First US customer gets the keys to $1.9 million Lamborghini Centenario
Fri, May 19 2017Ferruccio Lamborghini's 100th birthday party has now reached the United States. The Lamborghini Centenario – the souped-up Aventador that celebrates Lamborghini's founder – was delivered to its first US customer in Newport Beach, CA, the company said Thursday. The $1.9 million supercar was unveiled in 2016 to mark the 100th birthday of the industry leader, and it's limited to a 40-car run that's split between coupes and convertibles. Naturally, Lambo says they're all sold out. The first US car is a black and blue hardtop. The company says this one was custom built with a glossy carbon-fiber exterior. Inside, is the same color scheme set to leather and Alcantara. Lambo says the rest of the Centenario's US customers will get their cars this year. In case you've forgotten, the supercar runs a naturally aspirated V12 with 759 horsepower capable of hitting 62 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds en route to a top clip of 217 mph. Lambo builds each one to the personal tastes of the customer through its Ad Personam program. "When Ferruccio Lamborghini began realizing his dream of creating the best supercars in the world, he wanted to reach a large audience through production, but he also wanted to keep the unique nature of limited-edition vehicles that clients are able to personalize to their own tastes and style," Automobili Lamborghini America COO Alessandro Farmeschi said in a statement. Lamborghini has built more Huracans in 5 years than it did Gallardos in 10
Wed, Oct 16 2019Production numbers can be pointless without some sort of context that validates the information. For instance, 14,022 cars built in five years sounds like nothing, but when it's added that those 14,022 units are Lamborghini Huracans, it's more impressive. That specific number is significant because it matches the number of Lamborghini Gallardos produced during its 10-year run, even though the Huracan has only existed for 5 years. Lamborghini has been doing extremely well as of late. Year-over-year sales rose for the eighth consecutive year in 2018, and the Urus SUV is bringing in gobs of new customers. Reportedly, the company might even cap its production for 2020 at 8,000 units in order to maintain a certain level of exclusivity. At the core of the company's identity is the V10-powered Huracan. In the first half of 2019, the Huracan accounted for roughly 26 percent of the 4,553 cars sold, a number that represents a 96-percent increase compared to the same time period in 2018. Since it first debuted as a coupe for 2014, the Huracan line has expanded quite a bit with numerous different styles and performance levels. There's the rear-wheel drive model, the Performante, the EVO, and Spyder variants. The 14,022nd car built is a Huracan EVO coupe wearing a Grigio Titans paint scheme, and it's headed to a customer in Korea. There's no reason to believe Lamborghini demand will slow. The Urus has quickly become a cash-cow in a crossover-hungry market, and the possibility of an electric 2+2 as a fourth model could boost the brand even more.
Pope Francis gets a papal-themed Lamborghini Huracan
Wed, Nov 15 2017Lamborghini picked a special recipient for the newest and rarest version of its Huracan RWD, giving an ultra limited-edition version of the supercar to Pope Francis in a ceremony Wednesday at the Vatican attended by company executives. The new Popemobile, it's not. Fittingly, according to Catholic News Agency, it's the seventh version of the Huracan, the Italian company's entry-level model. It's set to be auctioned at RM Sotheby's on May 12, 2018, with orders from the Holy See to split the proceeds between three charitable causes: restoring villages on the Nineveh Plain in Iraq, helping victims of human trafficking and supporting missionary work in Africa. The papal Huracan RWD is done in Monocerus white with Tiberio yellow stripes running along the hood, roof and body, reflecting the colors of the flag of Vatican City. It was blessed and autographed by the pontiff in the presence of Lamborghini Chairman and CEO Stefano Domenicali, board members and two employees who helped build the car. The Huracan is the successor to the Gallardo, Lamborghini's best-selling model of all time, with a design inspired by the hexagonal form of the carbon atom. It's powered by a naturally aspirated, 5.2-liter V10 that makes 602 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque. Normally, the sports car starts $199,800. But a version blessed and autographed by the pope? Priceless...Related Video:
