Lamborghini's Revuelto enjoys new high-tech build processes

Wed, May 31 2023

Lamborghini exited the old age with a number of big bangs. The Aventador not only got an Ultimate special edition, but also a couple of one-offs with the Invencible and Autentica. The sold-out Huracan is rushing into the sunset in two directions, one on the road with the 60th Anniversary models, the other on the dirt with the sensational Sterrato. The brand with all the bull enters the new age with even more pop, attaching an electric motor to its hallmark V12, and remaking the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory that produces the hybrid V12 and the Revuelto two-door wrapped around it. In a video called "Building the Dream," various members of the Lamborghini family explain how the production process have improved so that everyone can ensure they're building a better car, better. A fair bit of the Manufattura Lamborghini story reminded us of Maserati's high-tec production overhaul at the Viale Ciro Menotti facility for the Nettuno V6 in the MC20. Computerized tools deliver repeatable build standards, the engine is built over a set of stations that include new seal testing and a final testing room, the transmission getting its own set of stations and build teams. There's also a sustainability story inside and outside, with new machines and software enabling more utilization of hides for interiors, CO2-neutral energy runs the plant, and not far away, there's a small forest with bee hives.   The most impressive bit might be the automaker saying the new setup increases the customization options. With Lamborghini building one-offs for clients, we didn't realize there was anything left to customize. The one line that stuck out to us was when Chief Manufacturing Officer Ranieri Niccoli said there's a new V12 assembly line "that in the future can accommodate different engines." That's called foreshadowing. While we wait to find out what that sentence could mean, grab some gelato and have a watch of the video above. Related Video This content is hosted by a third party. First US customer gets the keys to $1.9 million Lamborghini Centenario

Fri, May 19 2017

Ferruccio Lamborghini's 100th birthday party has now reached the United States. The Lamborghini Centenario – the souped-up Aventador that celebrates Lamborghini's founder – was delivered to its first US customer in Newport Beach, CA, the company said Thursday. The $1.9 million supercar was unveiled in 2016 to mark the 100th birthday of the industry leader, and it's limited to a 40-car run that's split between coupes and convertibles. Naturally, Lambo says they're all sold out. The first US car is a black and blue hardtop. The company says this one was custom built with a glossy carbon-fiber exterior. Inside, is the same color scheme set to leather and Alcantara. Lambo says the rest of the Centenario's US customers will get their cars this year. In case you've forgotten, the supercar runs a naturally aspirated V12 with 759 horsepower capable of hitting 62 miles per hour in 2.8 seconds en route to a top clip of 217 mph. Lambo builds each one to the personal tastes of the customer through its Ad Personam program. "When Ferruccio Lamborghini began realizing his dream of creating the best supercars in the world, he wanted to reach a large audience through production, but he also wanted to keep the unique nature of limited-edition vehicles that clients are able to personalize to their own tastes and style," Automobili Lamborghini America COO Alessandro Farmeschi said in a statement. Mansory unveils 1,600-hp Carbonado GT under a carbon fiber panda body

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

European tuners show up at the Geneva Motor Show in spades to display their very expensive wares in hopes of finding a handful of buyers. The only way to set your company apart is to make cars that are increasingly extreme. Mansory is no different, and to keep up with competitors it has brought the 1,600-horsepower Carbonado GT to Switzerland.
The GT starts life as a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, but practically every body panel is replaced with new carbon fiber pieces. It doesn't hide it either with the entire center portion of the car finished in clear-coated carbon. The biggest changes include fenders that are 1.6-inches wider at the front and 2.0-inches wider in the rear, and even the wheels have carbon inlays.
To make sure the Carbonado GT has the power to back up its hardcore looks, Mansory has fitted the Aventador's 6.5-liter V12 with two turbochargers to produce the aforementioned 1,600 hp and torque electronically limited to 855 pound-feet. The powertrain is upgraded to take the boost with pistons, connecting rods, rod bearings, crankshaft and cylinder head being replaced with high-performance units. Mansory claims the highly modified engine gets the GT to 62 miles per hour in 2.1 seconds and to a top speed of 230 mph.
