Welcome to an  auction for a 27 year old Defender 110 Tithonus.”   E Bay does not recognize foreign VIN numbers so this is why 1980 appears above.

This is possibly the best condition 1986 Land Rover you will ever see. It is completely different from the usual worn-out ex MOD  usually on sale.

This Defender was put into service with the British Army from new. I am the 2nd owner.

During approximately 2009/10 the vehicle went through the MOD's Project Tithonus you can find info on project tithonus on Wikipedia . Work included a comprehensive overhaul of only the best Defenders already owned by the MOD. All the others that didnt make the grade were sold off.

Project Tithonus was a cost-saving measure by the MOD. It had a requirement to only use vehicles that were up to current health and safety standards. Therefore instead of purchasing a new fleet of vehicles it chose to refurbish the best of the existing stock. This refurbishment, known as Project Tithonus was to make the vehicles fit for service and meet current health and safety standards for at least another 10 years.

The refurbishment this Defender went through included:

-complete bare metal respray of body and chassis

-fitting of new Wolf style composite hard top

-fitting full Wolf roll-cage

-new seatbelts front and rear

-new updated front exmoor trim seats

-new folding exmoor trim rear seats with seatbelts

-new rubber sound proofing matting front and rear

-new Wolf wheels

-new upgraded brakes  ..(Front disc brakes)

-new Michelin tires  7.50R16

-engine refurbishment 2.5Ltr  Diesel and 5 speed LT77 gearbox and transfer case

-chequer-plate to bonnet, hood and sills

After all of this work had been carried out some of the vehicles were sold off. This was due to down-sizing and a requirement for more armoured vehicles suitable for current deployments. Which is why this one became available.

It still has the original 2x SA80 rifle holders in the front and the radio/battery box in the rear.

It is in fantastic condition. There are NO typical-Land Rover dents

The chassis is absolutely pristine with no rust what so ever. It could be waxoyled to preserve it.

There is no bulk-head rot or footwell rot as can be found in much newer Defenders. It drives superb with no unusual clunks and bangs , no wines on the gearbox or axels and gearbox is smooth , engine fires up straight away.

Some of the military specifications of this that are different from standard specification are as follows:

-radio boxes and antennae mounts on the bonnet

-antennae mounting posts on both sides

-side cubby boxes

-rifle carriers in the front

-radio battery box in the rear

-radio cable-tray mounted on the roll-cage

-military rear bumpers

-towing eye in the front bumper

-NATO style rear tow-hitch

-shovel/tools mounting to the rear door

Wolf air vents to both front wings

Wolf/WMIK  carrier on bonnet

The usual Land Rover specifications for this Defender are as follows:

- Right Hand Drive

-permanent 4 wheel drive

-high and low ratio gear box

The odometer is showing 119,000 km, which is 71,000 miles. Extremely  low for the age. This is the original odometer so the millage is even less since the refurbishment in 2009.  It really has done no work at all.

Jaguar Land Rover to upgrade Castle Bromwich plant to build EVs

Fri, Jul 5 2019

LONDON — Jaguar Land Rover is making a multi-million pound investment to build electric vehicles in Britain, in a major boost for the UK government and a sector hit by the slump in diesel sales and Brexit uncertainty. Britain's biggest car company, which built 30 percent of the UK's 1.5 million cars last year, will make a range of electrified vehicles at its Castle Bromwich plant in central England, beginning with its luxury saloon, the XJ. "The future of mobility is electric and, as a visionary British company, we are committed to making our next generation of zero-emission vehicles in the UK," Chief Executive Ralf Speth said on Friday. The announcement gives a boost to Britain's automotive sector hit this year by Honda and Ford's plans to close factories. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has highlighted the dangers of a no-deal Brexit and the need to maintain frictionless trade with the European Union, echoing warnings from the industry that just-in-time production could be hit by customs delays and additional bureaucracy. But it has signed a deal with workers at the Castle Bromwich factory to go from a five-day to a four-day working week with the same amount of hours which should allow the plant to operate more efficiently. Three of JLR's four European car plants are in Britain, giving it limited capacity elsewhere on the continent. The other, in Slovakia, only opened last year and is still being ramped up with other models allocated there. "We are making this investment because the ongoing Brexit uncertainty has left us with no choice, we had to act, for our employees and our business," JLR said. "We are committed to the UK as our home and will fight to stay here but we need the right deal." Both candidates to replace Prime Minister Theresa May, Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt, have both said they are prepared to take Britain out of the EU on Oct. 31 without a deal, although it is not their preferred option. Brexiteers have argued that the EUÂ’s biggest economy Germany, which exports hundreds of thousands of cars to Britain ever year, would do its utmost to protect that trade Friday's announcement comes after a turbulent few months for Jaguar which announced around 4,500 job cuts earlier in January and posted a 3.66 billion pound ($4.5 billion) loss in 2018/19.

