Lego Lamborghini Sian is a life-size, 400,000-piece masterpiece
Tue, Jun 8 2021Three years ago, Lego took its model-building abilities to a new level with a life-size Bugatti Chiron model made entirely of Technic building pieces. Now the company has built another life-size supercar, this time, the Lamborghini Sian. This one went together faster and with fewer pieces, though the end result is just as impressive (and oddly, heavier). The total number of pieces used in this model was more than 400,000. And at the approximate price of 10 cents per piece, replicating the model would require around $40,000. Of course, you would need to obtain the 20 unique pieces designed specifically for this build. The other 134 piece designs are normal production Technic components. Alternatively, you could pick up the 1:8-scale kit Lego sells. It took a team of 15 people 8,660 hours to design and build the Lamborghini model. Of those, 3,290 were spent on the actual assembly. The final product weighs in at a whopping 4,850 pounds, or close to 1,000 pounds more than the real car. Lego also brought the model to Lamborghini to have the company give it a coat of paint. It's almost more impressive than the real thing. Almost. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Lamborghini Urus has an underwhelming exhaust note
Mon, Nov 27 2017Lamborghini has been releasing a number of teaser trailers for its upcoming Urus SUV, and the latest is all about trying to make the SUV really feel like a Lamborghini. The host at one point begins talking about giving the Urus the right sound, which culminates in a shot of a prototype accelerating away with all raucous roar of ... any other premium crossover on the market right now. Yes, the Lamborghini Urus sounds generic. Despite reportedly making 650 horsepower from its twin-turbo V8, the exhaust note sounds too quiet, smooth, and clean. It doesn't sound bad, but part of what makes a Lamborghini a Lamborghini is a stunning howl that you can hear blocks away. It shrieks at the high end, barks at the low end, and crackles in-between. Just take a listen to the Huracan in the video below. The Urus does none of that. Some may say this is actually a good thing because an SUV is supposed to be more practical and refined for daily use. But that's not what a Lamborghini is, even one that can carry more than two people. Lamborghinis are big, loud, impractical, and showy. And there's no shortage of fast, subtle SUVs out there, so the Lamborghini being brash is a key selling point. Still, this likely won't deter many prospective Urus buyers. It's still absurd-looking, featuring roughly the same creased and folded body work of the concept, and an interior full of spaceship-style switch gear. And as we already mentioned, it should be really fast. If only it sounded right. Related Video:
Valentino Balboni launches Lamborghini parts company
Tue, Aug 9 2016After 40 years of helping Lamborghini develop some of the greatest supercars on the road, former test driver Valentino Balboni is going back to work. Balboni recently unveiled his own company, aptly named VB, which will specialize in aftermarket components for Lamborghinis. VB's first matter of business is to give Lamborghini's most hardcore supercar a better sound. Set to launch at the Concorso Italiano during this year's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance week, VB's first aftermarket part is a titanium exhaust system for the Lamborghini Aventador LP-750 SV. The titanium exhaust system weighs in at 13.8 pounds and is a bolt-on part that uses OEM mounts. Each exhaust system takes over 350 hours to make and will be limited to a production run of 30 units. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Pricing for the exhaust system hasn't been announced, but drivers with the means to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for an Aventador SV should be able to afford some aftermarket goodies. Balboni has an extensive history with Lamborghini. After starting as a mechanic's apprentice, Balboni went on to become a test driver at Ferruccio Lamborghini's request. Before retiring in 2009, Balboni was said to have driven roughly 80 percent of the automaker's entire production. Lamborghini even named a supercar after him, the 2010 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, as a way of saying thank you. It looks like Balboni isn't done with Lamborghini, yet, and VB's titanium exhaust system for the Aventador SV should be an aural delight.
