Listen to the Lamborghini Huracan successor's V8 rev to 10,000 rpm

Lamborghini is about to break a decades-long tradition: it confirmed that the Huracan's successor will be its first turbocharged super-sports car. The company released a short preview video that briefly shows the new car revving to over 10,000 rpm to reassure skeptical fans. The 55-second video takes you on a trip down memory lane. First, we see — and hear! — the Gallardo, which was sold between the 2004 and 2014 model years, going flat-out on a dyno. Next, it's the Huracan's turn to demonstrate what it's capable of; the video briefly shows a tachometer with a redline pegged at 8,500 rpm. Finally, it's the new car's turn, and it out-revs its predecessor by going over 10,000 rpm. While we can hear the new, twin-turbocharged V8 engine's exhaust note, we can also clearly hear the whine of an electric motor as the tach needle makes its way past the 10,000-rpm mark. That's because the model that will replace the Huracan will use a plug-in hybrid drivetrain. We'll need to be patient to learn the full specifications, but we already know that the 4.0-liter engine will develop about 800 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque on its own. The pistons are linked to a flat-plane crankshaft, so the V8 should sound a lot like a racing engine. The video hides the new car's styling, but earlier spy shots suggest it will remain characterized by a wedge-shaped silhouette. It's difficult to tell how the finer design details, such as the headlights, have evolved because the test mule spotted by our spies is covered by camouflage. The car could borrow a handful of styling cues from the Revuelto, which was unveiled in 2023 to replace the Aventador with a new V12. We won't have to wait long to find out more, as an earlier report claims Lamborghini will reveal the Huracan's successor during Monterey Car Week, which is right around the corner. When it lands, it will join the Revuelto and the updated Urus SE in Lamborghini's hybrid-only range.

Police find lion cub in Lamborghini on Champ-Elysses

Paris police found a lion cub inside a green Lamborghini last night. The Lamborghini and the cubs' reported owner were sitting near the Champs-Elysses when bystanders alerted the police of what they thought was a lion cub in a car. These people were right, because the police officers found the 33-year-old man in the Lamborghini taking selfies with the lion cub. According to reports, authorities took the driver into custody and gave the lion to the 30 Million Friends Foundation (animal rescue foundation). The Lamborghini didn't even belong to the lion owner — it was a rental, possibly explaining the lack of concern for the Lamborghini's leather-extensive interior (with the claws, and all). We still don't know which Lambo the lion was charioted (trafficked?) around in, but the Aventador would be our best guess. Although, one has to expect things like this from people who keep exotic animals as play things. France seems to have an ongoing problem with lions being kept as pets. This past month, a man was sentenced to six months in prison for attempting to sell a lion cub. The government is also currently investigating the presence of three other lion cubs in Paris suburbs. Needless to say, we here at Autoblog urge everyone to refrain from toting lion cubs around in cars, exotic supercars or otherwise. We also dissuade the transport of jaguars, pumas, tigers, ocelots and those tiny jungle cats in South America shown on Planet Earth that really just look like house cats. Lamborghini Huracan Sterrato prototype spied testing in the snow

Back in the summer of 2019, which seems like so much longer than two and a half years ago at this point, Lamborghini showed an interesting concept called the Huracan Sterrato. It was a lifted, widebody version of the mid-engine supercar, and its name literally translated to dirt. It was quite cool, and surprisingly grounded. And it must've been received well not just by us, but possibly customers, because these spy photos seem to indicate Lamborghini is working on a production model. There are a few indicators, but the most clear is the fact this test car has a noticeably taller ride height than its pavement-pounding predecessors. The concept, for reference, had an extra 1.85-inches of ground clearance. Furthermore, the prototype is sporting roof rails like those seen on the concept. Some other interesting additions that may or may not indicate plans for the production car include the skid plate up front, the additional lighting on the hood, and a new roof scoop up top. They're all clearly temporary additions, but the concept had bodywork that suggested some sort of skid plate, as well as auxiliary lighting. The roof scoop is a bit of a head-scratcher, though. We're not one to turn down a sweet mid-engine supercar scoop, but roof rails would seem to suggest carrying stuff on the roof, which would seem to directly block said scoop. On the other hand, that scoop could provide cleaner air when out in the dirt. Missing from the concept are the fat fender flares, but that's not too much of a surprise. We would expect the powertrain is basically the same as that of the Huracan Evo with a naturally aspirated V10 and all-wheel drive. It will probably have specific driving modes that adjust the traction and stability control systems for sporty, slippery driving conditions.
