hundred new jobs. Dr Ralf Speth, Chief Executive Officer, Jaguar Land Rover commented, "Jaguar Land Rover is delighted today to welcome Slovakia into our family. The new factory will complement our existing facilities in the UK, China, India and Brazil and marks the next step in the company's strategy to become a truly global business.