BMW X6 M said to lap the 'Ring in 8:20

Fri, Jul 17 2015

Bimmer Today reports that the German rag Auto Zeitung ran an Audi RS3 and a BMW X6 M around the Nurburgring together, and the hotted-up sports activity vehicle came in just five seconds behind the white-hot hatch. Driven by 'Ring regular Horst von Saurma, the RS3 ran its lap in 8 minutes, 15 seconds, and the X6 M ran an 8:20. If those times are accurate, that makes the X6 M the second fastest production SUV on the lap-time list according to Wikipedia: ahead of it is the 550-hp Range Rover Sport SVR, which ran a time of 8:14. That time puts BMW's 575-horsepower, 5,200-pound SUV four seconds ahead of the time registered by the last-gen, 555-hp X6 M, and well ahead of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S that Sport Auto clocked an 8:34 with. It would not, however, match the predictions that X6 M project manager Herbert Bayerl made for it in an interview with Sport Auto earlier this year. Bayerl said "The new BMW X6 M moves at the level of M3," speaking of the E92 BMW M3 that Sport Auto ran around the 'Ring in 8:05. It is, though, two seconds faster than the E46 M3, which lapped in 8:22. Bayerl called out the Range Rover Sport SVR directly, saying, "We have been traveling much faster in testing and have undercut the time of Range Rover several times," and "We don't need any special attachments to go faster." Auto Zeitung's report on the lap is only for subscribers so we'll have to wait for more official news. For the apples-to-apples comparison we'll be looking forward to Sport Auto's hot lap, then we'll know if the Range Rover has anything to fear. Related Video:

Jaguar Land Rover's latest tech makes roads safer for bikes [w/video]

Tue, Jan 20 2015

Safety in automobiles isn't just about protecting the occupants anymore. It's about protecting pedestrians who might be struck by an automobile, and as Jaguar Land Rover is demonstrating, it's about protecting cyclists as well. The latest experimental safety system from the British automaker is called Bike Sense, and it builds upon technologies the company has demonstrated recently, taking them a step further to make the road safer for those riding on two wheels. The system uses a combination of colors, sounds and vibrations to alert the driver of a potential hazard that might have otherwise gone unnoticed. Demonstrated on an XJ sedan, the system identifies nearby two-wheeled vehicles as pedal-powered or motorized, and alerts the driver accordingly. If a cycle is passing a the vehicle's blind spot, the top of the seat will vibrate to virtually "tap" the driver on the left or right shoulder, prompting him or her to look over that shoulder for the hazard. LEDs inside the cabin will then illuminate amber to red in the direction that the bike is passing. The system will even chime a bicycle bell or motorcycle horn as the two-wheeled vehicle approaches, and vibrate or stiffen the accelerator pedal if the driver keeps moving towards the obstacle. And if an occupant of the parked vehicle starts to open the door into the path of moving vehicle, it'll flash a light, sound an alarm and even vibrate the door handle to warn the occupant of the oncoming hazard. We could imagine the alerts getting a little distracting, but JLR says the system is designed to prioritize potential hazards when their are groups of pedestrians, bicyclists and/or motorcycle riders on a busy urban street. This is, of course, just the latest in a long string of new systems JLR has under development, following such technologies as the Transparent Bonnet, the Smart Assistant, the Virtual Windscreen for track sessions and the 360 Virtual Urban Windscreen for city driving.
