Looks very nice, but needs tome TLC."

This is my 1985 Land Rover Defender. The vin is SALLDVAD7AA242988. It has the 2.5 petrol (gas) engine and a 5 speed transmission. No power windows or locks unless you refer to your hands as the "power controls"! It runs and drives great! This is a right hand drive, not to be mistaken for a LHD. The vin matches all the specifics of this truck down to the engine and transmission. It shows 91,000 but I'm not 100% if it's not kilometers? I bought it from a gentleman who had it imported in August of 2012. He barely drove it or did anything to it, including cleaning it! So it hasn't been driven too much. I have always wanted one of these! I bought it to replace my daily driver which is a Jeep Cherokee, but after getting it here (in the Midwest), I'm not very comfortable with this and my two young boys. Not the right car and I'm sad for this. It would take some work to get it to that level and I don't have the time for such a project right now (I mean it could use some different tires and to make me feel safe a roll cage of some sort, kinda expensive for me at this time). So the wife said something has to go...

So I will try to list everything I can and know about this sweet rig. As far as I know the frame looks pretty solid and the rear crossmember looks as good as it could, I'd say if it's not a recent replacement then it's in very good shape, I've taken some good pictures of this from under the rear wheel arches so you can see for yourself. The whole frame looks to have been covered by waxy oil or some sort of undercoating at one time and looks to be flaking off in areas. If there are any areas you would like to see in particular that I haven't pictured, let me know and I'll try to get some to you. In general the rust situation on this truck looks to be great compared to many that I have seen or looked at! The gas gauge reads full all the time and according to the forums it means the sending unit in the tank is bad, I just fill it up every couple of weeks, and the speedometer is currently not working but I have a new cable that I will try to install in the next week or so,if I have time. The engine has a new carb on it and honestly this this runs great! I pops right off every time I drive it! Kind of reminds me of an old tractor how it sounds, very cool! The transmission shifts good too, weird on the right side but it's fun! Brakes stop great! It is equipped with disc on the front and rear drums. The all wheel drive system feel just as solid as everything else. The springs are taller than stock ones, but looks better to me like this. The shocks I believe could stand to be replaced as they feel a bit soft.

On to the body and paint. As you can see the truck looks presentable (due to a little elbow grease and loving touch) but unfortunately someone has resprayed this once before and it wasn't an expensive paint job. I was told by the previous owner that it wasn't repainted...right! I do however like the darker green and if I were able to keep it and restore it, this would be the color of my choice for this truck, it's really grown on me and if I could of, the checker plating would have been powder coated a gloss black or black chrome, I think it would have really set this truck off! I replaced the tub to top seals the other day, I was seeing daylight between the box and top and I also replaced the rear tailgate and hatch seal as well as the rear window seals (the little ones on the back of the truck). It has a rear tire carrier because it has the tailgate. Now this is what I think makes this truck so unique...the hatch! This thing is cool to me! All the others that I have been lucky to get near are soft top version with tailgates and cloth tops or the station wagon version with the big rear doors. Unfortunately the rear hatch window is a bit smaller than the big doors have in them but that's the price you pay to be different!

The seats look pretty solid, they're just vinyl. There is a CD player in the dash. It has the usual cubby box bolted to the floor between the seats. The heat blows good and gets warm, been pretty warm around here so not too sure how warm it will get?  It seems to function as it should. As far as the bulkhead (I have taken some pictures of this) the previous owner patched the drivers floor but not the worlds best welder and as far as the passenger side, it looks okay but starting to show rust, any skilled welder could patch these in.
I have tinted the rear windows on the top but not the drivers or passenger doors, this could be negotiated further after deal is made???

As far as leaks go the only thing I can see and tell that's leaking is the seal on the transfer case, again the previous owner said "no, it doesn't leak!".

I'm trying to describe this as good as I can and be as honest as I can, because I feel I was a bit misled and I don't like getting burnt either.

This thing is very cool and I'm always asked "what is that?". Most people refer to it as a "nice Jeep thing!" But none the less it's cool and people find it very cool and unique. That's why I like it, because it's unique! And I'm sad to see,it go:(   (sorry for the text sad face)

I did have a soft top on it this summer (ask for pictures if interested), but it's since been taken off due to winter coming and I felt the hardtop would fair better in the colder weather. I would be interested in selling this too but for an additional cost if interested. Up to the next owner? THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE PRICE OF THIS VEHCLE.

I feel that price of this is completely fair to a bargain, there are no other Defenders on here or anywhere that are this well priced. Feel free to make me an offer if you have a better price in mind but please be respectful. Unlike the conditions say, I will not accept any money orders and any pay pal payments are subject to a 3% fee added. I WILL ENTERTAIN ANY REASONABLE OFFERS!

As far as shipping goes, I WILL NOT ship this for you, you will need to arrange that. I can meet your shipper or assist in driving it to a shipper if near, but I will not ship it for you. That being said, I would not plan on driving this a long distance, not that I don't trust the engine, it's just not a highway cruiser. It feels like it need a sixth gear at about 55 mph! Unless your looking to tour the countryside at a blazing 55 mph?

I will also require a deposit of $500 at the buy it now ending. We can arrange the final payment and information once shipping arrangements are figured out and settled. Please no longer than 7-10 days if at all possible.

Please feel free to ask any questions you might have and I'll do my best to answer to the best of my ability and in a timely fashion.
Thanks!

Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations could build standalone models

Sun, Mar 8 2015

Jaguar Land Rover may be set to turn its Special Vehicle Operations division into something much bigger than a mere in-house tuner. Bloomberg spoke to the head of JLR's high-performance, customization outfit, John Edwards, who hinted that his team may move beyond simply modifying F-Types, Range Rovers and the like. "We're certainly looking at that, and we've got the capability to do that," Edwards told AN. "Is there an opportunity for us to do a completely standalone car? Maybe." Such a move into full-scale, standalone models would be a big step, particularly for a division that's still kind of in its infancy. Bloomberg references the success of Mercedes-AMG, but the German division has had the benefit of decades of growth. AMG spent years and years building high-performance versions of all manner of mainstream Mercedes vehicles, before moving onto cars like the SLS AMG and AMG GT, which have no mainstream analog. In other words, AMG had a long time to develop a reputation building high-performance vehicles that people know and recognize before it moved into building vehicles of its own. We aren't entirely convinced that SpecOps wouldn't benefit from taking a similar approach, delivering additional SVR vehicles, like the rumored XE SVR, before striking out on its own. We'd like to know what you think, though. Is it already time for Special Vehicle Operations to build standalone models, or should it learn to walk before it runs by modifying more of Jaguar Land Rover's existing product. Have your say in Comments. Related Video:

Jaguar Land Rover says key models in short supply, some have six-month wait lists

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

Care for a bit more proof that the Jaguar Land Rover portfolio of vehicles is the best it's ever been? Well, the Indian-owned pair of brands saw a record year in 2013, while 2014 has seen a 14-percent increase in sales. The crazy thing is, though, is that figure could be even higher, provided the company had the production capacity.
JLR is running a six-month waiting list on two of its most popular models, the Range Rover Sport (above) and Range Rover. According to Mark White, the company's chief technologist for body engineering, the blame can be placed on the paint shop at the company's Solihull factory, in the UK.
"We will probably max out the paint shop before we max out the body shop. Putting the second body shop in has given us the flexibility to ebb and flow the different models that go through there and meet the capacity demands we've got," White told Automotive News. "However, you always hit a bottleneck somewhere. And the paint shop is probably going to be the next biggest obstacle."

Jaguar Land Rover to cut $6.8 billion in costs

Tue, Nov 10 2015

Jaguar Land Rover reduce costs by $6.8 billion and will push annual production volume to 1 million vehicles under a secret project called Leap 4.5, according to Reuters. The British automaker wants to achieve these ambitious goals by the end of the decade to compensate for the changing market in China and to counteract the price of meeting stricter emissions standards around the world. Leap 4.5 won't mean firing workers or cutting the automaker's $4.5 billion annual research budget. JLR will instead find savings by underpinning more models with modular platforms and by adjusting its supply chain. Future factories like the one in Brazil and the proposed plant in Slovakia also won't be affected by the new strategy. Globally, JLR continues to grow, and deliveries are up two percent through October 2015 to 390,965 vehicles. Business just last month was up 24 percent year-over-year to 41,553 units. However, the auto market's downturn in China has taken a bite out the automaker's success because volume dropped there 32 percent in the third quarter, Reuters reported. A global volume of 1 million vehicles will mean more than doubling 2014's 462,678 deliveries, but JLR has made significant investments to boost production recently. In addition to the future factories, it opened its first plant in China last year and an engine assembly site in the UK. The company also signed a deal with Magna Steyr in 2015 to build an upcoming model in Austria. Related Video:
